I've tried a few wired headsets on my mpx220 and so far, the mpx220 doesn't respond to the call answer/hangup button. Is it even possible?

ok: I do see the HS120 (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/5052.htm), which is a stereo earphone for the mpx220 with a call answer button. But I need to be able to use my own earphones since I need the type that blocks out external noise. Otherwise, I would have to kill my ears with the high volume and still have the audio muffled by all the outside noise.

Ideally, I'm looking for a headset that has a 2.5mm male plug (to connect to the phone), a working call button, a mic, and a 3.5mm female jack to support any standard 3.5mm headphone. Does such a beast exist for the mpx220?

Thanks!

The issue with the 220 is it requires a specific stereo adapter. Plainly said, standard 2.5mm stereo headsets will not play in stereo on the 220 that work on other phones. I've used both a 220 and am now using an i-mate. The stereo headset that works on my 220 doesn't work on the i-mate and the stereo headset that works on my i-mate does not work on my 220...even though they both look like they have the same 4-pole male plugs.

So, be careful if you order a headset and shipping charges are involved that might not be refundable.

I read your "ideally" wish list. How about an all-in-one headset that matches your needs (instead of a splitter - which is what it sounds like you've asked for)? I can VERY highly recommend the Sennheiser MM50 stereo ear-canal (isolater) style headset for your 220. The answer button works and the sound is terrific (yes, Virginia, there is bass coming from my phone's music player biggrin.gif ).

I am soooooooooooo bummed they don't make the same headset for my i-mate. I have not yet been able to get a good stereo headset for my i-mate and I really miss using my Senns.

Check this link:
http://www.hs.sennheisercommunications.com/
Choose the middle "red" panel called 'mobile phones', then Motorola as the manufacturer, then MPx220 as the model. Leave "show all" selected and you'll see the MM50 and a few other options as well. They make an MM10 option if someone doesn't want the ear-canal type but prefers the standard ear-bud type. They also have MM30 which is a behind the neck/over the ear type if that's your cup o'tea.

If that's what you're looking for then do a Google search for "Sennheiser mm50" and you should get some good results on where to buy them. BE CAREFUL though, 'cuz the same model number is used for the headset that is for Sony-Ericsson phones for example. Make sure you're ordering the Motorola version. I don't know enough to know if they are actually the same headset. I'd have to call and ask if the Sony-Ericsson set also works with the 220.

I paid $35 for my headset awhile ago. I notice they are a bit more expensive now. A very quick search turned up prices between $39-$50

Good luck!

Thanks for the great suggestion of the MM50. I thought I found what I wanted on ebay with an adapter that includes a mic and a call button, but when I got it, everything worked EXCEPT the call button. Darn! So I ended up getting the MM50 and everything works. I got it from a local shop for about $50 since online, it's so confusing since most site advertise it as being for Sony Ericsson phone even though the actual box only lists Motorola phone.

It's funny, but these are the most expensive earphones I have ever purchased since I've always had some set of earphone (good or bad) around if I needed some. I compared the MM50 with a pair of regular sony earphones through the ebay adapter and the MM50 blows it away.

Now I would want to extend my 'investment'. I guess it would be too much to ask for this headset to work in non-motorola phones. I wonder if there is some sort of adapter. But my most immediate want is to allow me to use the headset with regular 3.5mm devices such as an iPod. I went to Radioshack and got an adapter has 2.5mm female 3.5mm male connectors, but I get really loud audio on the Right channel and very faint or zero audio on the left. Ug. Is there a working adapter to do this? I'm not even sure of the pinout of the headset. I've seen the pinout for the MPX200, but I don't think the MPX220 has the same pinout.

Thanks!

Glad you like the MM50s. Me tooooooooooo. I soooooooooo miss using them. I haven't found anyway to use them with other devices. Sorry, I can't help there.

I paid $35-ish for the MM50s and thought that was a lot. BUT, since I haven't been able to find any stereo 2-in-1 for my current phone, in desperation I paid almost $60 for a Seidio headset that "looked" like the MM50 but works with my phone (as well as MDA, Treo etc.) and they come NOWHERE even close to the sound quality of the MM50s. I am soooooooooooo disappointed.

Post back if you find a solution for using the MM50s with other devices.

I've got good news...and, bad news.

Good news...I've got an adapter that allows the MM50 to be used with other devices. smile.gif
Bad news...I don't know where to tell you to get one like it. sad.gif

I think I have the same Radio Shack adapter that you refer to and, just like you said, it doesn't work because the music is not in stereo. The other adapter I have that works came with something else I bought...and I can't remember what that was. I was just going through the drawer trying to find my Radio Shack adapter to see if I got the same results you got and I came across the mystery adapter. I have a vague memory of it coming packaged with something else, but I've been searching my memory and haven't come up with what it was. Sorry.

If I was forced to say something...I'd say it came with another set of headphones designed for cellular use...possibly Body Glove or Jabra OR a cigarette lighter adapter doohickey for playing MP3s through your car stereo that was given to me (but I know it came from Target). I'm leaning toward the MP3 thing. If I get a chance in the next couple days, I'll swing by a Target and see if that's the thing it came with.

It looks a lot like this: http://www.electronicsoutfitter.com/images...s43cseb_std.jpg
That's not it...but it looks very similar.

Both ends 'look' identical to the Radio Shack one except that the male prong is gold. But, the black rings look the same etc. Other than the business ends looking the same, the whole adapter is totally different looking. It's that neutral computer beige color and is about three inches long with the middle part looking like cord. The Radio Shack adapter I have is just a black plug and is about an inch and a half long.

All the things I've thought of that it might have come with are not inexpensive. But, if I were you, and I knew what it came with, I'd contact the company and ask for a replacement of just that part which SHOULD be more reasonably priced.

If nothing else...be encouraged that there IS something out there that will do what you want to do...if, you can find it. laugh.gif dry.gif wink.gif

So the adapter you found has a 3.5mm male connector on one end (for something like an iPod) and a 2.5mm female connector on the other end (for the MM50)? It's almost impossible to find any adapters that has a 2.5mm female connector, let alone one that has four circuits (three black rings).

If you get more clues on where your working adapter came from, that would be great. I was thinking that I would need to build this adapter myself, assuming I can find the right parts, but I'm not exactly mister radioshack... so I'm hoping my MPX220 has a long and happy life (and that I'm not too tempted by all these new devices).

runningtiger, could you have bought this in the past:

Body Glove Earglove Sport Stereo Headset
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1118845619352

I was browsing bestbuy and saw the Body Glove Earglove Sport Stereo Headset, which has a four-circuit 2.5mm plug. What caught my eye is that it advertises as the ONLY headset that is compatible with both mp3 cellphones and mp3 players by including an adapter like the one you mentioned that allows the headset to work in 3.5mm jack devices. It has stereo earplugs, a call answer button, and three different color ear loops.

No idea if it'll work with the MM50, but if you had bought it in the past, then it would most likely be the source of your mysterious adapter.

Bestbuy had it for $37 but I see it online for under $20.

Seems pricey if I just want the adapter... but at least I know it exists.

Yes. The mystery adapter does have a 3.5mm male end with two black rings and a 2.5mm female end that fits my MM50. When I plug my Senns into the adapter and then into my computer it allows stereo output which sounds great. If I pair this adapter with the RS adapter (2.5mm male w/2 black rings and 3.5mm female) I can plug it into my i-mate and listen to it in perfect stereo. blink.gif I loath adapters and this setup looks like my worst nightmare! laugh.gif But, it works. And, I'm surprised it works since the Radio Shack adapter going into my phone does not have 3 black rings on it. Nothing does! I'm totally confused, but sitting here listening to my music in great sounding stereo...much better than any other headset I've tried with my i-mate.

Regarding the Body Glove headset...yes. It's very possible that's it. I haven't made it over to Target yet to see if the adapter I have came with the FM transmitter thing. But, when I get the chance I'll swing by Best Buy and see if it came with that headset.

If it is in that package, like I said before, I'd contact them and find out if you can just buy the adapter. I've had good luck doing this with more than one company. It might save you enough money to be worthwhile. I'll post back as soon as I get a chance to check out Best Buy.

I can't remember if I tried that Body Glove headset with my MPx220 or my i-mate. Whichever one it was (I'm leaning towards the 220) it did not work in stereo.

The adapter is indeed the one included with the Body Glove headset. I hope they'll sell you a "replacement" wink.gif BadBob (without having to buy the entire headset). Good luck!

I haven't tried it with an iPod 'cuz I don't have one. I tried it with my laptop and it allowed me to use my Senns (bought specifically for Motorola MPx220 - and doesn't work with most other phones) to listen to the audio output in wonderful stereo.

I managed to get a complimentary "replacement" for the adapter through Body Glove! The adapter they sent me doesn't look the same as the one I saw in the store. Instead of being a short wired adapter, it's just a solid one inch whitish adapter with a 3.5mm male end and a 2.5mm female end. But who cares since it works great and it's true stereo. Thanks for you help!

Glad to hear it works for you Badbob. That's interesting that the one you got looks different than the one I have. Is your straight, or is it an elbow with a 90 degree bend? Also, what have you tried it with? (iPod, or something/anything else?)

It's straight and not a L. The actual body, not counting the 3.5mm male, is one inch. Also, the body is not uniform from end to end but the middle actually flattens, bulges out (like love handles), and has a textured surface to give it finger-grip. While I would have preferred a L adapter with a few inches of wire, having a non-wired L adapter would be weird since the headset already ends in a L. I've just tried it with my PC and laptop.
