PDAmill is not new to the Windows Mobile platform. They have many titles available for Pocket PC and even the Palm OS. They also have a current list of seven games for the SmartPhone:

Aqua Blocks
Blocks Plus
Cannons
Fireball
Jewel Master
Snake
Snails

All of the games except Snails are available for $2.95 each. Snails is only slightly more, at $9.95. These prices are very reasonable for games if the gameplay is good. So is Snake worth $2.95? Is the game experience intense enough to warrant you parting with such a sum? Read on.

This is what PDAmill says about Snake:
Snake

Jimmy the Snake is hungry, and its feeding time! There is only one problem, once Jimmy starts eating, he can't stop! He'll eat anything that gets in his way, including himself!

Compatibility: Motorola MPX-200, Orange Motorola MPx200, Orange SPV E200, Qtek 7070, Samsung i600, iMate Smartphones, Mio DigiWalker

Requirements: 500k of Storage, 2 MB of RAM

Like the other PDAmill Smartphone games, Snake starts out with a splash screen that is really stunning in its detail and quality. It just looks good. And it is an indication of how the game looks.

When the game starts you will most likely recognize it. You may think this is just like every other snake game. You would think wrong.

The thing that seperates this Snake game from every other is the objective and the way the targets come up. At the beginning of the round you are told what you must collect. 5 apples, 3 tomatoes, or 4 pieces of fruit. Whatever the objective is, it won't be easy. As the round progresses, items pop up on the ground. If it is an object you are supposed to collect, navigate the snake to it and eat it. If it isn't, you can eat it anyway. Every item you eat causes the snake to get longer, making it harder to manuver him. If he hits a wall or his own body he dies. So the fewer items you eat in trying to accomplish the objective the better off you will be.

The maps are very different. They may be wide open like the image above, or broken up with small connectors to allow the snake to manuver between areas. For example, one of the early rounds has two green grass areas on the left and right, seperated by a river in the middle. Connecting the two is a small wooden bridge. Keep the snake on the grass or bridge and everything is ok. Put him in the water and you start over again.

The game is very challenging, even with the first round. Picking out only the things you are supposed to eat is difficult. Eating the wrong things makes it more difficult to manuver. Add on top of that complex levels and you have a game which leads to frustration that you can't walk away from. It is a welcome change to the standard snake game and worth your time and the $2.95 PDAmill is charging for the game.
