I am sure some of you have read about the mysterious Cingular 3025 over on MSMobiles.com, and the various places it has been "reposted". Well I have been sitting on something for sometime now (not willingly but out of a respectful request from a source). My source after seeing all of these "rumors" has given me permission to post what "I" know about this subject.

Firstly, it is going to be the Cingular 3125 (reported Cingular 3120 non-camera version). Now I can not confirm nor deny that Cingular has already discontinued the 2125, but it wouldn't surprise me since that seems to be the trend to replace one smartphone with another instead of providing a variety.

Now I can confirm the "soon" part. My sources indicate from "rumors" that the projected release date for the Cingular 3125 will be the 12th of September (hey, that is right around the corner). Now there are no guarantees on that exact date, but that is a pretty good ballpark to start with. I would say that for those of you holding out for the Cingular version of the Star Trek (i-mate Smartflip, Qtek 8500, or Dopod s300) then you may want to keep holding off just a little bit longer. I did notice months ago when I got my wife a 2125, that the 3125 was already on the rebate list for Cingular. The original projected release was mid-August, but was pushed back for compatibility issues. Last I have heard, they are and have been "field" testing it now (for about a month). Now field testing means that people that "know" what they are doing have been using the phone as a personal, testing the in's and out's of it to see if they encounter any problems. If they do, this is what can cause delays. I will be sure to let everyone know what I can, as soon as I can. Oh yeah, the speculated pricing for this phone if you are a Cingular Premiere member will be around $199 with contract. I am not sure about the consumer market though, but I would expect something along the lines of a $300 price tag with a Mail in rebate to knock that down a bit, all of course with contract or extension (pure speculation on my part judging from recent trends in the phone industry).

This post is not meant to slander or discredit any other Windows Mobile sites out there, I am just simply trying to get the "facts" (everything is a rumor) straight at this point.

Wow, coming out so soon? I'll be VERY interested to see what this does for Windows Mobile here in the US. The past year has seen more Windows Mobile devices available in the US than ever before. It can only go up from here.

I've actually tried out the Qtek version of the Star Trek. Its nice! It actually has some weight to it, unlike the Cingular 2125 which feel like a cheap nokia phone. Unfortunately, the butt-hole was trying to sell it for $600. I was outraged but was not surprised given that this was the same guy that tried to sell the I-mate Jasjar for $1,200. I guess I shall wait 'til a little more for Cingular to drop the price.

By the way, what is a Cingular Premiere Customer and how do I become one?

If you have a job or email that will qualify you for the discounts. I was getting discounts for being a DoD employee (Marines), and then they automatically switched me to Premiere once I ordered a phone from the premiere site. I just had to enter my .mil email address while I was on deployment to be qualified and get the link to their site. Now when I dial 611 or access my stuff on the site, it notates and says welcome to business... There should be a link on their homepage where you can put your professional email addy to see if you qualify.

Oh! I know what it is. I just didn't know it was called that. Well, my hospital doesn't hook my up in that aspect. But we do get small discounts here and there. Thanks!

Cingular's online store is in code freeze for a few weeks, so if this phone does indeed launch near today, it won't show up online until around the end of the month. I suspect the launch date will be more like Oct 12.

Ouch, that would be harsh. I was hoping that there would be an official announcement today, possibly at CITA or something like that...
