ok check this out. I bought a MPX220 from ebay while ago. it was locked to AT&T. So I contacted Cingular and requested an Unlock Code. They provided it to me via email a few days later.

As you may or may not know you are allowed, by the phone, 5 attempts to correctly enter your unlock code before the phone Hard Locks to the original provider it was programmed for. I enterd mine once, apparently Wrong cuz the phone immediatly hard locked, which eant some other moron had attempted sumthing another 4 times!!

So, Thinking I was screwed, I was getting ready to box my phone up and send it to a company I found on he net that claimed to be able to repair this kind of hard lock when a friend of mine suggested trying to flash it with a differnt ROM Image. The logic was that mabey flashing it would overwrite the lock & I couldnt possibly screw it up worse. so I purchased an AT&T SIM card from ebay and flashed the dam thing and ill be damned but when it was done it booted up and asked me for the unlock code again!! which I VERY CAREFULLY entered and now my phone works flawlessly and unlocked!! tongue.gif tongue.gif

Just thought Id share!!

There's certainly a chance the volume could just be turned all the way down, but I really doubt it. In this case is probably a loose wire, blown speaker, or some other similar problem.

I'm grateful for the response.....

I was thinking about those things as well then another occured to me. what if the headphone jack is broken in such a way that the phone still thinks theres an earbud in place. I work on PCs & laptops for a living and have seen a similar thing where people have had headphones pluged in to their laptops, remove them and then have no external sound. Could this be the case here?

Also, if the speaker was blown wouldnt make some kind of crackeling sound? If the speaker does need replaced, does anyone know where I can get one. Ive done a lil searching on the net but havent had much luck

and this might be a lil off topic, but does anyone know where t get an exploded parts view so I cansee inside and how see how it goes together

Again thanks for all the help. this site is a great resource for people looking to get help with their phones.

Hi I was just reading thru the posts and came across this one.

I recently bought a MPX220 from ebay. bought it for parts mostly, but the auction was marked "Earpiece not working." When I inquired further it was explained to me that incomming nor outgoing calls could be heard thru the earpiece. Do you think the problem you've posted about could apply here?

Thanks,

This site is very good for finding spare phone parts. It's located in China, so shipping takes a couple weeks, but you can't beat the price. I've ordered from them before, and was very satisfied. Get it while you can though, they were out of stock for a long time before they got back in stock.

I dont suppose yo know if there are any kind of custom or different color housings for the MPX200?? Sometimes I look at my phone and think that it would look much better silver...Odd I know, but never the less, true

Thanks,

Ive had a similar issue with one of mine. I thought it happend after I went lookng for a new lether case for my phone. I had allowed the clerk at the store to try a few cases on my phone and one of them she tried forcing the upper portion over the screen with considerable force. mabey it's just bad timming tho.... Wehn I took it apart, I found that my ribbon cable was damaged but I suspect mabey the LCD itself is also

If you use their service then you do need to have a SIM from any provider other than the one the phone is locked to in the phone.
If you do it through the Motorola Upgrade Wizard then you leave the SIM out.

so how do I do it thru the moto upgrade wizard?? is it as simple as installing WM2003 on it? im confused....huh.gif

Ive seen one method that wants me to make a backup of the 256kb .RAW file that supposedly contians the IMEI info so that it can be imported back after the phone is unlocked or sumthing like this...

anyways I am REALLY grateful for the help.

PopTart629.

Oh BTW howdo you tell the version or revision # of te MPX200??

thanks again! biggrin.gif

ok I looked into www.imei-check.co.uk. according to the directions you must have an activsync connectin to the phone. this implies that you must have a working sim in the phone because the phone will not boot without one. am I missing something??

help is apprieciated

You need to perform software unlock on your phone, search the mpx200 forum and you will find the solution .

Ok here's the thing.

Id love to try some of the different apps out there for my mpx. alot of them tell me that they cant work. after a little looking here, I discovered that I need to edit the registry to make the phone "application unlocked" thus being allowed to run my apps.

So I went to the net & DLd Resco File Explorer and this had a reg editor included in the package.
When I tried to edit the proper key to app unlock my phone it allowed me to change the value, but when I exit the key, it reverts back to its prievious value.

any help is appriecited

I'm not sure what you mean by properly identified. Without Activesync installed it should recognize it as new hardware. Depending on what drivers and other software you already have installed on your PC it may come up as some odd random device without Activesync there to tell the PC what it is.

look at this pic,

Attached Image

This is how the phone identified itself to windows XP when I plugged it in to the USB port. Tha t is not how devices usually ID themselves. They usually say things like "HP PHotosmart 7500 Series" or something that lets the user now what it is they have just plugged in.

I was merley curious as to why the phone is ID'd that way.

Which Activesync version do you have installed? You need Activesync 4.0 to sync with WM5 devices. It seems like you would need all 3 parts. Maybe the version you have just combined two of them or something. That may also be the problem though.

Kudos to you Smeg!! My activesync was out of date. I installed ver 4.1 from MS site and it works great.

Can anyone tell me why the phone phone wasnt properly identified by windows XP tho??

Thanks again!!

Ok, This is my first post here. I have, however, been a visitor here for some time and have found ALL of my mobile phone solutions here. Props out to all of you!! biggrin.gif

Ok I upgraded my phone today from WM2003 to WM2005. The upgrade went well (so I thought) My phone rebooted and after some searching I found out how to get sim contacts back and how to use my speaker phone again etc

My issues are these.

1. I cannot sync to my PC. Each time I connect the usb cable to it I get the "found new hardware" screen.
in the past I have never had any problems connecting to my PC but now it says this...

Attached Image

2. I cannot add voice tags anymore, tho I understand that there is a software alternative that may work if need be. Id also like to perform some registry tweaks & install some really cool apps Ive seen n the net but being unable to sync has severly dampend my endeavors to do so.

and on a side note, I am seeing posts which indicate that most builds of WM2005 for the MPX200 have 3 .img files. Im not sure if it matters or not, but the build I have only has 2. it was missing part 1.

Thanks for all the help in advance,
