Here are the things that you need to have set correctly in order to get ActiveSync / Exchange working correctly with any SmartPhone.

(1) On the server itself, you have to enable a particular user to have that option.
(2) That server has to have an open port through a firewall for it (sometimes these aren't otherwise web servers).
(3) Each and every virtual server on the IIS has to be set for the right permission and authentication methods. this is the #1 problem you'll find. changing things on your phone will rarely get past these issues. the default installed exchange server options work. If they've been tinkered with, good luck.
(4) make sure that servers own cert is installed on your phone (not just the CA cert. the whole chain).
(5) there's no wierdness with different logon names/email aliases, though this is allegedly fixed in SP2 of Exchange 2003

The settings on the phone are almost never the problem. They're pretty straightforward. In my extensive experience, someone has afro engineered the exchange server 99% of the time.

Keep searching -- there are ROMs out there. Mine works fine. I don't see any point in waiting, but you need to disable the automatic time zone--Cingular doesn't have that working correctly yet.

Otherwise, there's no reason to hold back. My phone is actually MORE stable this way.

QUOTE (mar2k @ Dec 27 2005, 10:47 AM)
I went to a Cingular company store today and they had the SMT5600 out on display but no sign of the 2125. The rep I spoke with had no idea that the 2125 existed. I supposed I could have held out for a manager or some other rep but they were extremely busy at lunch and I did not press the issue.  I do not see the 2125 available on Cingular's web site in my zip code (I'm in Atlanta, supposedly Cingular's home base) and the phone is not at Amazon.com or anywhere else I can see. Where are you guys getting your phones. Is it through B2B channels or what?

Thanks for any info.

That's pretty similar to my experience. I went to every cingular store in town, both corporate and agents, and none of them even knew what I was talking about. Fortunately, I had printed out a page from some site with the promotional materials, so when they said "there isn't any such thing" or "yeah, but what's the brand, 2125 what, Nokia?" I could show them.

I got it online the night before the official release. Keep trying at the stores, though. The ones here finally have one or two i hear, but bring the paper showing it exists (=

You can't.  Those items take up such a small amount of space that it doesn't really matter if they are stored on the phone memory.  The files you really need to make sure are on the storage card are rings, video clips, applications, and music.

Except you can, or at least you will be able to.

Contains a CAB file that will let you move your cache IE files to the card, and the author is working on one for favorites and others.

I wish I even had the Cingular image. Anyone have a lead on that?

QUOTE (TomTheGeek @ Jul 3 2005, 01:28 PM)
Okay I am back running the Cingular 2003 SE image. I was worried but it was pretty easy to do. Here's what I did.
  1. First download itsutl from here.
  2. Download SPL-1010064SDimg.zip from SPV Developers.
  3. Rename the SPL-1010064SDimg somthing easy like arc.bin then copy it to the itsutil\build folder.
  4. Get a command line and cd to the itsutil\build folder.
  5. Run
    CODE
    psdwrite x: backup.bin

where x: is the drive letter given to your SD card and backup.bin is whatever you renamed the SPL-1010064SDimg file (this will overwrite all of your card data)
  6. Put the miniSD card in your phone and hold down the camera button while powering on the phone. If done correctly you will get a message asking you to press the volume down button if you want to flash this image.
This will flash your bootloader to SPL 1.01.0064 where you can then flash any rom image you want. The SPL-1010064SDimg does not have an operating system on it, it is just the bootloader so you can flash the real ROM Image.
  7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 with the ROM image you want to use on the phone.
There is another method over at SPV developers that uses pearl and is a lot more complicated but might work on phones that are otherwise SOL. I suggest this method if you phone is still booting fine since it is much simpler.

I've read on this site that someone formerly had a Cingular ROM up, and I've read elsewhere that Cingular itself has one that it might be able to give to people. I've never even used my 5600 on AT&T (except for roaming) and just had it unlocked.

Is there any benefit to upgrading the ROM? I imagine it's probably got a thing or two fixed or better...

Anyway, if anyone could point me in the direction of that ROM link that works or place where it might be, that would be wonderful
