Oops, I posted this in the Voq forum before I read the whole first page. unsure.gif

Oh well, if I didn't just buy an MDA, maybe...

If I hadn't just purchased an MDA, I probably would have picked one of these up... rolleyes.gif

I'm looking for a screen protector for my new MDA, but no one has MDA-specific sizes available yet that I can find.

Some places have them for other Wizard models, but even though the case shape is different, the screen dimensions should be the same, right?

The only reason I hesitate is because when I ordered one for my SMT5600, the one they sent me was labeled for an SP3i, which should have been a similar size but didn't quite fit.

BTW, I love this phone so far. smile.gif

Well, it's official. Tmo's website is sold out of the MDA, and so is the telephone order line. No word on when they expect to be restocked. sad.gif

If you haven't got yours yet, time to start hitting the shops to see if they have any left...

My store won't sell it to me.

That stinks. It seems like a very quick way to alienate your best customers (i.e., the ones who already pay you every month)...

I have noticed, though, that the quality of individual T-mobile stores varies widely. I've been to several stores in the area that were just plain clueless, and were only interested in getting that next new contract; I've also had some salespeople that knew exactly what I was talking about and knew how to solve a problem.

The guy I spoke with today was good. When he found out how long I'd been a customer, he even suggested contacting Customer Service directly to see if they could get me a better deal than he could (he didn't know that I'd already found the $299 price online)...

My store (Chicago area):

Phone only: 479.99
With Activation: 399.99 - 50.00 rebate (1 yr contract)
Upgrade: 399.99 - 50.00 rebate (1 yr contract)

Seems like the 299.99 price is only available for web upgrades with a 2 yr contract.

Also in the store was a poster advertising a plan package: 1000 min/month plus unlimited data, email, text messages, etc. for 59.99/mo. Seems like a better deal than the add-on $29.99 data plan, unless you need more than 1000 minutes a month.

Edit: Incidentally, I was not expecting this phone to be so small. It's tiny compared to other PDA's I've seen... it's smaller than the Sidekick or Treo. It's actually shorter than the SDA, and just a little bit wider and thicker. Wow.

Yesterday I went into the local T-mobile store, and the sales guy said they were going to be selling it today. I'm heading over there in a little while - I'll let everyone know...

Hey, thanks, everyone! I just got my new 5600 on Wednesday; as of 6pm that day, it was fully charged. Just to test it out, I took it off the charger... Today (Friday) at 8:00pm, the battery meter still showed one bar. My MPx200 would have been dead sometime Thursday afternoon. I've got to say I'm happy. cool.gif

Thanks for the info, guys.

On a semi-related note: OK, I'd seen the pictures, I'd read the specs, but am I the only one who didn't realize just how freakin' TINY this phone actually is? I love it! I was picturing something about the size of the old Nokia 5100 series...

OK, so I've been playing around with my MPx200 for a while now, and I like it for the most part. However, the biggest issue for me is the battery life. I get maybe 24 hours of standby between charges with only occasional short call and SMS use. It's far less if I actually use any of the cool features (which is why I bought the phone in the first place).

Most of the time it's not a problem (though annoying) - I just charge every night. But I'm rarely home on weekends, so quite often I end up with an inoperable phone by Saturday afternoon.

I'm considering switching over to an SMT-5600 (Or SP3, or C500, whichever I get my hands on first), but I'd really like to know if I can expect better battery life. I'm not expecting the 4 solid days I used to get from my Samsung (not from any Smartphone), but I'm hoping for enough battery life so that I can play with WMP and IE and BT and games without worrying if my battery is going to last through the day.

On a related note, are there extended-life batteries available for the 5600?

Thanks!

No the MPx200 (no matter what version) will not support MP3 ringtones.  However 2003 can support wma as well as wav.
*

2002 supports .WAV as well. I'm not sure about .wma...

At 22kHz, a ringtone-length (30 second) .wav comes out to about 1 MB.

At 44.1kHz (CD quality) it's almost 3 MB.

Under 22kHz you can't hear the tone too well on the MPx200's speaker.

Also, as other folks have noted, tones that are mostly bass don't work too well.

I have a Krusell case from Ebay; it fits very well (better than any other brand of case I've tried). I don't particularly like "flip" style cases for several reasons (the phone can open while on the belt clip, the flip never closes completely, etc), but this is the best of them, IMO.

Keep in mind that the plastic on the earpiece flap doesn't cover the screen, as some other models do. I'm working on another solution for that, though; I'll post again if it works. unsure.gif

When you say active, do you scroll down to where you want and then click the blue action button.
If you don't hit the action button, the box is highlighted, but you cannot input text

Hmmm... Let me see...

Nope, still doesn't work. Thanks though...

I think it has something to do with your ROM, but that is all I will say about that.

That's what I'm thinking too... I just thought it was weird, since this is the original ATT/mMode ROM...

I found that I had to hold the asterisk key down for at least three seconds before the phone started showing me my input options.

If you hold down the pound key, do you get the symbols?

No, I don't get those either. And I've held down the keys for at least 10-20 seconds.

Thanks though... smile.gif

I just purchased an MPX200. I'd been playing around with it a bit before I realized... I can't input text! When a text input area is active, there's no icon in the status bar showing the input type; pressing the * key does nothing; no matter what I do, I can't enter anything except numbers.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's a standard AT&T branded phone, unlocked & currently on a T-mobile SIM.

Thanks...
