I don't know what you're talking about. All I did was plug the device in... I don't think it found the drivers automatically, so after going through the process, it let me choose a directory to install the drivers from. I picked c:\windows (the drivers should already come with Windows), and then Windows found all the drivers fine, and the phones works without a problem.

Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista has worked fine with my MPx200 with both WM2003 and WM5 installed.

WM Recorder 10 does work but as with any recoding software it takes up a lot of space when you record.

Are you even talking about the same software? WM Recorder 10? I'm talking about recording phone conversations with the software PMRecorder.

I found this software http://1800message.com/usepmr.aspx PMRecorder which supposedly allows you to record phone conversations in WM5. Has anyone tried this on their MPx200 with WM5? You can download it from http://1800message.com/default.aspx .

I can't get the ArcSoft MMS client to work with WM 5 on the MPx200. Whenever I try sending a message, it just freezes. Has anyone else tried this and got it to work? Thanks.

At first I thought... wow great... I love overclocking stuff... but then I thought... wow... what a waste of battery.

If some super smart person (like @nonymous, who released the WM2003 ROM) could get a hold of one of the MPx200's running WM5, they could probably rip the ROM from the phone and make it distributable. I'm almost certain this is how the MPx200 WM2003 ROM was made.

Considering the MPx220 has been out for almost a year already, a newer version of the phone might come out soon. Maybe not from Motorola, but from the MPx200/220's manufacturer CMCS under a different brand name (http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/3gsm_2005/index.php?p=d3). It's also possible that the MPx220 has been discontinued from Motorola considering they ended their partnership with CMCS and Cingular has stopped selling them and replaced them with the SMT5600 (http://www.digitimes.com/telecom/a20050415A5021.html).

Considering you bought a MPx300, money might not be that big of an issue for you, and I would suggest getting the MPx220. Otherwise, you might want to wait for future Windows Mobile smartphones with new features and Windows Mobile 5.

*#999# is a special code on the MPx200. For some reason in WM2003, #999# does it also. It's supposed to open the log file. The WM2003 version doesn't have a log file for some reason, therefore you get the error. I do not know of a way to actually do the carrier code #999#. If you want to check your balance using that method, you can downgrade to WM2002 or check it on t-zones. You could always of course check it the traditional way by calling 611.

That's barely a problem. You still need the license of the file to be able to do that. If someone really wanted to take the protected music and make a unprotected version, they could always take the output from the sound card and record it or use one of those programs that let you record outputted sound like the utility that comes with Creative sound cards.

I've never seen one specifically for the MPx200, but I don't think it would be too hard to make your own. Also, it probably wouldn't be worth it. The phone would likely charge way too slowly for it to be useful, unless you had some pretty expensive equipment.

I've flashed my phone to 2003 before, but before sending it back to Motorola under warranty, I've flashed it back to 2002. They replaced my phone without a problem. I've never tried AT&T though.

If you're having problems charging your phone, before taking apart your phone, I would first suggest you go into engineering mode by dialing * #**364# and pressing the middle blue key, and then going to Options > Layer 1B > Force Charge. Also, I would suggest sending your phone back to Motorola under warranty rather than taking it apart, as that would void your warranty.

If this really bothers you, you can send your phone back to Motorola under warranty, and they will fix it for you. When one of my friends had sent his MPx200 back to Motorola under warranty for something else, they fixed the broken SIM holder for him even though that wasn't what he was asking for. He didn't have his phone replaced either.

You can also customize the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Sounds/Clock/Script registry setting to change how the alarm works. For example, I have it vibrate with increasing alarm and have the alarm repeat until I turn it off. I changed it to "v3w3c50av0pw3c150r" I'd rather not have a separate application running in the background; wastes battery.

After a certain date, the FCC required all cell phone manufacturers to install GPS chips in phones to be able to be tracked by the carrier. What happens (at least in Ohio) is when you dial 911 from a cell phone, you are connected to that county's post of the State Patrol. The state Patrol will then route you to the correct dept. from the information you give them. Now if you are unable to give them any information, they can in turn call your carrier (which is displayed on the E911 terminal) and have you traced. The carrier will then give them you location and they will dispatch appropriate agencies.

As for this GPS chip, I believe the only company that is attempting to make money on the fact that thier phones can be tracked is Nextel (my dept. uses them). We have Nextel phones in our rigs and our supervisor can log in a web based software company (www.pathway.road.com) and see where our rigs are and how fast we are going...

Hope that helps...
I don't know where you came up with that information from, but as far as I've read on http://www.fcc.gov/911/enhanced/reports/ that information is incorrect. No company is required to use GPS for E911. AT&T Wireless, Cingular and T-Mobile are not using AGPS for E911 (nor do they have to). They are using a tower triangulation method which does not require handsets to have special AGPS equipment. All phones on these networks, including the MPx200 (and even including TDMA ones I think), are able to utilize the E911 services. I would assume that all carriers that use GSM in the US are using the same or similar method.

Yes, just flash back with the 2002 ROM file using the same process you did with 2003, but only with a 2002 ROM file. However, if you are using the AT&T WM2002 ROM, you cannot go back to the AT&T branded version.

toad, for some reason i can see web pages with my phone or will i be charged for data useage.
It may still be working in some markets. I don't think they'll charge you. Also, maybe your phone is reverting to CSD instead since it can't connect via GPRS. Read howardforums.com for more information.

OK, but why is it that when I had entered the Waptunnel settings correctly under my GPRS connections, it was working? This was no longer than a week or two ago. I am not trying to connect through t-zones, i dont even have t-zones on my phone... I bought an unlocked Mpx200 off ebay and just simply popped my t-mobile SIM and the phone service worked. Then after trying multiple times to set up waptunnel and crjt.net through GPRS, i got the settings right, and it worked flawlessly until i Hard Reset, then i could not remember the correct settings. When it was working, i viewed many websites, even real HTML websites, not just WAP pages, and i even downloaded a couple videos off eBaumsworld.com ... so obviously i can get it working again, i just need the right settings to enter into my phone using the info waptunnel gives me...

WAP gateway address: 207.232.99.109
Port: 9201

thanks,
jchx99
Yes, that's because T-Mobile stopped allowing users to connect to outside hosts (aka. stopped "free WAP") a few weeks ago (see howardforums.com). Also, you didn't even need to enter a 3rd party gateway before. Like I said, the MPx200 can bypass the gateway and can automatically go to those real HTML websites. You are entering the correct settings for waptunnel; it will not work.

Here.. I drew you a diagram which I hope helps explain it:
The different color arrows are different possible paths that could have been taken if you wanted to go to mpx200.org on your phone.

You cannot access 3rd party websites with the $4.99 t-zones plan anymore.
