also, have you found that reading word documents on it, it doesnt shrink them to fit so you can just scroll down, you also have to scroll across every single line and THEN down? Is there a way to fix this? Reading law journal articles this way is impossible and definitely ruined a plane ride of mine.

thanks!

i did that and they looked fine, but just in case, i manually reset them to be for now forwarding. then i resest again to be for forwarding. now it works fine!

weird, but it worked, so i guess if this happens to anyone in the future, best advice is to go to gmail, disable and then enable with ideal settings.

thanks for indirect help though- without it id still be pissed- now im not!

all the sudden, my sda wont find new email. the settings havent changed, and it still connects, logs on, but then it says "sending and receiving" and "disconnecting" without getting any email. i havent changed any of my settings, on the phone or on gmail (the email provider i am using)

has anyone experienced this before, and/or does anyone have any advice? not getting new email on my phone is totally the worst problem i could have with it.

thanks!

I migrated from the mpx220- first to an smt5600, now to the sda. heres the story:

- owning over time, the main advantage of the sda (had it since feb) is the SCREEN. its really amazing, and totally blows away the mpx220 as well as the smt5600 (which itself was already better than mpx220). this is because as you use the phone, you love it, you read more online and the screen makes you want to, not scared to, browse the web
- sound quality is great. on my smt5600 i had a little TICK TICK noise problem every now and again. never on the sda yet. sometimes, and this is weird, i hear a sqeak in the headphones, but after MUCH analysis i have determined that it is the PHYSICAL earbud squeaking. so if you dont use the OEM headset, shouldnt be a problem.
- the keys are actually great if you have skinny fingers (i do). otherwise i cant comment, i dont have fat hands. but i will say that if you use the phone for mp3 (i do, its my only mp3 player with a 1gb card in it), then you will LOVE the media buttons. i know people think theyre useless, but i dont. when i want to skip a track, even if the phones been in my pocket for hours, i just reach in and click track forward, and its easy and quick to do, no looking at the phone. with mpx220 you gotta open up the whole thing as i recall.
- only gripe about the keyboard is the joystick. i actually found the smt5600 rocker easier to push down, this one messes up a bit. i do miss that HUGE blue circle on the 220.

good luck!

ok, im having the problem mentioned above- cant seem to get the "read only" box to stay unclicked in the SHORT file- everything else looks good tho. did you say all you had to do to get that to happen was unlock the phone? who unlocked it, tmobile, the manufacturer, or a program online? carrier or device unlock?

ok thanks for everything

p.s. i finally got reg edit installed, though it looks like i wont need it...yet

i read through the thread, and it looks like this doesnt work for the us version (most of these posts are for the european sda). regardless, it seems like you need a "registry editor" to do this, and i dont know what that is or where to get one. can anyone help me out with that?

thanks so much everyone

I just wanted to say thanks for the help; i got the IE favorites to sync which was great. as for the tzones button, thats still incredibly annoying, but hopefully one day a solution will come out. if it does, and someone sees it, please post! or email me

i love my new sda, but im not much of a techie. i am sure that someone who reads about this stuff can help me with this question, though, or at least i hope:

- how do i reset the t zones shortcut button? or at the very least, if i am happy for it to open up internet explorer, how do i get it NOT to go to my tmobile? i assume this has something to do with registry editing (not that i know what that means)

- also, activesync 4.1 says it is syncing my "favorites" folder, but i cant tell where that is on the pc. i would love to be able to make favorite websites on the desktop and sync them to pocket ie. any thoughts on how to do that?

thanks for the help in advance

not really an option- im sure its at least 400 w/o a contract, and after paying somebody (florin?) to unlock it, id just as soon pay a few extra bucks to have wi fi (and no hump)

my smt5600 is getting tired (so much dust in the screen, gprs is so slow!) and i need to upgrade. i have tmobile (1500 min + free nites weekends for 50 bucks? who ELSE would i have) and i need to decide what to do. should i:

- get an imate sp5 (or sp5m) now for 500 bucks from mad monkey boy?

OR

- wait for the sda version to be released? when do you all think that is? how much will it cost? i know someone has the info

thanks guys

does anyone know how to configure the phone for the hack for unlimited sms outgoing w/ t-mobile? on the front page here, it reads just that you need to change sms settings from gsm to gprs, but i cant find the settings for this on the phone.

also, btw the pqi 512 mini sd for 48 bucks is amazing. somehow it seems like it transfers mp3s so much faster than my old san disk 256mb disk did. its awesome, and cheap, if you listen to mp3s on your phone you should DEFINITELY pick it up.

thanks!

wow, thanks for the help- just like you said, its in a folder under my documents called "my smartphone backups."

so, what is a "pbf" file? if the phone were to crash, how would i use the pbf file to load all of that data onto the phone?

thanks so much!

A stupid question from a newbie, but I need to know:

I downloaded Sprite and backed up my new 5600, and it said on the phone that the backup was completed succesfully. but now im wondering...where is the stuff that was backed up? in other words, where can i find the stuff that sprite has saved to my pc? all i can see is a text log.

thanks for helping me out!
