Ah, my trouble yesterday...

I created a .wav file out of .wma I encoded off CD, cropped it a bit and sent to my MPx200.

I got dings too.

What I did then was I took that .wav file (which played by a bunch of audio players all along,) to Winamp, changed the output in Winamp to Nullsoft Disc Write or something to the effect and had Winamp create a new .wav file. Overwrote the .wav file on MPx200 and instead of dings I got a new ringtone.

Now, it's the way the .wav file was... created or written, something with bitrates and sampling,- I really didn't want to learn all this in detail, but you can try other things.

Bottomline,- I am pretty sure .wav file you have is simply isn't written out in the format which MPx200 can read and play.

hehe, ok for wm2003 you can also use wma files as ringtones, but if you want to convert to wav you need to convert it at 16bits 33khz which i find to be the best and most stable...

type 1 is where the tracks can be viewed separately. Type 0 combines all tracks into one, retaining the channel call-outs, even the same descriptive info, above, but just all crammed into the first track...

check this out for more help and link to a midi converter...

I have a couple questions if anyone is following this thread. I'm using WM2003 on an MPx200.

1. How small can you make the ringtones? When I convert and crop an mp3 to a wav at 16bits/32000hz it still is over 1MB big.

2. I can't find the custom ringtones unless I drop them in the Windows folder. Can people really see and select ringtones from elsewhere on the phone? Perhaps from the SD card? That would be great, but I can't figure out how to do it...at least not from Settings > Sounds >Ring tone.

3. Has anybody had luck using mp3's or wma's for ringtones?

4. Is there a good, free tool out there for cropping audio files? I've only been able to do it to wav's using Windows Sound Recorder. Works pretty well for wav's!

Thanks!

1. well basically theres two options, (1) the smaller you cut it the smaller the size will be so its really up to you. (2) making the formate of the wav at a lower quality like lowering it to 8bits 33hz, lower the format lower the file size so just play around with that.

2. should be able to select the custom ringtones anywhere on the phone. i usually have mine in a folder called Sounds on my SD card.

3. you can't use mp3's as ringtones, but you can use wma's though! and yes i've had luck using wma's as ringtones

4. audacity is pretty good, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

have fun =)

Thanks for the info! Are you running WM2003? Can you tell me the menu clicks you go through to select a custom ringtone?

When you say custom ringtones, are you refering to ringtones that you have made/downloaded to use as your primary ringtone. Or is intended to be assigned to a particular contact.

If you are trying to assign it to a particular contact then the file must be stored on the phone itself in Storage(IPSM on 2002)Application DataSounds.

If you just want to use it as a general ringtone then you can put it on the SD card, then goto Start > Settings > Sounds to select the tones you want for the ring and notifications. To assign a tone to a specific contact, then you need to open your contact list, edit the contact, scroll down to assign ringtone (? something like that), and you should be all set...

I use audacity to chop up an mp3 or wav.
Then export to mp3.
and convert to wma with Power MP3 WMA Converter.
You can find the hack for the full version on www.astalavista.box.sk

OK... I need some help... I have a wma file that will play just fine on my mpx200 (SP2003), but it will not show up as a customer ringtone for a contact. I have another file that's about the same size (80K), and in the same format (32Kbps, 16bit Stereo) that works just fine. I've attached the file. It was converted from a midi to a wav to a wma file. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Forgot to attach the file...

hi Paulk, if u want the WMAs to b set s ur ringtone, u can save ur ringtones under the windows folder...

However, if u wanna set it s the ringtone for each contact, u shd save it in Storage(IPSM)Application DataSounds... then select the ringtone for ur individual contact...

Hope tis helps...
