I just got set up to sync over the air on our exchange server @ work and all of my personal contacts, appointments etc... are now on my work PC, not cool.

What happened to the Sync categories in ActiveSync-Options? I used to be able to control which Outlook items were sychronized via ActiveSync by assigning categories. The new version(s) of ActiveSync don't have those options 4.2 or 4.5 beta. I have a copy of AS 3.8, anyone know if that will talk to WM 5.0?

Goal:
Phone - has Personal and Business items
Work PC - has Business items only
Home PC - ideally Personal items only, but I could live with the Business items there.

I need some ideas....thanks

Unfortunately they seem to have removed the catagories with AS 4. I can't think of any way to do what you're wanting to, sorry.

I haven't found a way to filter sync items with the exchange server, and I am pretty sure there isn't a way. Hopefully this is something that MS will address in the future for situations like these, where someone may want to use the phone for both business and personal wink.gif. I can tell you that you need at least AS 4 or higher for use with WM5.

This works for an exchange server account, I did this on my PC @ work.

In Outlook Navigation Pane, right click on the folder you want to filter (calendar, tasks, contacts, etc...)
Select Properties from the menu
Click on Synchronization Tab
Click filter
Click more choices
Select the categories you want to allow to synch
OK
Click Tools -> Send/Receive

TaDaaa! Filtered by Categories.

It is a little counter intuitive, you select the categories that you want to synchronize not filter.
To allow synchronization of only items in the "Business" category, you select Business.

Here's a link to Microsoft Office Assistance, where I found the solution.

Enjoy...

Nice, I wonder why it is more hidden these days.

They must have had a problem in this version of AS. There is no way to accomplish this (that I can find) when Sync-ing just with a PC. I believe this method is really a function of Outlook (via Exchange Server).
