I would be very suprised if a HTC WM6 clamshell is not in the works. Known WM6 designs by others include the i-mate 9150 . Getting a subzidized phone is great but you may be better off with buying better technology and freeing yourself from one GSM provider.

Thanks for the alert and good advice.

Unfortunately, I am locked into AT&T because I have two other phones tied to their family plan. So I can't make a unilateral move that would simply benefit myself.

I posted the same question on the a HowardForum - http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php...;highlight=3125 -and learned about the WM6 that may not be picked up by AT&T.

I guess I will look again after my next trip and if the news has not changed will probably get a 3125 in case AT&T is giving up on the model.

I want to give my 3125 to my wife and get another one for myself. But since the price is so low, I assume that means they are trying to empty their stock.

If so, then what happens? Will there be a next generation model with WM 6? Or should I go ahead with another 3125 and be satisfied for now?

Well I thought I could edit my last message, but ...
I called Cingular and they made an adjustment so it works now.

I think you are right, but I have gone through the Cingular system and can't find a place that allows me to add the day and time.

This happened again this morning and maybe I am too sleepy after 3 days and nights of tornadoes, but I thought when I listened to an unheard VM that it did not give me the date or time. (It was from yesterday and I thought it was today.) If so, what would I need to do to activate this feature?
Thanks.

For some reason, I happened to check the Handango web about VC. Maybe I was checking about a possible upgrade. What I noticed was that the day after I purchased VC 1.6.1 that they uploaded their "last" updated version of the file.

What would be the difference between a file I downloaded on 11/21/06 and one available the next day? I am not tech-savy and having to go through the routine of cleaning off all my programs from my 3125 to do a reinstall is not appealing. Especially because I think my VC is working about as good as it can work.

Just curious is there was a VC 1.6.x released on 11/22/06.

What is Midlet Manager? I don't remember if this was already on the phone and can't tell what it does.

According to a discussion in the activesync Ms NG (that includes WMDC), the Ms techs are saying that most folk who can not syn should clean out all 3rd party programs, do a hard reset and go from there.

Well none of my 3rd party programs have anything to do with sync. I have just Ms VC, Sprite BackUp, Google Maps, and DontForget. Most of not all are on the storage card and at the moment I dont remember install and uninstaling anything else, certainly nothing to do with sync. I don't want to have to do a reinstall of my primary software on this Vista pc since the complications would be beyond my knowledge. In fact, I would even have to relearn how to install all these programs.

Anyway, I don't think my phone is the problem because when the pc arrived with Vista and I installed WMDC, I could sync for at least one day. Then I installed a lot of office software and from then on I never get past the "connected" stage with WMDC. When the sync bar lights up, it quickly turns red and says that 'activesync' encounter a problem with the desktop. The only activesyn I have is the one that came with the 3125.

Thanks in advance for your help. Not being able to sync with my Vista pc is now becoming a serious problem to my system of keeping life organized. I'll have to go back to paper!

Not sure that I will be much help, but I have been running Windows Vista Enterprise on a Dell D610 for a few months now with WMDC Beta 3 and now WMDC RTW and my 3125 syncs just fine with my Exchange server both over the air and through the pass through connection. One thing I always do is to make sure the Mobile Device Settings, Connection Settings has that this computer is connected to The Internet instead of Automatic or Work Network. I don't know if this will help you but it has been a key factor for success since my first WM device many years ago. I think this is normally related to proxy settings at work, but I know that it has helped others at my office get their devices working even on XP with ActiveSync.

P.S. I have been able to browse my phone with the explorer and I have a few hundred MB of songs on my 1GB microSD that play just fine during my commute to work each day.

Thanks for an informative response. Glad it works for you.

Unforunately, my problem is not with ActiveSyn or my Xp pc at work. It is my home computer and the only connection it has is cable Internet. I am weary from all the forums where I have posted this problem and a few others seem to have like issues but none of us have found a solution. My guess is that I will have to wait - months? - for an update to WMDC and it will finally work. I think it unreasonable for Ms to charge me $50 to give me a work-around solution for a problem that is caused by their defective software. Although things went well with you, the forums are full of people who had all kinds of problems with the beta versions.

My case was brand new pc one week ago with Vista installed and I quickly followed directions on WMDC gleaned from other forums. I must say that in some of the Ms NGs that a few have given specific advice and I have tried them all to not avail. The last one was did I install Office 07 or WMDC first because of a possible MAPI issue. I think I did WMDC first, but after Office 07 I did an uninstall, cold boot, and reinstall of WMDC. Unfortuantely, I don't know how to identify MAPI apps and so can't speak to whether there exists other possible conflicts on my Vista pc.

Again this morning no trouble at the office with BT Xp Pro syn, but I need the Vista pc to be in the loop or something will be missing on my 3125 on my next trip.

Are you running the latest version of Mobile Device Center (it is in full release now, not beta), and have you attempted removing it and doing a fresh install of Device Center? Again, with as much time as you are investing I am sure you have done these things, just trying to cover the troubleshooting bases. I have had limited issues when syncing to Vista, but I blamed most of that on the fact that I am still running RC1 and until recently I was using MDC Beta.

Thanks GrYphOn, but yes I am using the full version and have done a reinstall.

My Dell 410 arrived on Monday with Vista Home Premium installed at the factory. Having researched what to do, I went to Microsoft's web and got WMDC. With the initial success, I turned my attention to loading all the other software. So when WMDC and/or the Syn Center failed to ever make a successful syn, I did an unintall from the control panel, a cold reboot, then reinstalled the software after downloading WMDC again in case it had been updated.

I have made several security adjustments like making sure that all the pertinent WMDC files are allowed all ports by my firewall. I ran one boot with Windows firewall unchecked - which confuses me that it was running anyway so I have it disabled. I have not tried to use msconfig and disable everything in startup and services and see (after rebooting) what would happen. I am uncomfortable about doing that and unsure that it would make a difference and wouldn't want to go through that process everytime I syn with this pc since I do so once a day.

The WMDC will connect to my 3125 and has let me explore the phone, but when it starts to syn it stops. The error messages from WMDC are: syn started, syn stopped, "Activesyn encountered a problem with the desktop." Yes, it does say "Activesyn" even though I do not have it in my control panel and never installed it. I think it is just a carry-over of the old program because WMDC and the Syn Center execute like Activesyn but have added features.

Vista doesn't use activesync, it uses Windows Mobile Device Manager. I assume that is what you are talking about.

You're right, of course. When I get in a hurry my memory blurs. I have been working on 5 new devices lately all of which have required hours of tech support. My "restful Saturday" started with 3-4 hours of tech support on the phone and still unresolved problems like the one in this thread.

When I called Ms about my problem, then said I could pay $59 to get help. I said that was unfair since their driver was deficient and they have had a long history of problems with this new syn software. Then they said call Dell. And I said I did call Dell about another question and brought this up. Even though they are not supposed to work on this kind of software the tech took about 30 minutes trying to help me solve it. Then Ms said to try self help and I replied I have gone all through the MS web, the laughable troubleshooting 'guide' for the Syn Center, and posted messages in three different forums.

Well ... my dancing in the streets was premature. The syn reported earlier in this thread is the ONLY time that it has worked.

After that success, I turned my attention to loading all the software on the new pc. I have everything going with one exception (Paperport) that has been turned over to the vendor's research team for a solution.

So I have uninstalled the activesyn Vista 32 bit software and reinstalled the software according to online instructions (like with device connected). I have disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs.

On occasion the Vista window will show the device is connected and reports that the syn has failed. But soon the little green flashing bar changes to red and reports the syn failed. Underneath is a note about "1 error". I click on the hyperlink and it goes nowhere. I have go through all aspects of the Syn Center software and no found any place to change a connection setting so I don't know if that would make a difference.

So what's the verdict? Do I have to wait for the next version of this software or is there a known solution? I have Outlook 2007 on both my Vista pc and Xp Pro pc with no problems with the Xp syn.

Well, I can't get it to work.

Followed instructions on Ms web. Everything seems to be installed properly. Show ready to syn, but every time I tried to activate the syn Vista gives me the message "syn failed."

Soooo, I don't know what to do. Anyone gone through this that can draw some pictures for me, please?

I have successfully sync'd my phone with my laptop (Running Vista RC1 with Office 2007 beta), as well with my PC (running XP with Office 2003), so you shouldn't run into any problems if that is what you are asking. I don't make it a common practice to sync outlook with my computers since I sync with an exchange server, but I will from time to time to make sure that my computers have a "backup" and that I am up to date on things across the board.

Yes, that's what I was asking. Little surprised it works, but glad to hear things will be okay. Now I know which version of Office 2007 to install on my new Dell with Vista Premium.

Sorry, I obviously meant Outlook 03, not 06.

And I have read about the syn software that is new with Vista so I hope this does not become a problem. Anyone with a 3125 used the Vista version yet?

My new home pc arrives Monday from Dell and will have Vista. I want to immediately load Office 2007, but my pc at the office has to wait until the entire building does this and I have no idea when that will happen.

So if I have Outlook 03 on my office pc and Outlook 07 on my home pc, will the 3125 be able to syn the email, calendar, and contacts?

I don't know if there's an easy way to do it.

But, maybe it'd be easier to hard reset the 220 (first tell ActiveSync NOT to sync your contacts list) then just re-load the few programs you think she might need. I imagine her needs are pretty basic and might not need much more than what the phone's ROM comes pre-loaded with.

I just did this scenario setting up a 3125 to give as a gift. I set it up in ActiveSync but made sure not to sync my contacts, tasks, or anything else. In fact, if you just set it up as a "guest" each time you connect it via USB to your computer it won't sync anything but will allow you to access the storage card and internal memory.

Then you will probably want to "beam" her a few contacts like your phone numbers etc.

Thanks for pointing to the obvious. If I do have programs on this phone, my mother will not need them.

So a hard set just returns everything to factory settings?

I can't seem to find the manual, can you remind me how to do a hard reset on this MPX 220?

Thanks.

Now that I am using a Cingular 3125 and an older phone my mother has been using is being phased out by Cingular, I plan to give her my MPX 220.

Unfortunately I have 200+ contacts in the phone and it would take a week to delete them one at a time. I wish I had acesss to an Outlook with no contacts and I imagine it would be possible to then remove all the contacts at once.

So what must I do? My 80-year old mother is going to be lost with so many names and I am not sure that she will be able to learn how to use the voice command. She has had a lot of mini-strokes and can not handle some semi-complex tasks.

Thanks for any advice.

http://www.thepocketsolution.com/Merchant2...125_accessories

Anyone know if the first case listed with the name "leather sheath" really fits the 3125 with the extended life battery?
The photo reminds me of the case by Noreve discussed earlier in this thread. But as the review of the Noreve points out, the top part of the case falls free and flaps in the wind when the phone is fully extended.
Anyway of knowing is this PocketSolutions case will do the same or if it really works with the 3125?
I sent email to PocketSolutions, but need the case in less than 2 weeks for a trip if it really works. I wish they had a phone number to call rather than sending an e-form that takes days to get a response. Or if they had more photos of the case it would be easier to tell if it might work okay.

Try out the trial. If you don't like it then you can always just remove it via remove programs on the phone, or add/remove through activesync.

Sorry to be so cautious, but you really think that I can completely remove this program if I don't like it or it causes a problem?

The only programs I have installed are VC 1.6, Sprite BackUp, and DontForget 2Beta1.

1) I don't remember exactly. A couple MB I think.

2) There are seceral options. It doesn install it's own homescreen, but you don't have to use it. You could take the Cingular .xml homescreen file, open it in notepad, and insert the Fizz plugin to the Cingular homescreen if you want. It can be a little confusing to edit an .xml in notepad, and there are hmescreen exitors out there thar may be able to put the Fizz plugin to the Cingular homescreen.

I'd be more than happy to insert it for you if you want. Just post the Cingular .xml (either the actual file as an attachment, or copy/paste the info directly from notepad), and tell me where you want want it on the homescreen (between other plugins), and I'd do it when I got a chance. I think editing homescreens is fun, and worth learning how to do if you're willing to put some time in it though.

Thanks for this generous offer Smeg36. For now, I am still studying the program but if it requires editing the xml file that might slow me down. In the manual available at http://www.fizzsoftware.com/products/trave...raveller2.4.pdf they talk about the latest version - 2.4 - and it has a section on what they call a homescreen plug in. According to the documentation it is now installed along with the original program. Maybe that bypasses the need of manually editing the xml file.

I need to just install the program and see what I get but after things not going well with a program on my first phone I don't want to get in over my head. I do use Sprite now so I suppose I could go back to my current configuration if there are complications.

I am looking at this program again while reviewing upcoming trips.

Two questions are before me now:

(1) How much memory does the traveller software use? VC 1.6 takes so much memory, I don't know how many more programs I can load.

(2) I looked at the manual but am confused about the home screen. Does their home screen take over the one by Cingular? Or only when activated? Or can you set it to only show parts of the data on the Cingular home screen.

Thanks.

Now that I am home, can report that the installation of 1.6.1 went smoothly. No problems. Everything I have tried works okay, but I don't use BT headsets and the Howard thread mentioned earlier has a discussion about how to make sure they work.

Edited to ask about the video that Ms provides on the Handango web: namely, http://www.handango.com/Enterprise/microso...ommand_high.exe

I can easily watch this on my pc, but wanted it on the phone itself until I learn the basic phrases. I thought listening to it while driving or on the plane would be easier than search the text help file that is provided.

However, when I try to activate the VoiceCommand_high.exe file on the phone I get a warning that this is from an unknown publisher and might hurt my device? Hugh? Is it not from Microsoft? Even so, will it in any way damage a 3125? I only have media player so it might not play anyway.

What method did you use to app unlock the phone? It should be a relatively easy registry edit to relock the phone again. I like that they finally added support for bluetooth, but it still doesn't work on the Treo through bluetooth. I can't believe that Palm puts such emphasis on one-handed use, then leaves out such a vital function.

I'm in the middle of a trip and don't have all my notes, but I thought it involved a registry change plus activating a file that insurances the applications are unlocked. I know a hard reset will fix the registry, but I didn't know what the other file had done. The file came in a zip file named SDA_ApplicationUnlock.

Since my original post, I've now seen a message from a 1.6 w 3125 user that says he keep his apps unlocked. And read somewhere else that some uninstalled 1.5 and others didn't even bother to uninstall 1.5. But I think the last group ran into some complications.

I think these were the registry changes:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies:
Change the DWORD named "1001" to 1
Change the DWORD named "1005" to 40
