Can anyone recommend or know of a source for a SLIM battery & cover for my 3125? I believe it is the battery/cover that is on the phone as it is sold overseas as the Qtek 8500?

I'm shopping for a new wireless device and I'm leaning towards the Verizon XV6700 because of it's much faster data speeds. But I'm open to the idea of a PDA with wireless data capabilties. Can anyone tell me the differences, if any, of the operating software?
Specifically Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC vs. Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC PHONE EDITION?

Thanks to everyone in advance!

MPx220, ROM 1.43

In my POP3 email account setup, under "Download the following messages:", I have chosen "Today's messages".

Under that email account, when I choose "9 Send/Receive", it logs on and then will download & display today's messages just fine, but it will then continue to "scan" all the other messages that are still on the server. For example, today, there are a total of 344 messages and only a handfull are from today. All this extra scan time takes FOREVER and drains precious battery life. Is my only option to manually STOP the send/receive after I know it has gotten the messages I want (today's)?

Hello, MGN experts.

My secondary phone/device is a Clolor SideKick with T-mobile. I have their unlimited data plan for the Sidekick. On my bill it displays "SKICK Unlim Plus Svc" and "SKICK Unlimited Plus" wich gets me unlimited data and text messages for $29.99 a month. This plan does not offer me any free phone minutes, but I don't use this device for talking...only data & text. My total bill per month is approx $31.50 with taxes and such. My ultimate goal is to have this same plan with T-Mobile, but I want upgrade to a more high tech device....maybe an MDA, an 8125, an iMate...I just don't know which is right for me yet.

Anywho, I've been trying to get my MPx220 (unlocked) to work with the T-Mo SIM card from my Sidekick, but after many attemps with suggestions from various posts here on MGN, I can't get the data to work. The phone and text messages work fine though. One of the posts did say that the SideKick Unlimited plan specifically would NOT work on other devices and that I'm SOL. Can I get confirmation on this? Or possibly another suggestion for settings to try?

Thanks in advance!

Plug in the regular home or car charger and then apply a small amount of pressure to the charging plug, pushing it to the right.

Where does one find the "Motorola offline updater" and instructions on how to use it? Or is that a taboo item as well?

My MPx220 has ROM 1.30 as it was delivered to me from the Cingular store. I plan on using the Motorola website to update to their offered 1.43 ROM. How do I save the ROM I have here in the phone to possibly go back to the 1.30 in case I'm not happy with 1.43? And then how would I reinstall it without Motorola's online updater? This info would also be helpful in case I were to search online for other ROM versions to play around with.

Well, I couldn't find an LCD at a reasonable cost to repair my black "unlocked" (as advertised) MPx220 that I bought on eBay a couple of months ago. I have a friend that works at a Cingular store and he was able to get me a new "US" silver one for $50 with renewing my Cingular contract for two more years. I've been with them since the early 90's, so I don't mind being "stuck" with Cingular.

Anyway, I was assuming that I was buying a SIM locked, Cingular branded phone since I was buying from his regular phone supply from the store. I put the SIM from my T-Mobile phone/account into this new MPx220 and it worked just fine. I didn't get a chance to mess with the data settings yet (for T-mobile), but the phone functioned normally by making & receiving calls to/from the T-Mobile number.

Does this mean the phone is as "unlocked" as it can be? I was under the impression that some phones can be SIM locked AND/OR "application locked". But, I was thinking that since this is a Windows powered Smartphone I am able to utilize applications as I see fit. I've only had this new MPx a few days but so far have had no problem installing TCPMP and Thunderhawk browser (trial version...no way I'm paying $50/year for that). I'm think that if THIS MPx220 that I bought from a local store was delivered me UNLOCKED (is it totally?), wouldn't they ALL be? And if THAT'S the case, wouldn't all those MPx220's for sale on eBay right now already BE unlocked and that people shouldn't be paying more for one that some has "unlocked for you"?

Yes, I need to learn how to write shorter posts....

My MPx was in my left front jeans pocket when I took an ugly spill on my enduro motorcycle. I just happen to land right on that leg and have a nice MPx220 shaped bruise there. Both the internal & external LCD are completely shot, but the phone still makes and receives phone calls. I've already taken mine apart and changing the LCD's (they're both the same piece) is pretty straighforward.

What's your (or anyone else's) opinion on paying $65 (plus two weeks delivery time) for just the LCD for the MPx220?

There's ONE on there right now, but it's $45.99 + $19.99 shipping + in Hong Kong. Seems a bit steep to me when I can get a whole phone for less than $150. FYI, they're available from cingular for $149 (refurb, with new or renewed contract).

A long shot I know, but does anyone know if the LCD from the MPx200 will directly fit into the MPx220? My 220 has a broken LCD and have access to a 200 if that will fit...

My current "other" device is the T-Mobile Sidekick and IT even has a brightness adjuster.

If anyone knows of a registry tweak for the MPx to adjust backlight, let me (us) know. I plan on learning how do really get "into" this phone.

I work for Norfolk Southern (formerly Conrail) in Delaware.

Hello, everyone. I'm a new MPx220 owner (ROM 1.43) and with the help of a close friend and MGN, I'm learning a lot about owning a Smartphone. I'll do my best to ask educated questions (I have many) that are simple (to those who know) to answer. The first person to respond "Do a search!" will be hunted down and their cell phone/PDA/pinky toe will be placed on the tracks ahead of one of the trains that I operate. I believe that if you have the time/knowledge/energy to respond to those who ask redundant questions, do so in a productive manner or keep quiet. Enough with this rant and on with my question.....

Is there any way to reduce the brightness of the backlight? I'm pretty sure that I've been through all the phone settings and did not see any such adjustment. When I'm in a dark environment I prefer the brightness of the display AFTER the "backlight" has timed out, so if there's any way to turn it down or even OFF (although I'm afraid this would also disable the keypad lights), I'd like to be able to do so. If this is something that can only be done with a registry edit, I'll make it a personal goal to learn how to do that before the end of this weekend.

Did I just make this post WAAAAY longer than it needed to be??
