Samsung Files for Virtual Screen Patent
Yesterday we (and half of the internet) reported on technology to enable mobile phones to project images against a flat surface. Now we learn that Samsung has applied to the US Patent Office this week for their Virtual Screen projection and character recognition input method for handsets! This is cool stuff!

"Samsung's idea is to have the handset project a virtual screen onto a flat surface, containing areas for character input and menu, toolbar, and scolling input via an electronic pen. The pen will then transfer its coordinates on the virtual screen wirelessly back to the handset, which in turn will use character recognition software to convert the input into text."

It will probably require more computing power and memory than available in mobile devices today. But it sure makes the old thumb-keyboard and jog wheel seem like old hat, huh? We live in exciting times!
