SoftTrends LivePVR is an application that allows you to control all types of recordings on your Windows Mobile device including recording phone conversations right on the device. We contacted the developer about letting us take a look at their application for our readers to see if it performed as advertised. Interested? Read the full review.

If you like what you see then come back here and post a comment about your thoughts on the software for your chance at a free copy of LivePVR for your SmartPhone or Pocket PC device! Winners will be chosen at random from all entries on Wednesday November 8th. So get to posting!

I tried LivePVR for a short time when I first received my 3125 and it seemed to work well.

There were only a pair of features that I wish SoftTrends would add.

It would be great if you could define one of the telephone's buttons to start up the component of LivePVR you want. For example, you could define the VoiceTag button on the 3125 to start the Meeting component and begin recording.

Another feature I would like would be the ability to record into a compressed format - like Windows Media Audio. My Olympus DS-2200 does this and it works well - smaller file sizes.

For these reasons, I did not purchase LivePVR. That said, I'd still like to throw my name in the hat for the free copy. I liked the program and it would be nice to have a supplement to my DS-2200.

Ron.

Just downloaded the trial and will see how it goes, but conceptually it'll be quite handy. Have an old 2003 device around but can't seem to find out on their website if it's supported. Would be great to use it rather than carrying a separate digital recorder for meeting!

Cheers,
Steve

Ill download it and try it out.

For the people who already have....

can you set it to automatically record all phone conversations?
Is it possible to save these conversations to a memory card?
How much space do they take up?
What is the sound quality like on the playback?

yes

yes

How much space do they take up?
some sample recordings: 45sec=970k, 20sec=431k, 15sec=324k, 14sec=302k, 10sec=216k, 5sec=108k

What is the sound quality like on the playback?
176kbps bit rate, 8 bit, 2 channels (stereo), 11 kHz, PCM audio format

Recorded phone calls sound very good.
I haven't tried recording a meeting.
Voice recordings sound very good when recorded with my headset and vary when made without. Obviously, the closer your phone's microphone is to your mouth the better the sound quality (less airy-ness) of the recording.

I want to give special thanks to Jim Cleek of Mobilegadgetnews for his diligence and understanding in helping me validate my account here without whom I could not have entered ths contest! [ (IMG:http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ]

I've been recording conversations and meetings so that I can review them later to extract the exact things said for a while now. All too often I feel like I've attended conference calls twice, but I'm afraid my memory just isn't what it used to be.

I've gone to the web site, watched the demo, read over the features, and installed the demo onto my Pocket PC. I think it's an excellent product. I especially like the way it uses a buffer memory to record before the "record" button is hit. All too often, you cannot tell whether or not you should have recorded or ignored segments of a conversation until it's too late. I also really like the way that this product is integrated into OneNote so that instead of having to record the entire time, you can attach the important snippets thereby capturing the crucial aspects of what was said.

Thank you for this opportunity for entering me into the contest!

Sincerely,

Gene

I am trying out LivePVR and I have a question. When the application is set to record all calls does it record all calls made from the phone or all calls made from and received by the phone? I ask because it seems to record only calls made from the phone and calls received from other mobile phones. Calls received from land lines are not recorded. Is this the expected operation?

Mark

No, that is not what's expected. It records incoming landline conversations as well as mobile to mobile (incoming and outgoing).

That said...it worked fine on my device for awhile and now it's not working at all. The record buttons are screwy. Either I don't get the green button or all I can get is the green button. I end up with extremely short recordings or reaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllly long ones. Either way...not good.

I don't know what caused this. When I ad new programs I usually just concern myself with how the OS is responding and if my homescreen get's messed up. I don't go through and try every single program on my phone to see if there was a conflict. I hadn't used LivePVR in awhile (a couple weeks) and then when I went to use it it was messed up. I tried a few things but nothing worked (I deleted a recently added beta program and another new one I'd added).

I'd forgotten about it until your post. So, I just re-loaded LivePVR and it still isn't working.

Too bad, 'cuz it has some very nice features.
