_ Motorola MPx220 _ Roaming

Posted by: blackie1491

When I got the MPX220, it had ROM 1.28 and my phone did not show roaming.
When I updated the ROM to 1.49 it showed roaming. I know it is a Quad band but I saw where in Engineering Mode, under OPcode, you could change the GSM frequencies.
I have had the sim for 2 years and this is the first time it has showed up as roaming.

Is it something I should be worried about?
Should I change ROM or adjust frequencies?

What provider are you using? My guess would be the way the different ROMs identify the providers is causing this. My bet is that you're connecting to the same tower as before, it's just being identified on the phone differently. It's possible your provider has a roaming agreement with another carrier on the tower you're connected to. With the previous ROM it showed as your provider. With the new ROM it's identifying it as the provider that own the tower. That's my guess at least.

My server is Fido, which was bought by Rogers which owns the towers.

I'm with smeg. I can't tell you the number of phones I've updated that said they were roaming after the ROM update. Sometimes the little triangle goes away, sometimes it requires a seem edit to make it go away.

Sorry, but I don't know what seem you'd have to change to fix this.
