QUOTE (armwood @ Aug 9 2006, 06:22 PM) *
I have been using the new rom for three days. My MDA is fully loaded with over twenty-five programs. The device is notiicably faster and seems to be faster.

Why does Active Sync with Pocket PC 5.0 take so long to sync calendar entries after establishing a new partnership? It takes over an hour. Microsoft needs to do something about this. I only have about two hundred Contacts.

I did run into a problem using Audible.Com player and Active Sync 4.2. Audible support said they are not compatible so I had to revert to Active Sync 4.1.

After using the new rom for over a week I find that the MDA is faster and much more stable, especially if you are like me, a person who loads a lot of programs on his device. I highly recommend this upgrade.

I wish I had 2G in my 220, but am holding out for the 2G microSD to be available at a good price. I'm almost certain my next device will require the tiny chip (hoping a StarTrec will fall from the sky laugh.gif ) and now that adapters are available to make the micro chip work in mini chip devices (like the 220) I think I can hold out. I have LOTS of stuff on my 1G card and still have room. If I had the 2G, I'd just load more music - so no rush on my part. Of course, I don't have a Q in the pipeline... wink.gif

I used a 2GB mini sd in my MPX220. It worked for a while then it started to not recognize data, particularly music which was on the card. I decided to buy a T-Mobile MDA in which I am now using the 2gb card.

I want to kno which US wireless carrier they plan on carrying it if it doesn't have the 850Mhz band. Only one option really, T-Mobile. But even they are starting to use the 850Mhz band for roaming areas.

So many phones. I broke down and bought the T-Mobile MDA. I love it. It was $250.00 at Comp USA.

There is. I use one with all my Windows Mobile devices. I got mine on ebay for about $10. It's a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter.

The adapter works very well with Smeg's old MPX220, sounds great with my Shure E4 earbuds. Pick up on Ebay the adapter with the bend in it.

I suggest going to a T-mobile store and checking it out for yourself. I did that and the SDA sold itself. The keys are a little close but I'll get used to it. the sound was fine for me, but I'm just happy to have music on my phone. good luck.

I have been to the store but playing with a phone in the store is different from owning it over time. I wanted comments from a MPX220 owner, who had updated the rom on the MPX220 so it worked well, to compare its perfomance with the T-Mobile SDA.

The review in Brighthand mentioned the criticism of the SDA audio quality for music files.

I am considering upgrading from a MPX220 to a T-Mobile SDA. On the MPX220 I am using Asian Rom 3.46. I have heard that the key pad on the SDA is difficult to use. Is this true? In the Mobile Techs review the reviewer complained about the sound quality of the SDA playing music files. I use my MPX220 as my small mp3 player. My large player is a Creative Labs Zen Xtra 60gb. How does the audio quality of the MPX220 compare to the sound quality of the T-Mobile SDA. I am a discriminating listener who listens primarily to acoustic jazz. I use Shure E4 earbuds.

Thanks, folks.

Smeg, I have really enjoyed my MPX220 which I received from you. I first used Rom 1.49 then the Asian Rom 1.46. Both worked very well. Have you used the T-Mobile SDA. I was thinking about purchasing that phone. Comp USA has been running sales on it for $99.00 with a new activation or upgrade. I read one review which said that it was not a good mp3 player. The review said that it had poor sound quality. The MPX220 has good sound quality with my adapter and Shure E4 ear buds. Have you heard the SDA as a MP3 player? I know the key pad is very small and that is a problem. Poor sound quality would be a deal breaker for me.

The battery is better on the MPX220. You probably though need to charge either phone every night.

A PodCast with an RSS feed is a very good idea. I listen t PodCasts every day, over twenty per week. I would like one from this site. I would be happy to participate in the PodCast. I produce two for my students in my law classes.

It is useful for storage for audio and video files. It is also a place to place programs in order that you might leave space on the device. Your phone works faster with more free space on the device itself. I store most of my programs on my sd card.

I am using a 2gb mini-sd in my MPX220. There is no reason it should not work in the HTC device.

This way i don't have to carry around my rather bulky 60gb Creative Zen MP# player all the time. The 2.5 to 3.5 adapter sold on Ebay, the one with the bend and green plug works well. The sound is more than adequate with a good set of earphones like the Sennheiser 250.

I just received today my second Top Ram 2gb mini sd card for my MPX220. The first one died after twenty minutes of use. The online retailer in California received it from me, here in Georgia, Friday and I have a new card today, Monday morning. What good service on a RMA. The EBay dealers name is topram*com. I never used them before but i am sure that I will use them again

What issues have you gentlement (or ladies) found with the Jabra 250. I have gone through the Sony-Ericsson 20, 30 and 35, the Jabra 200 & 250 (2). I dropped one 250 in a public toilet and 3 Logitech Mobile Freedom headsets (2) of which died shortly after receipt of them. I really like the Jabra 250. I have no issues with it except that I sometimes lose the ear gel.

The I730 and this device make me wish I was on Verizon with EVDO. A friend of mine bought an I730 about three weeks ago based upon my advice. He loves it. He uses Skype for his personal business. I wonder how well Skype works on the 6700. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Samsung I730 have a faster processor?

Looks interesting. As devices become smaller it becomes easier for us/me to lose them. This one scares me. I am afraid I might lose it. I always lose the ear gel on my Jabra 250. Oh well. Eventually these small devices will become so inexpensive that they will be desposable. I hope I live long enough to see that day.

Over the past three days I have has the opportunity to compare a MPX220 directly with a SMT5600. A forty plus year friend of mine bought a smt5600 last week and let me set it up with software. I worked on the phone for about thirteen hours over two days. All in all I am glad a I chose the MPX220 over the SMT5600. I prefer the clam shell design over the candy bar design. The buttons on the SMT5600 were to small and I found the jog bar difficult to use. The MPX220 has a wonderful, easy to use keypad. The SMT5600 though has a far superior external speaker. When a call comes in the ring tone of the SMT5600 is very loud. I was shocked by how load the volume was on that device. It is far superior to my MPX220 even with Rom 1.49 and with the registry edits posted on this site.

The screen of the SMT5600 is slightly larger than that of the MPX220 which makes it somewhat easier to read but this difference was really not that significant. It was not enough to make me want to switch to that phone. T9 was much better implimented on the SMT5600. It was much easier to turn it off. I, quite frankly, do not like T9. The MPX220 Rom 1.49 T9 implementation is often difficult to turn off and I often waste time in the effort. Does anyone know of a registry edit which will disable T9 on the MPX220, Rom 1.49? Finally the SMT5600 paired with my Logitech Mobile Freedom headset with excellent call quality. It had not worked well with my MPX220. Call volume was way to low for comfortable use. My Jabra 250 is an excellent match for the MPX220. I have to lower the phone volume all the way down on the phone and then lower the volume a little on the Jabra headset. I ended up giving the Logitech headset to my friend.

The major advantage of the SMT5600, to me, was the louder external speaker and the T9 implimentation. The MPX220, to me , has the superior clam shell design and a far superior key pad. Your choice of course will depend on your priorities but after my many hours with the SMT5600 I feel even better about my MPX220 purchase of last month.

okay I went to the t-mobile site to upgrade my plan to include web, there is no mention of tzones or unlimited data, just the tmobile web plan for $5.99... no where does it say it is limited to only tzone sites.

is there only one plan?

Simply call T-Mobile and they will set you up. Calling is a lot easier than doing this on the web. I always call and ask about the latest plan discounts.

I updated Papyrus on my MPX220 today. Tasks are now included. I removed Oxios To do List from my phone after seeing the tasks included in Papyrus. Papyrus now resembles Pocket Informant which is my favorite Pocket PC program. This is a major upgrade, free for current users. If you use Papyrus make sure you download this upgrade.

I am drooling over the potential of this phone. I am a Star Trek fan though not a crazy Trekkie. I only have been to only one convention but I own about sixty-five episodes of The Next Generation & Deep Space Nine (on laser discs and DVD respectively) as well as four or five epiodes of the original show.

I used to present a lot of jazz concerts and at one time I had a jazz club in a hotel in Atlanta. James Doohan (Scotty) was in town for a convention. He was having a drink in the club prior to the show. He hung out the whole night. He was a great guy who recently passed.

I use some of the sounds of Star Trek & Hal from 2001 on my phone and PDA. I definitely want to like this phone. We shall see.
