I just ordered one from DayDeal yesterday. I'll post my opinion when I receive it. I too, miss the Mpx200 cradle.....

It looks like you have an actual Star Trek and not the Cingular 3125, is that right?

I wonder if that one will work with the 3125 because the 3125 has the bigger battery. That's the only thing I don't like about the 3125 versus the standard Star Trek. Everytime a case or accessory comes out, they have to make a slightly different version of the product to accomodate the extra sized 3125 battery. But, still, you'll have to let us know how you like the charger.

Has anyone found a review for this charging cradle yet?

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=1...;asource=131162

I want to buy it but only if it gets a good review.

It's one of the things I miss the most about going from my MPX200 to the Cingular 3125. Currently, my 3125 charges by just laying on it's back. This charging crade would make it look exactly like the MPX200 used to (fully upright so you can see the screen at all times, etc.)

Dunno if I should try the KingMax, or just go with the standard Sandisk.

Finally decided to upgrade from the MPX200 to the Cingular 3125.

So far I really like the Cingular 3125. Pretty amazing phone.

One of the things I miss the most about my MPX200 is the dock. I sure wish the Cingular 3125 had a decent dock but I have yet to find one. Otherwise, I like the Cingular 3125 alot more than the MPX200.

I also hope Vaja makes a case for the 3125 but I don't know if they will. And if they do make one, they would have to make two (one for the 3125 with the larger battery, and one for the regular HTC Star Trek.) Have to wait and see I guess.

SanDisk makes Extreme II microSD/Transflash cards, they are supposed to be faster. You could research them more on sandisks site and there are a few vendors online that sell them.

Thanks. I'll check the Extreme II out.

Never used Mobiluck, but I can tell you that sniper does work on the 3125.

Thanks for confirming that Sniper works on the 3125. What do you think of Sniper so far?

Did you have to application unlock your 3125, or was it already application unlocked?

This app looks really cool...maybe I should try it out on my new 3125.

Has anyone tried this with the Cingular 3125 yet?

Does it work pretty good on the 3125?

Also, has anyone compared Sniper to Mobiluck yet? I'm thinking of getting one or the other but can't decide which one to get for my 3125. I'm trying to find a comparison of Mobiluck versus Sniper but haven't found one yet.

The case will come out 10/07/2006.. Thats what I have been told..

I just hope that case is better than the Noreve case. Here is the review for the Noreve 3125 case:

http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=porta...iews&id=864

They gave it 4 out of 5 stars but it should have maybe received less due to the ugly flap, the bars it causes on the photos, and the fact that it comes apart after minimal use.

Hopefully someone does a review of the Krusell when it is released on the 7th. I'm going to e-mail Pocketnow and see if they will do a review right away.

Yes, it is a 2bg microSC/TransFlash card with adaptor.

I want to know which MicroSD card is the fastest. Does anyone know?

I remember back when I bought my MPX200 three years ago, there were some (standard or mini SD flash, I beleive) that were supposed to be much faster than others but I don't remember which brand was the fastest of the bunch and those were standard SD flash, not micro. Hopefully somebody knows which MicroSD is the fastest.

It will be disappointing to pay all the postage from France to US to France if I don't stop the order and find it unfit for service. But thanks for the link. The information was very helpful.

Yeah, the thing about the flap is what I don't like the most. And the camera port showing black bars on the sides, and the case coming apart. I think they could have made those things better. I don't see why a big flap is needed, seems redundant, or overkill.

Hopefully Vaja makes a case but I don't know if they will. They have no phone number and they sometimes don't answer all of their e-mail questions.

I think I want this case - http://www.noreve.com/langue/en/product/Et..._Tradition.html - even though it will not help me with next week's trip. Any ideas of it can handle the extra bulk of the extended battery for the Cingular 3125? I sent email to them, but no reply. They advertise it for the Qtek 8500, HTC Start Trek, and Dopod s300.

Looks like the review of the Noreve case is out:

http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=porta...iews&id=864

4 out of 5 stars. It sounds okay, but I dunno.

This seems to be the big question. What is the best case for the Cingular 3125 with the extended battery? Nobody seems to know. I e-mailed Vaja and received no response yet. I guess I'm going to have to settle for something until Vaja gets their act together. But what do I settle for? Anyone? There must be a decent one out there that handles the extended battery just fine and looks nice and is functional, etc.

That Noreve model looks good but does anyone have it? Does it let the phone close all the way and how does it handle the bigger battery?

That sounds like a bummer about the 5MB of memory.

I've run into a limitation like that on my MPX200 as well. It's so easy to fill up the onboard memory on phones. You'd think they would have learned by now.

QUOTE (runningtiger @ Aug 1 2006, 08:38 PM) *
Since I posted above I went looking for comparison photos (photos taken with the built-in cameras of the MPx220 and the Star Trek). I found some that confirmed what I said above, the Star Trek camera takes better photos than the MPx220.

But, what I really wanted to ad here is the following from a review I read:
A2DP implementation is very difficult to manage
Possible reception issues on the 1900Mhz GSM band
Bluetooth radio not as good as the HTC Prophet

The guy who wrote it is a PocketPC user (and apparently a Star Trek (as in Spock and the gang) fan). The entire review can be read here: http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_pr...iews&id=834

But, I found most interesting is the downside of Star Trek for music listening - since I use my 220 to listen to music a lot! The i-mate SP5m I'm waiting for leans towards music use...as well as having wifi.

For you LittleScooby, I took note of the 1900mhz issue since you're concerned about the antenna.

The BT comparison to the PPC HTC Prophet...I don't know how to compare that to the phones we know (MPx200 & 220). But, thought it was important to note. Whatever it means?

Another VERY interesting thing is to just scroll to the bottom of the review and read his "OVERALL IMPRESSION". I've noticed something here similar to other reviews. Users pick apart Star Trek's shortcomings BUT seem very willing to forgive them. Like he says it has "great eye-catching design, sleek keypad, useful external screen, and a very thin lightweight form factor". It's love at first sight, apparently.

The music issues are big to me. So, I'm still not won over.

Wow, thanks for the response runningtiger, that answers alot!

I'm starting to really like the thought of the Star Trek. How about the speakerphone? Is it as loud or as good as the one on the MPX200?

Also, how about the ringtone volume? Do you know if it is as loud as the MPX200?

I'm kinda getting psyched up about the release of the Star Trek on Cingular next week but I'm not seeing that many people anxiously awaiting the Cingular release as I seem to remember there was for the MPX200 release on AT&T 3 years back.

It could just be this forum doesn't have that many Star Trek users \ future users? I noticed HowardForum.com seems to have more Star Trek posts than this forum. Is it the biggest Star Trek forum around?

Also, does anyone know if the Star Trek missed called issue will be addressed before it is released by Cingular as the Cingular 3125?

The missed called issue seems to be the only thing holding me back at the moment (and the build quality issue), but for the price being offered on the Cingular 3125 deal, I could overlook the build quality, but not the missed call problem. I read about the $9.00 patch that a company already released, but it seems weird to me that the problem would go that far as to require the patch. They should just release a firmware update to address it but I understand that will take time. I was hoping they would address that issue before the 3125 release, otherwise I would think they will get thousands of calls about the issue.

Just have to wait and see I guess.

You know, you gain one thing and you lose another. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

That pretty much sums up the MPX220 as well. Why can't a phone come out that just blows away the previous model?

When the 220 came out, you gained the camera and a few other things, but you had to give up the solid build quality, and small size (220 was slightly larger than the 200).

It's a Catch-22 all around on these Clamshell smartphones.

The Star Trek does look like it has quite a few nice enhancements over the MPX200, but it doesn't seem to blow the MPX200 completely out of the water (at least in terms of build quality from what I have been reading). The MPX200 was solid, but from what I hear, the Star Trek feels a little too light\cheap.

Oh well.

Chawks2, how is the screen size compared to the MPX200? Are they the exact same size?

You said it feels a little cheap, can you elaborate?

Do you feel it's worth the upgrade from the MPX200? What do you like the most about it that the MPX200 couldn't do?

Do custom ringtones work perfectly with it?

Well, my amazing MPX200 is almost 3 years old.

Now, I have put up with all the quirks that it contains for quite a long time (never bothered to upgrade the OS as it seems that doing so just causes more quirks from what I've read in all the forums).

But anyway, I skipped the MPX220 upgrade mainly because of the cheaper build quality of the MPX220 and the initial issues with the volume problems, etc, besides the 220 was more of an almost-upgrade but not really a true upgrade because it was bigger, cheaper feel, etc.

Now, the Star Trek seems very similar to the 220 in terms of what I will be getting, so I'm kinda wondering if it is worth it or not to go from an MPX200 to the Star Trek?

I'm up for a Cingular renewal contract which means I should be able to get the Star Trek for $199 after the $100 rebate.

To me, it looks like the Star Trek will get me:

1. An official (supported) Windows Mobile 5.0 flipfone (the clamshell form factor is of course one of the main reasons I currently own the MPX200 and have put up with all of it's shortcomings over the past 3 years).

2. Slightly slimmer, but seemingly slightly bigger footprint (can anyone confirm or deny this - anyone have a picture of the MPX200 right next to the Star Trek for size \ dimensions comparison)?

3. Built in Camera (is this camara any better than the one built into the MPX220)? But hey, I love my MPX200 so much that I almost at one desperate point purchased that lame add on camera because everyone knows the biggest shortcoming of the 200 was the missing camera.

4. Faster processor (anyone know about how much faster? 10, 20 30%?

5. More memory?

6. Fixed ringtone issue that I never had resolved on my MPX200? (i.e callerID wav files don't seem to always work properly - known issue that was never resolved with an MPX200 Smartphone 2002 at least).

7. How about VajaCases, will the Star Trek have one? When I e-mailed Vaja they didn't seem very sure they would release a Star Trek case.

8. Better antenna? ANYTHING, has to be better than the MPX200 antenna. I've put up with it's crummy antenna for 3 years now. I hope the Star Trek antenna is better.

9. The MPX200 was dual band, isn't the Star Trek tri or quad at least?

10. Screen size. Aren't they about the same exact size? Or is the Star Trek screen smaller?

11. BlueTooth. Finally!!

12. Anything I missed?

It's been a while since I looked at the specs for the new Star Trek so I have a bit of research ahead of me, but basically, I want the real good reasons for upgrading to the Star Trek from the MPX200.

And do most of you think it is really worth the upgrade, or is it skip-over-able, like the 220 was?

Anyone?

Anyone who has went directly from the MPX200 to the Star Trek have anything to say about the experience?

I'm trying to do something that may or may not be possible on my old trusty MPX200 and I was wondering if someone knows of any software that exists that can do what I am trying to do (or even if multiple software packages combined) could do this.

Basically, I want to be able to make my MPX200 play different sound files depending on different email rules, or different sound files for different email contacts. I know this can be done for different callers with CallerID programs and for SMS messages. I just need to be able to do the same thing with email.

I have created a bunch of sound files that I would like played as different networking tasks are completed or encountered. My MPX is running Smartphone 2002.

For instance, when my backup software completes a nightly backup, my backup software can email my MPX200 (which could be checking for new email every 10 minutes or so) with the help of a program like check4mail.
The only thing is, I think Check4mail can only play 1 sound file when it determines that email is present.

I also want my virusscan software to notifiy me if viruses are detected on a network, etc, etc (which it can do through email notifications).

Since almost all software can send email based on events, I figured email would be better to use than sms.

I can currently accomplish this project on a normal PC using MS Outlook 2000 rules. I can have a rule that runs a batch file that can play the different sounds based on either who the email message is sent from, or what is in the subject line of a messge, but the email program that comes with the MPX200 is too limited and doesn't have email rules where it can do certain things based on email messages sent to it.

So, in a nutshell, I want my MPX200 to play pre-digitized WAV files saying things like "Nightly Backup is completed, have a nice day", "Virus Detected on network", "File server is down", etc, as these events actually happen on my network.

Does this seem like an impossible project, or could it be done? Any help would be appreciated.

On the box and in the manual it just says USB so I'm guessing it's only USB 1.0 or 1.1 but does anyone know for sure?
