have tried to apply the update 3 times and each time it has failed.

I got through all the steps, making sure the modem is installed correctly (even removed the old modem, and installed from sctratch) backing up etc but when the update utility gets to the applying updates section, it gets 3/4 the ways through the applying update 1 dialog, with "Start supspend sleep" in the deatils sections and then I start getting "USB deivice not recognized messages" from my pc device manager and and the following message from the update "Warning: the time taken to apply the system update to your MPX220 has exceeded the expected limits". I can leave it here for hours and nothing further happens and I have to cancel the update.

Any ideas ?

Also, when I first start the update utility, it take about 5 minutes for it to start. Is this normal behavour ?

Shaun

I had a simular problem which happened, as it turns out, to be caused some how by my USB hub. When I plugged directly to a USB port the problem went away and I was able to update successfully.

I have .344 and I cannot update. I have other phones given to me from Microsoft that have version 1.22 and I cannot update those as well. What is the point of this update?

I had similar messages, and what got me was installing the modem with the Batter removed.

I don't know if that was your problem or not. Just making sure about the little things.

Those don't sound like Cingular ROM's. This update tool, to my knowledge, is only meant for Cingular MPX220's. I could be mistaken though.

Your are correct it is, it will only update phones with a Cingular ROM, if its an engineering unit or unbranded then you may not be able to update.
