So you have a brand new 8125 and your ready for tweaking....right? Well maybe not. You need to understand that modifying the Registry incorrectly can damage your 8125's operating system and cause it to become unstable or to stop working all together. Take note that if you really mess it up that only a hard reset will fix the problem, also understand that a hard reset will wipe the phone clean and DELETE ALL DATA ON THE PHONE, basically it resets the device back to the factory defaults. So, make sure you back up regularly.

With that in mind, on to the Registry edits:

MSIE 4.0 to MSIE 6.0

If you recieve an error while browsing the internet that says your browser is unsupported, perform this registry edit to get around that issue.

HKLM/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/ Windows/ Current Version/Internet Settings/5.0/User Agent

Version: MSIE 6.0

Change Left Softkey shortcut

Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 2

Change the Default data to the name of the app you want the softkey to open.

Change Open Data to the exact location of a program link.

Speed Up your Wizard Registry Edit

For those of you who wish your Wizard to be a little quicker here are some tips. Please note it will use a little more avaliable RAM but not much.

Speed up your Display (Faster opening programs/menus)
1)Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
Change the "limit" value :

2.1)4096 : this will slow down the display, but use less memory
2.2)8192 : this is the default value on Pocket PC, average memory/performances
2.3)16384 : this will speed up the display, but use more memory, twice the default Pocket PC value
2.4)32768 : Or even more
3)Reboot

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\Cac heSize=0x1000(4096)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\Ena bleCache=0x1(1)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize=0x1000(4096)

Edit to play ringtones from your storage card.

Ringtone location:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\Directory
Say you want to go from the default folder to your Ringtones folder on your Storage Card then it would look like the following:

From Windows\rings to \Storage Card\Ringtones

However sometimes the phone cannot read the file from the Storage Card quickly enough after it wakes up so it will play the default ringtone.

Enable 802.11g

The HTC Wizard has WIFI built-in, which in itself is wonderful. However, some manufacturers have decided not to enable 802.11g connectivity by default. More and more people own wireless network equipment based on the 802.11g standard and want to connect with their HTC Wizard.

A registry tweak that allows connecting to a 802.11g network has been found. Be aware that using this tweak will not give you a much faster wireless connection on your HTC Wizard, the hardware is simply not fast enough to cope with the theoretical speed of 54 Mb/s. However, the tweak will enable you to connect to 802.11g-only networks, which is a big advantage.

Please take a look at this topic on the XDA Developers Forum for more information. In this topic people discuss a .cab file that tweaks some more settings on your HTC Wizard than just the enabling of 802.11g, but I'll discuss those in a future post.

If you feel brave (don't worry), you can simply make the following changes in the registry:

* Use Total Commander to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
* Assign a value of 1 to dot11SupportedRateMask
* Assign a value of 8 to dot11SupportedRateMaskG
* Perform a soft reset

Increase Operating Speed

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\

* CacheSize from 0 to 4096
* EnableCache = 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt\
* ReplStoreCacheSize from 0 to 4096

Enable Keypad status indicator

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd

then create a DWORD value called EnableIndicator with value of 1

Wait about 2 minutes after the last registry edit before soft reseting to allow the changes to be written to the ROM.

More to be added to the list. Credit is due to the respective people who found these registry edits. I take no credit for them.
