Here's a screenshot of my edited home.xml. I still need to tweak a few things, but I like it much better than the default home.

I used the following page at micro$oft as a tutorial, long but full of info:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....2homescreen.asp

I copied the fulllayout.home.xml file from the moto to my desktop and edited with just the basic windows notepad, saved it as a new name, then copied it back. There are some xml edditing programs out there, but it was pretty simple to do in notepad...

Hope this helps, I'll try to post a screen shot of how mine turned out in a bit...

I modified the moto's "Full layout" a bit, shrunk the MRU icons down so I see 9 icons, moved the time to the same line as the service provider, added the Date, added the VM count to the message plugin, and added the alarm plugin. I really like the flexability of the xml layouts. I used the "Full layout" as a template so that I would still see the misc. plugins that only apear when there is relevant data, i.e. all day apointments, call detail, etc. The xml files are pretty simple to edit on your desktop in notepad. Then I just use the default backgound, or chose a different image. I'm not really a fan of text labels fixed in the background image as it doesn't allow for plugins to be hidden when no data is present without messsing up the layout...

I've been looking for this option as well... Anybody find anything in the registry, or a hidden option?

ok, I lied... The contacts I copied to the sim do display twice, however they are at the end of the list, all 250 of them. Has anyone found a workaround to hide them? Currently I just use the filter menu option to hide them temporarily...

chaotictc,

Are your contacts showing twice in your list? I've copied 250 of my 275+ numbers to the sim and everything looks the same in my moto's contact list, no duplicates...

Has anyone seen an add-on application for an improved calendar? Developer One has a blurb on their site of one in the works but no mention of approximate completion date, http://www.developerone.com/powercalendar/index.htm
As I stated above I have used pocket informant on the pocket pc for several years, and find the bundled pocket calendar to be limited...

1. There were some defective units without the backlit keys, if you purchase one and they do not light up, it's defective, call CS and have it replaced.

2. External display will display caller ID name information for contacts in your address book. However with 250+ contacts on the phone memory, there is a delay and the number only will show until about the 2-4 ring, and sometimes voicemail may pickup before the caller ID is displayed (minor annoyance)

3. This can be set, several option, I believe 5 seconds is the shortest, then on up to a minute, and finally never turn off (while the flip is open)

4. There have been a few reports of the headset jack cover cracking after several weeks of daily use. However, mine is used about 5 times (very minimal) per week and it is still as firm and in as good as shape as new.

5. There are several ring types: Ring, Ring Once, Vibrate, Vibrate then Ring, Vibrate and Ring, or Silent.

Good luck........

I have a gripe about the month view in the smartphone edition of pocket outlook. The only appointments that display in the month view are those with a busy or out of office status. If the status is free or tentative, the appointment doesn't show in the month view. On the pocket PC I used Pocket Informant for years and was spoiled with the ability to use custom Icons in the calendar. Not sure why M$ didn't take advantage of the great color screen and allow all appointments to display with color codes for status. I'm hoping Alex will eventually develop PI for the smartphone platform, even if it is limited to a just Tasks and Calendar functions.

The jog dial functionality, or lack of, is a known issue. Some are able to get the voicedial to work about 90% with a firm, precise push. For me, it's more like 40%.

I don't believe anyone has cracked the code yet to reassign buttons on the MPX, waiting for that knowledge myself...

Regedit is a 3rd party app, not on the mpx by default. You can find it here: http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit/
Nice little utility to have...

Nice find DP... Once I was able to get it to install, it worked like a charm. Now I hear Hey You (Pink Floyd) when I get a call.

Hello mpx200.org.......

Greetings form an ex-Tosh e740 user! This smartphone is sweet, now if I could only get it activated....

Darkmon, I'm in the same boat as you, had the same issue with amazon and their credit application, finally was told by a rep that the problem was in using a cell phone as the home phone number. Apparently you must use a land line. Tried that, and no problems anymore. Actually recieved my mpx yesturday morning, but the delama continued. Turns out that AT&T's account service software was being upgraded over last weekend, and they hit a glich. I've been calling ever few hours to see if their system is back up, but no luck yet. Talked to them again about 30 minutes ago and was told maybe this evening or into tommorrow morning. Makes me happy I paid for overnight shipping on this thing... Actually, even without service I'm glad I did, gave me a chance to play with it and get it set the way I like. I also have a T-mobile service plan, so I'm carrying around two phones at the moment. You have any luck wiith AT&T, or did you unlock and use another provider? I'm seriously considering contacting one of the unlocking companies and just using my T-mobile plan. I would prefer to get this thing activated through AT&T so I can get the $120 rebate from amazon, and I've heard AT&T has a little better coverage in the Detroit metro area... Hopefully they will be up and running again soon, and then I can finally ditch T-mobile...
