PDAmill is a developer of games and applications for portable platforms including Windows SmartPhones and Pocket PCs, Palm and Symbian devices. Their products show consistently well thought out designs put together into polished final products.

The staff of Mobile Gadget News has been given the chance to review their latest offerings of games for the SmartPhone platform. These games are all jewel based games with different gameplay requiremnts. Jewel games have become like Tetris, in that many variations of the original game have emerged, and all seem to have a dedicated (or addicted) following. This series of games will prove to be just as addicting as their other titles.

Here is what PDAmill has to say about Crystal Cave-in:

QUOTE
As the gems fall from the Melonchi waterfall they must be carefully sorted into vertical or horizontal lines of five to be collected. These gems are possible to collect, but it is a very difficult job and it requires an incerdibly skilled Dwarf to do so...

Note: The screen captures in this review were made using Microsoft's ActiveSync Remote Display. They contain border window information not seen on the actual phone.

When the game starts up you are asked to put in your name:

The main menu gives you a few options:

The INFO section contains quite a bit of information including gameplay instructions and game story.

Here are the options for configuring game play. The volume and brightness controls are pretty self explainatory. The JUMP TO GEMS option is to reduce the number of key presses to move gems around. My recommendation is to select the option. And finally, the EASY MODE reduces the number of gems that you must get in a row from 5 to 4. Since I am not very good at planning games I opted to use the EASY MODE.

And of course, every game must have a high score board!

Ready to play? Let's Go!

The game instructions are very easy. Move a gem at a time to get 5 (or 4) in a line to make them disappear. Each time you move a gem, more gems drop from the top. So eventually the board will fill up so you can't move gems around. If you manage to remove a row of jewels new jewels will not drop from the top. Your goal is to keep getting rows of gems to disappear to keep the board clean.

That is it. It is a very simple game. If you have a SmartPhone then you can play this game. If you are a gem fan you will probably find this game interesting. Unfortunately I am not a big gem fan so I found the game play a little lacking. There isn't any pressure to perform quickly, so a game can be long and boring. I found no problems with the game, but because I think the game lacks an interesting objective I have given it a 3.5 out of 5.
