Last night, I setup an ORB account to see what it was like and what I could do with it.

I think it is pretty cool.

I could setup my own server etc... but why waste the time when they have already done it and
have done a pretty good job.

ORB if you are not familar with it, provides a way for your to access pictures, sounds, videos from
your own workstation from your Treo 700W or other network connected device.

You access it via the browser and it then shows you what is available. Most of the content is
sent to your device using WMV or in the form of images.

It's especially nice with VZWs EVDO network. Streaming videos and music works great. You need to have a decent upload speed on your PC as well though.

I just tried out the live samples on the 700 myself at:

http://test.orb.com

It used to be a pay service but it's free to consumers now which is very cool... hope it stays that way..

The Orb app is crashing with XP on the PC for some reason. I'll have to get it going. Lot of stuff on this pc...

Anyone else have this problem with XP?

weird about the crashing, marathon - let us know if that happens again (ping support@orb.com)

i'm a bit biased because i work at orb, but i agree that it's pretty boss on any win smartphone on verizon EVDO (i use an i730, myself, with a hefty supersized battery for TV-watching purposes)

i'm always looking for killer use stories, so PM me if you've got a classic one (i won't bore you with my most recent one involving the final minutes of the Lakers game on the phone instead of peering past the bouncer at a westwood bar)

except i guess that i just did...

thanks for the initial shout-out there, krelvinaz!

and smeg, 300k up should be sufficiently fantastic (that's my own situation with comcast) but a lot of pipe providers will even up you past that if you just call in, no extra charge (depends on your provider, of course)
