Wow,

It has been years since I logged on and I am shocked to see this thread still going. I am very grateful for all of the kind words. I have since moved on from my trusty Mpx200, then to a 220 and now on a GSM Q9. I never had this problem with the 220, but I did have to resolder the connector a couple times, so I can not confirm or deny that this same procedure will work on the 220. I think the 200 and the 220 were made by the same company, so it is very likely. Engineers like to resuse as much as possible. Hopefully I will not have to see if the Q is the same.

I never tried the WM5 upgrade, so I can not comment on that. The easy way to tell if it is the fuse is if the unit will charge when turned off. It is my feeling that when the phone is off, it does not use any of the firmware/software, so if it will not charge when the unit is turned off it is most likely a bad fuse.

I actually did this with a non-stereo headset and left the mic on. The audio output is connected into an AUX input on my car stereo. It works as a pretty good speakerphone. The only problem I have is that if I plug in the charger at the same time, I get a good deal of ground loop noise through the stereo.

QUOTE (mkestu @ Jan 12 2006, 11:20 PM)
Here's the diagram.

It makes for a great speaker phone though car stereo, but no mic. Next time I do it I will leave the mic on the cord.

Can't seem to post attachment...any suggestions?

I have 2 MPx220s...(the older one I dropped and cracked the housing, but it still works for testing) I loaded 1.49 on it and tried to sync and the same thing happens.  I've un and re installed activesync, both 3.8 and 4.0 and same thing happens - No support for Inbox Sync.

I'm beginning to think 1.49 doesn't support it.
*

Well, for you I went ahead and tried it ;-)

It synced a portion of my inbox, about 50 messages. The problem I have is that I could not open the settings for the Inbox before syncing it - so it started to sync with the default settings. Now that the inbox shows up on the Activesync list, I can right click and adjust the settings.

So it does work with 1.49 and AS 4.0.

Menus are faster...

However, has anyone else had a problem getting Mail Folders to sync with specified MS Outlook mail folders after upgrading to 1.49?

Now, when Activesync comes up, it doesn't even list mail as one of the information types to be synchronized.  This happens under both Activesync versions: 3.8 and the new 4.0.

Anyone got any ideas?
*

I would try uninstalling Activesync and then reinstall. I am running the 1.49 ROM and while I do not sync the Outlook Inbox, I do have the option to. I am running the 4.0 version of Activesync if that matters. The only thing I have is that when I tried to go into the setting of Inbox, nothing happened. I do not really want to try to sync my inbox as I have WAY too many emails in there. Hope this helps...

Somewhat related reply ;-)

Have any of you had a SanDisk card just stop working? I have a 512 MB miniSD card that just stopped working. I have tried it in several phones, a PDA and a PC card reader. The phones and the PC just don't recognize that anything has been inserted. The PDA would freeze up when ever I inserted it. Because of this I can not even try to reformat or recover any of the data.

Any comments/thoughts?

Can someone point me to a guide to creating/editing the xml for homescreens? I have looked a bit for this and have not come up with anything. Or if someone knows how to get an indication of the number of voicemails on the homescreen, that is really what I am looking for. I have seen many homescreens that give email/sms/mms. Since I never use MMS, I would like to replace this with voicemail. I can see where this is called out in the xml, just do not know what to replace it with. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Change the value to 64 or 96 whichever give you the best performance.

This will increase the affectiveness of how Windows uses and manages memory of open programs.

Can you eleborate a little on what this setting does? I am just curious. I have been having some memory issues with trying to load animated gifs in PIE. If too much memory is in use, the image just will not load. If I use XBar to kill other applications to free up some memory the image loads fine. Just wondering if this setting will help my situation and curious as to what it does.

I have never played with the SMT, so I can only comment on my experience with the MPx220. I personally much prefer flip style phones versus the candy bar style. This is a big deal to me and why I went with the MPx220. I just got my phone new about a month ago and it came preloaded with the latest ROM, so I also can not comment on how things have changed from ROM to ROM, but here goes...

-Earpiece volume - It could be a little louder, but I do not have a problem with it at all. It seems clear and plenty loud enough for me to hear.

-Ringer volume - Could definately be louder. I have missed a couple of calls because I did not hear the ringer through my pocket.

-Camera quality - While it is not the best, I have been happy with it. I just keep in mind that it is a phone first, with camera added on. I like the fact that if you close the flip while the camera is on, the external display shows the image. Really good for those self portrait moments. ;-)

-Speed/stability - My last phone was the MPx200 running 2k3. The 220 is much faster and much more stable. With my old MPx200 I had to power cycle it daily as things would lock up. The 220 seems to be much more stable and capable of running the applications I use.

-Quality - As I stated mine is a new phone, so I do not know if they have improved anything. My phone seems solid. The battery door has never fallen off and the flip hinge seems just as solid as the MPx200. Also the screen is VERY bright, much brighter and clearer than my 200.

The biggest issue I have is that there are a few applications out there that will not run on the MPx220, such as CellTrack. I really think this is a cool application that I am hoping one day will be ported to the MPx220.

I found a work-around.

Go to www.msn.com on your MPx220. Towards the bottom of the page is the passport sign-in. Be sure to check the "Remember Name and Password".

Now if you go to the mobile site, the icons still will not load, but you will be logged in. So at least you will not have to enter your name and password over and over again.

Hope this works for you, it did for me.

I tried doing this but was unsuccessfull, maybe one of you knows how to do this...

Is it possible to copy a cookie from your desktop PC to the mobile? If so then you may be able to bypass the need to log in all together.

hylton-

I am also seeing the same thing as you on my MPx220 with Cingular. I had never tried the MSN mobile site before, so this was the first time I noticed it. If you find a solution let us know please. If I find a solution I will post it here.

Strange that all the other icons load just fine, ie MSN Hotmail, WindowsMedia.com, etc. I get two red X's with a blank link between the two, clicking on either of these just seems to refresh the page. All other icons below this point load just fine.

Is there an engineering mode on the SMT? With my MPx220 I can simply enter engineering mode and get all of the information you mention and MUCH more.

I am using a MPx220, but I would think that this would be similiar. I use Agile Messenger with Cingular just fine. What data plan are you signed up on? I am on the Unlimited MediaNet package and have been quite pleased with the performance compared to when i was on T-Mobile.

Can you access the web?

How do I get into Engineering Mode?

You can enter "Engineering Mode" by entering *#**364# and hitting send. BE VERY CAREFUL with this mode as I know of one member who messed up thier MPx200 by changing some of the settings in engineering mode. You do this at your own risk!!! As long as you do not change any setting and only view the information there should be little risk of any harm.

I do not know if this has been discussed before, but here goes. I just got a new MPx220 about 2 weeks ago and I am not having any of the major issues that I keep hearing about, shutting off, won't charge right, etc. I've heard that some of these issues are fixed with the latest ROM, which mine came with. I typically am not just lucky so I am wondering if Motorola has up-revisioned the hardware as well. I started poking around with the Engineering mode on my phone and looked at the Versions where I get the following...

Build time: May 9 2005 18:14:32
OEM Ver: 1.430.0.0000
Language Ver: 0.210.0.0000

Radio:
SWVer=1.180
Date: May 9 2005

I know many of you that had bad phones no longer have them, but it might be interesting to find out if your hardware is a different version. It would be nice to think that Motorola fixed the issues in any of the newer phones they are shipping.

That is the same as bridging over the fuse, so yes you can. I recommend finding a replacement fuse, but this works as well - just be sure to use a fused charger then. Same disclaimers apply as I put in the original post wink.gif .

On a side note, thanks for all of the kind words. It is nice to hear that the information I provided is being used and appreciated. I have finally replaced my MPx200 with a MPx220, so I do not always browse this forum. I repaired my phone back in November of last year and it is still working, just wanted a new one rolleyes.gif . If you need any additional guidance/help, fire me off a personal message and I will see what I can do.

Check out this website. Phone Labs

This product lets you connect your cellphone to your home phone wiring, allowing you to make and receive calls through your cellphone on any phone in your home.

Pretty cool, but it cost $150+!

Now to figure out why the images do not resize properly in Pocket Internet Explorer....

Well, I just made this exact upgrade and two weeks into it I am still very happy with the switch. I also switched carriers from T-Mobile to Cingular, which in my area is a huge improvement in coverage. I have the unlimited MediaNet package and have been happy with the speed of the network - not sure if it is the phone or the network or both, but it definately seems faster than my MPx200 on T-mobile. I have the latest Cingular ROM installed and the earpeice volume seems adequate - it could be louder though. The camera is ok, fine for what I expect out of a phone. Bluetooth is really nice for wireless activesync. I have found a couple little quirks that I mentioned in a different post, but overall I like this phone.

Ok, I just upgraded to a MPx220 from my old 200. My first opinion is that I love this new phone. In the process I switched from T-Mobile to Cingular as well, which so far has also been a good change - much better coverage at work and at home. Here are the few minor headaches I am having...

- This is a Cingular branded phone. It will not let me rearrange the Start menu. It seems like the files are marked read-only and I can not change/move them through Activesync Explorer. I just want to create a few new folders and move the icons so I do not have to scroll through so many pages. Anyone know how to change this?

-I had the 2k3 image on my MPx200, so on PIE I was used to the Single Column/Standard/Desktop layout modes available. For some reason on this phone changing to Desktop mode does not work the same. Some images do not resize while other explode so big they are unreadable. I like using this mode for weather radar on Accuweather. I am thinking there is some registry edit, but just wondering if anyone else has this same problem.

On the plus side I am enjoying much better battery life, much better signal coverage, much better speed/responsiveness and it is more stable than my old MPx200 on the 2k3 image. In two weeks of having it I have only had it lock up on me once where I needed to pull the battery to soft reset it.

If you have any insights to the above issues I would appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks,

For the average user - absolutely nothing. The engineering mode lets you view what frequency/channel you are on and the neighboring cell sites, your signal stregnth, etc. Though becarefull as I remember Gryp0n playing around with the engineering mode and he changed some setting and it screwed up the phone.
