I see the BlackJack II has Windows Mobile 6. With a new product it may be up to the carrier to support a WM6 upgrade on the original BJ. I hear it maybe June before a BlackJack WM6 is out.

Great... :/ Oh well, I might as well get used to my WM5 then.

Thanks for the update!

WM6. Where are we on this for the Blackjacks? Does anyone still care about this? I hope Samsung isn't trying to let people forget about this one!

Geez, I'm an idiot. Thanks!

So still no 'official' word about WM6 huh?

Here's what I believe is a complicated one...

Does anyone remember interactive text games from the 80's and early 90's? They're just that - text, and you have to type statements or whatever to make the story progress. I know, it sounds dull, compared to my new NES Emulater w/ 200+ games, but still - I really like the old interactive Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy interactive game I played on my Radio Shack Tandy 1000 SL back in the day. haha I've even found one for my MacBook, but still, I'd like to play it on my Blackjack.

Ok, I've scoured the internet and I've tried AT LEAST twenty-something text game interpreters, some that even said they were specifically for WM5 devices. But it either doesn't work, or I get a '...is not a valid Windows CE..." error message. (Yes, I have run AppUnlock!)

Has anyone ever heard of these "interpreters"? They are basically programs that run text games with a '.Z5' extension. (ie. HitchHik.Z5 for my game) The interpreter is the equivalent of SNESTER for playing Nintendo ROMs.

If anyone has a good one that they know works, or has any ideas for something I may be doing wrong, please hit me with it here!

Thanks in advance.

You need a registry editing program. I like PHM Registry Editor. Make sure you get the Smartphone version for the BJ. When you open the registry editor it'll be pretty obvious what the post above means, and further instructions won't be needed really.

Wow, my Blackjack flies through files now! Thanks! It was WAY easier than I thought. Although...I did have to use a appunlock .cab file to let me use it. Before that, I kept getting errors.

Same thing guys this tip I used on my Cingular 2125 but also works for the Blackjack.

The following tweak will increase the speed in which Windows Mobile 5 navigates through menus, programs and folders.

Using your registry editor, navigate to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS

Change "CacheSize" value from "default value" to "1024"

Change "EnableCache" value from "default value" to "1"

Navigate to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt

Change the "ReplStoreCacheSize" value from "default value" to "1024"

Navigate to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE

Change the value for "limit" from "default value" to "32768"

Now your Cingular 2125 will navigate through Windows Mobile 5 menus faster.

This sounds like a great idea, but can someone help a noob out with this? I don't know anything about registry editors...is it ON the Blackjack? Or something I have to type up on my computer and upload?

Step by step instructions or a clear laid out path would be great.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your genius!

It looks like the Sept. 17th date was not legitimate, or at there are further delays... the newest rumored date is Oct. 1. We have another 'reliable' source, again, for this information:

http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/m...ing&page=11

...and still we wait.

There is so much talk about WM5 vs WM6, well, this might be a stupid question, but how do I check which version of Windows Mobile my Blackjack is currently running?

I've used a few myself, and think the Moto S9 is the best I've tried. It's a great size, is comfortable, and has decent sound. I also have a set of Cables Unlimited headphones that Tiger Direct used to carry. They also work well, but are earbuds with cabled that go to the bluetooth clip. The Moto HT820 were pretty terrible, mostly because of their unsightly size. One I'm really interested in is the new Plantronics Voyager 855 headset/phones. Very interesting concept.

Thanks for the input Smeg! Yeah..you know when you have your heart set on a piece of tech (ie Motorola S9) it's pretty difficult to get your head around it unless you hear something REALLY bad about it. But yeah, they look like the most promising candidate to me.

Here in Ireland with the carrier O2, they don't have unlimited data options like in the US. So if I'm surfing the internet on my phone, I'm getting charged 1 Euro cent per kilobyte! So...say loading a simple page 100-200 kb (approx) and thats about 2 Euro dollars which is equal to about 3 US dollars! Yeah...due to this, I've been looking for other uses for my beautiful Blackjack. With all this said...I don't use the internet much. In the states, I used mainly the internet, and not the organization, calendar, etc. stuff. Now, it's the polar opposite. I have all my classes, timetables, assignments in the planner on my Mac and the Blackjack...it's awesome. (Sorry, I guess I'm new to the whole mobile productivity stuff!)

I don't really miss the internet, and the newly found ability for me to sync my MacBook with my Blackjack via some software (MissingSync) has me more interested in my phone now, more than ever!

Anyways, I'm rambling...but as always, thanks!

Does anyone have any input as to the best all around Bluetooth stereo headsets? I like the Motorola S9, but I'd like to see what other devices people are using and what they think of them, especially if they have any regrets about them!

Thx!

Ok sweet! Thanks, I didn't get them yet, but now I know that when I do, they'll work.

I'd like to be able to listen to the music on my blackjack without using a wired pair of headphones. With that, I'd like to use one of those snazzy new wireless EDO Stereo Bluetooth Headsets. On my girlfriends relatively new Samsung has an option in Media Player that says something to the effect of, 'Listen to music via bluetooth headset'. I don't see that anywhere on my Blackjack.

I just don't want get a pair of expensive bluetooth headsets, only to find out I can't listen to my Windows Media Player music via the headset.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help! Aside from the small note below, these settings worked just great!

For APN, I had to use the prefix 'pp.internet' since I'm an O2 Pay As You Go ('Speak Easy' accounts) The other type of monthly payment accounts use the other prefix for APN, I believe its the other one floating around here more commonly seen the pp.wap.o2.ie one - to that effect.

My Blackjack can send pictures and I can get on the internet again! woohoo!

Thanks for the help!

Hi folks,

I just moved to Ireland to attend school, and I brought with me my Samsung SGH-i670 "Blackjack" (Not to be confused with the i600, very similar, but has a front camera for cam-calls)

Now, my Blackjack IS unlocked from my AT&T/Cingular contract...and I currently use an O2 sim.

I can send/receive texts and phone calls just fine,

** BUT I am unable to send/receive MMS picture messages and access the internet **

Now, I've come across settings for mms' and the internet all over the place, but unfortunately, either none of them seem to be the same, work, or they're for the O2.CO.UK phones, not O2.ie phones.

I'm pretty sure I just need accurate settings for MMS, WAP?, WAP GPRS? internet profiles...and I'm also pretty sure I have to set up a proxy profile? (can anyone familiar with Blackjacks explain this stuff?) PAP, CHAP...yeah...it's all greek to me.

I hope I've made sense here...american windows smartphone mobile, not currently supported by O2, so I can't even have O2's website send me the automated data.

Help! I just need some settings folks. A Blackjack without picture messaging and the internet is just a phone with a day planner in it!

I'll really appreciate any help any of you can provide.

Aside from all that, can someone give me the quick and dirty on what exactly is needed to connect? Like the philosophy or theory side of it? haha For instance, in order to connect to the internet, I need to A) check my IE settings on my phone? cool.gif have a GPRS profile set up? AND C) Proxy? Do you know what I mean? All that is JUST to connect to the internet, correct? Regular text messages only need this or that...but it's separate from the GPRS/EDGE stuff?

Anyways, go ahead and ridicule me for my incompetence or donate some knowledge this way!

Thanks!
