I haven't streamed TV myself, so I don't understand the question fully. Do you already have the software and so are just looking for streams? The software the above link is to says it offers "over 60 stations" and "no subscription fee is required". After you drop the $20 for the software, you're good to go...that's what it sounded like to me anyway.

I've been kicking around the idea of a SlingBox myself. Then I could watch whatever I could watch at home...live programming from our cable operator AND programs waiting to be watched that are recorded on our DVR. Our cable company also has many channels of music of different genres. So, those would be available to me too. I could stream live TV, recorded TV, genre specific music, and the several local radio stations carried by our cable company as well. Cool.

In theory anyway...

I got a Slingbox this year to keep me sane when I was at Scout Camp for a week. I didn't really think I'd use it all that much after that, but was very wrong. It's an amazing piece of hardware/software. I absolutely love it, and think it was worth every penny. It's the only way to stream in my opinion.

Well, that's sort of a long story. In the end I paid $350 for it with a new SERO contract. The SERO website, http://www.sprint.com/sero, doesn't have the 700wx available yet. They do have the 700p for $350, and they had (I just checked and they seem to have removed it) the PPC-6700 for $320. When I signed up for SERO the 700wx wasn't out yet, so I got the PPC-6700. The 700wx came out when I was still in my 30 days, so after calling about 10 different reps I was finally able to get one to exchange the PPC-6700 for the 700wx if I paid the price difference. Most wanted me to exchange it through the Inphonic, the company which distributes the phones for SERO. Since they didn't have it, that was a problem. But if you call enough people you can get it exchanged.

The other way to go about doing it is to just walk into a Sprint store and get the 700wx on a regular plan. Then you can call up Customer Service and pester them until you find a rep willing to let you switch your current plan over to SERO. You may have to call in about 10 times for that as well. Either method should get you a 700wx on SERO eventually though.

You're going to love the 700wx. It's the 700w with all the features, plus more, but none of the bugs. It's in the same shell, and has the same OS, but really feels like a completely different phone. I love it (but not as much as I loved my Q. I can't wait for Sprint to pick the Q up).

Getting back to the topic at hand, the 700wx works great with the Slingbox. I get much better results with Sprint than I did with VZW because I get double the data speed with them than I did with VZW. And I also dont' have to worry about breaking the terms of my contract because Sprint allows streaming.

Smeg - Glad to hear you think highly of the Slingbox. Which model do you have (they offer three)? What do you sling (live TV, recorded stuff, music)? Does one type of stream work better than another, or is it all good?

I currently stream via wifi. I'm completely hooked on it now (live radio and my own music collection). Since I am currently on a pre-paid plan, I'm limited to streaming ONLY when I have an active wifi connection. I'm very much considering changing my plan to a post paid with unlimited data. Then I'd stream via GPRS, right? I'm not sure if I have EVDO (like I even know what that means!)

I read somewhere there is a hack for keeping the GPRS connection always on. You could do this if you have an unlimited data plan and therefore eliminate the wait that occurs each time you open a new GPRS connection. This sounds to me that if you have GPRS "always on" that drop outs (like wifi does occasionally) would be a thing of the past. Or, is that just in my dreams?

I have the original Slingbox. I think it's the same as the Slingbox Pro is now. I only stream live TV. I don't have a DVR or Tivo to use (wish I did), or satellite. Audio would stream better than TV because it uses less kbps to stream just the audio.

If you got the post paid unlimited data on Cingular you'd probably be using EDGE (does the SP5m have EDGE?). It's average download speed is around 140kbps or so. More than adequate for audio, but I don't think it's fast enough to do video. You could easily do video via wifi at hotspots though. EVDO is the high-speed data on CDMA carriers (Sprint and VZW). I get around 500kbps download speeds, which is more than fast enough to stream TV via Slingbox.

If you had EDGE, it would be an always on connection, which would solve the drop outs for the most part. When I stream via my always on EVDO connection I can watch an hour long TV show and get maybe one or two split second freeze ups, but no real dropouts.

EDGE...EVDO...ehhh...like I said, I thought I had no clue what I was talking about. Turns out I was right.

So, yes, I've confirmed, my phone has EDGE. Thanks for clearing that up for me Smeg. Also, thanks for the info regarding the always on thing.

What site do you use to measure your download speed? Orb usually registers me around 400k. But, according to the http://www.texan.net/speed.htm site it says it's only 204kbps. And, according to http://text.dslreports.com it's 1000+. All of these tests were made within seconds of each other via wifi and multiple tests were made at each site. I'm confused.

I use the DSLReports mobile speed test at http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed. It seems to give me the most accurate speeds. My tests from one second to the next can jump anywhere from 300-600kbps. I think the reason it jumps around may have something to do with PIE rendering data at speeds that fast, I'm not really sure.
