This year MobileGadgetNews MVP reydiodj and yours truly were invited to judge for the Smartphone and PocketPC Magazine Best Software 2006 Awards. I selected to judge in four categories and I will admit is was a bit of work. However, it was fun to try 4 or 5 programs in a category that provided similar functions. Judging criteria included installation, ease of use, feature richness, visual interface, system resources, value, WOW factor, functionality, reliability, manufacture support, and documentation. I highly recommend you pickup the Smartphone and PocketPC Magazine, 2007 Buyer's Guide when it comes out. I use the current guide to screen software, hardware and accessories that I may want to buy.


The 2006 Best Software Awards finalists are now public. These top vote getters have a finalist icon besides their name in the nominations listings. Winners will be announced with the publication of the 2007 Buyer's Guide, and appear on-line no later than October 16.
