HP Separates Handheld and Notebook Business UnitsPALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 13, 2006 - HP today announced its handheld business will be a separate unit within the company's Personal Systems Group (PSG), enabling the company to provide greater focus and oversight to the multi-billion dollar converged handheld marketplace. Microsoft's push e-mail coming out of Barcelona last week, on the other side of the world HP raised the ante for Windows Mobile device sales to business users.
If you think about all the manufacturers of mobile devices, only one -- HP -- has an enterprise sales and support business model. Separating the "handheld" group into its own business unit frees it to develop the unique channels and infrastructure needed to sell and support mobile handhelds. In large organizations, HP devices are increasingly well positioned to capitalize on any potential Blackberry misfortunes.
