I have been trying to decipher all the rumors about the HTC Galaxy. This looks to be the replacement (or up graded model at least) for the HTC Magician which is currently being sold as the iMate Jam, T-Mobile Compact, or O2 XDA Mini.

The Magician, from all reports, is a great device but is lacking wi-fi and possibly a bit of power.

HTC plans to fix that and then some with this new small screened wonder. Rumors seem to point to the following specs:
Windows Mobile 5.0
Quad-band GSM/GPRS with EDGE support
Texas Instruments OMAP 850 processor
64MB RAM
128MB ROM
2.8" QVGA display
Bluetooth
802.11b Wi-Fi
2.1 megapixel camera with flash LED
A QWERTY slider-keyboard which slides out in landscape mode.

Overall it looks like a VERY nice little device.

If this little Gem sells for under $800 then I think I will be all over it once it is released.

Why would you opt for this device and not the HTC Universal?

Universal looks nice, but it is huge. Size is a factor with me because I need something that doesn't create a bulge in my Utility uniform, and I am not comfortable putting phones or PPC's in my pocket (they get broken in there).

Thanks for posting the OMAP 850 info, I was looking for that.

I am totally all over this phone if it is pretty close to the SMT 5600 in size. Mostly for the WiFi, but the qwerty keypad and WM 5.0 will be nice as well. (EDGE support would be a super) Plus it take MiniSD so my 1GB card will still get some use.

The HTC Universal is way to big for me, I want something that fits nicely in my pocket.

200Mhz may be fine for a Smartphone, but it is less than adequate for a Pocket PC. They use more resources, and thus need more processing power. Pocket PC's broke the 200Mhz threshold years ago, and thus applications and utilities are built to run on faster processors. I mean, c'mon, processors are up to 624Mhz in current Pocket PC's.

I am waiting for the Universal to come out, then I may get it. I have three very important words that set the Universal apart from ANY other Pocket PC Phone out there, V G A.
