I've had so many problems with this phone but the most pressing issue is this one.
I have downloaded the latest active sync, I have a bluetooth usb device, I'm running windows xp with Service pack 2 and my Mpx220 has the latest updates on it. Active sync refuses to "SYNC" with my Mpx220. My computer sees it though. I always see the message that pops up that says" This mpx220 will use this device as a headset" or somthing like that. Does anyone have any clue what to do? Even if It doesn't sync can anyone just help me get pictures and files to my Mpx220. Its late here and i'm a bitter and broken man... please help v_v

You have to have a com port set up in through BT on the PC, then go to Connection Settings in Activesync and set it to allow connections from that com port. Have you done that yet?

I use ActiveSync 3.8 and I tried to install a BlueTooth dongle on my laptop awhile back and I couldn't get it working. It used BlueSoleil (or, something like that) as the interface. A couple days ago, I bought and installed Jabra's BlueTooth dongle and it intalled pretty well. It uses WidComm (or, something like that).

I say it installed "pretty well"...as it was not without a hitch. As Smeg says, the COM ports need to be in agreement. I don't remember now, either the computer or the phone defaulted to COM4 and the other one defaulted to COM9. It works now that both are set to COM9.

Also, when I boot my computer I let it go until it establishes the BT network. Then, initiate the Sync from the phone not from ActiveSync on the computer. I've also found the best way to shut down the ActiveSync connection is to turn off BT on my phone and then let ActiveSync realize there is no longer a connection (this can take a minute or so). When I first started using the BT dongle I'd right-click the BT symbol in the clock tray and choose "stop the Bluetooth device" then shutdown my computer. Each time I'd reboot I'd get a warning from ActiveSync that said:

Connection Error
Microsoft ActiveSync cannot open the COM port.
To try setting up the connection again, click OK and follow the on-screen instructions.

Now, I just turn off BT on my phone and when I'm ready to shutdown my computer I close ActiveSync (and all other open programs) but leave the BT dongle alone. When I reboot, the BT symbol turns from red to white and within a short while I get the two little computers icon and a bubble pops up that says the BT network is established. No error messages this way.

Good luck!

I've done so many things with com ports its hard to rememember them all. What does your steps include, and how do I make my mpx 220 go to that com port on my phone? I don't know if/where that setting is

I don't think it is available on all ROM versions. But, if it is on your phone, you'll find it by going to settings\bluetooth\menu\COM ports\menu.

Check to see what COM port your Bluetooth is using on your computer, then match it on the phone. Or, the other way around...find out what the phone is using and match it on your computer. I think I matched my phone to my computer. But, like you, I've done a lot of tinkering lately and can't remember precisely. Sorry.

How'd I know that was gonna be the case? Hopefully somebody else has a way to get you where you want to go from where you are. The only thing I can tell you is I have the Asian 3.45 ROM and it has the COM port option. If you choose to go with this ROM, go to Omega2008's blog for help getting the language to be English. It's VERY easy to do. It sounds like you've had lots of trouble so far...this isn't that. It's very easy. Good luck!

Alternatively, you originally were willing to just be able to get files onto your phone. How about a good ol' USB data cable? That would certainly do what you want. It's not fancy, but gets it done!

Alternative to alternatively...get a card reader for the miniSD card in your phone (if you have one). Take the card out of the phone and into the card reader and into your computer. Transfer the files you want then put the card back in your phone. No sync, but at least you've got your pictures and files on your phone.
