Mine is out for delivery so I should have it around 11:30 (since I'll be in meetings until then)...

Well at least my trip to South Dakota was a little productive.

Nothing like topless bars and new cell phones.

Don't expect this in the near future from Cingular... Last I heard before I left there were some hardware or software issues that were causing a delay.

The cingular will have two WM5 PPC devices but not three what are to odds? .The candidates are cingular 8525(TyTn), HP hw6900, Treo with WM. If so i'm going for the TyTn.

So I'll chime in on this, partially because I'm leaving Cingular and partially because I have been reading lots of crazy info going around about this device...

First: DON'T expect this device to come out on Cingular any time before October. There is a SLIM chance it might, but I HIGHLY doubt it. I have heard anywhere from LATE Sept to Early Nov so October is a fair guess.

Second: From my understanding, and as it is suggested by the pic, This device WILL NOT support video calling. Cingular has said they will not support direct video calling but rather something where you can "show" people what you see. I will see if I can find the source that I read that in.

I only have about 7 days left in Cingular, but I will see what I can dig up on this device before I leave. I WON'T break any confidentiality agreements that I hvae signed though so don't expect anything too crazy.

Hey buddy, glad to have you back... I know we've talked a bunch since you've been gone, but I'm sure you are happy to see your family. Hopefully you get a nice little break and enjoy the time with your "newly" aquired Smartflip (or 8500 I forgot). Hit me up via IM... I've got some BIG news for ya...

I am excited to get my hands on either. No more waiting for Cingular to release the updated version here either. Tri-Band UMTS, Quad Band EDGE...

I know I will be hunting for this in a few of the many malls in Bangkok when I get there next week. It looks like the availability other than the website is on the 26th. I'm just PRAYING I can find it...

I know I should have it up and running shortly with a Cingular version of the ROM. Probably about 2-3 weeks. Hopefully before I leave for Thailand in mid-april. I would guess it will be May, not June, but it is going through testing right now.

So I break the mold... I've actually got 4 phone lines...

I have my NYC phone, my blackberry, my air card and my Seattle phone. I'm lucky thought because I don't pay for any of them.

I really only carry 2 + my aircard on a daily basis... Now that I think about it I also have an EV-DO card that I don't pay for...

Wow... Awesome update on my V-Day front....

Not only did the PhD girl love all of my surprises, she had one of her own...

This girl tracked down a bottle of wine that I have been hunting for for weeks. Not only is it my favorite bottle of wine, it is VERY hard to find. She actually remembered the name of the wine and was able to find it at a store on 207th St in Manhattan. That is practically upstate, especially when we both live in downtown Manhattan.

And I thought my presents were nice...

Flowers to the PhD girl being delivered in about an hour...
Brownies for the PhD girl's coworkers being delivered at the same time...
Tonight is take out and a movie with the PhD girl at her house followed by chocolate covered strawberries for desert.

Someone might have a new girlfriend that is smarter than all of my friends combined by next week.

hahahahahahahaha

I haven't held the 9100, but I can't see the weight being that much different. The keyboard is really nice. I like it better than any of the other keyboards I've used (7100g, 8700c, 7290, Treo 650, Treo 600, HP6515). After playing with this last friday for an hour or two, I can easily say I'm going to one device as soon as mine arrives.

Seattle was robbed.... Anyone that says that game wasn't fixed by the refs is CRAZY....

When Madden, and half the sporting press, are scratching their heads at some of the calls, you know something is up...

Oh well. Not the end of the world.

I have a slightly used, unlocked SMT5600. This phone has the Cingular branding on it and is in Excellent condition. It has never been dropped. I'm asking $175 for this phone shipped.

I also have a brand new, unopened Cingular 2125 (HTC Farraday) that is available. This phone is locked to Cingular, but I can easily unlock it. I'm asking $350, shipped, for this phone.

Finally I have a slightly used Cingular 2125, no nicks or noticable wear on the phone. This is also locked, but can easily be unlocked. I'd like to get $300, shipped, for this phone.

I can be contacted via PM on here or IM me at nskgti at hotmail dot com (MSN)...

I'm in NYC and take paypal or cash if your local. All shipping will be next day air by 3pm...

So in the last 2 years I have toyed with the idea of going to one device. With the Wizard release quickly coming up on Cingular, I'm really torn right now. I work for Cingular so it isn't like I pay for 2 devices/service, but recently I have really been thinking about it.

So my pro's and con's, let me know if you have any other ones that I've missed:

Pro's:
-Much less stuff to carry around day to day
-Don't have to worry about dealing with multiple chargers on trips
-Only having one device to deal with at the airport
-With how powerful devices are today, there is no need for a second device for email
-Goodlink isn't likely to get shut down anytime soon
-Microsoft's push (MFSP w/ WM5) is almost up and running at my office and as long as it works well, I'd move to that in a heartbeat.

Con's:
-I only have one phone number, which means everyone gets the same number
-If I lose my device, I don't have a back up to call anyone
-My battery use will go way up on one device. Right now I can make calls based on which device has more battery available
-I will have room in my pocket for my gf's stuff if we go out (wait , NO GF anymore not as big of a deal)
-Only one device to play with when I get bored.

NYC, LA and some of the other "Large Markets" are not covered either because of Spectrum constraints or network build complexity. Cingular is picking up 10Mhz of spectrum from TMobile in NYC on January 1st and another 10Mhz on January 1st of 2007. This means 2 things... HSDPA in early '06 in NYC and TMobile is going to lose half of their capacity in NYC.

So for all you NYC'ers with TMobile, get ready for a lot of "call failed" messages...

So there are a few things I'd like to updated now that I've had the phone for 2 full days of usage...

First, the reception on this phone is AWESOME. I think I have only seen 3 bars once (4 being the max). All the calls I have made have been crystal clear also. I partially attibute this to Cingular's MASSIVELY improved network in the NYC area. In comparison on my SMT5600, I would regularly see 2-3 bars, but the voice quality had also improved on that. I think the sound quality is quite good on the SMT5600, but it could be a little louder and more clear. The 2125 fixes ALL of my complaints. The speaker is crystal clear and loud.

Battery life: Considering I have been playing with this thing constantly I would think the battery life would have been much lower, but it has been awesome. I would say it is possibly better than the 5600, which I could easily get 2 days of normal usage out of. This is even with the use of Goodlink which I think lowers the battery life because of the constant vibrating when emails arrive. I'm happy with what I've seen with the 2125.

Finally a little thing that I like is the GPRS/EDGE notification is nice. It shows an E for EDGE and a G for GPRS. This seems like such a small thing, but it is nice to know when you are connected to EDGE or not. And NO I haven't seen the G for GPRS yet, but I'm in downtown Manhattan and wouldn't expect to since the 850 EDGE network here is pretty much flooding my house (-50 db on the 8700 blackberry I had for testing a few weeks back)...

So as I said, if you want a Smartphone instead of a PocketPC I would definitely jump on this device. The lack of WiFi should not hold anyone back. In fact I would push people towards it because with a device this small (in turn a small battery) you will see much shorter battery live (probably under an hour) with it. EDGE is plenty fast for the small screen.

I can't say I'm surprised they are not supporting WiFi.  I know I wouldn't buy their expensive data plans if I could just wait until I hit a free wireless hotspot...

Unlimited data is 19.99 with Cingular for the smartphones....

Personally I don't have a problem with $19.99 if there is much better reliability over TMobile's data network.

FWIW, in a MS webcast last week about Activesync, the presenter announced that the Feature and Security Pack (the component that will make Direct Push work?) was RTM'ed to device manufacturers on November 14th.  As such I would expect a delay in all HTC phones untill they can be shipped pre-loaded.

Nope... I have one right now and it doesn't have the MSFP....
