Motorola Snatches up Good Technology By Susan Rush November 10, 2006 NEWS@2 DIRECT
Motorola is making another play in the enterprise market. The latest: Motorola is buying Good Technology for an undisclosed sum.
Given Good's wireless messaging and data access offerings, Motorola expects the purchase to extend its mobile computing capabilities and increase its overall enterprise client base.
The Good buy comes on the heels of Motorola's Symbol Technologies acquisition, which Motorola also categorized as part of its enterprise mobility push.
The acquisition builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. Motorola, for instance, already uses Good Mobile Messaging on the Motorola Q
Research analyst Jack Gold of J. Gold Associates, however, questions the viability of the purchase. "I think this is a questionable move on Moto's part. I don't think it will particularly help their device sales and I'm not sure they will be able to successfully manage this type of acquisition," Gold said in a research note. He expects Palm to feel the greatest effect from the acquisition but doubts the blow will be felt immediately.
The Motorola/Good Technology union is expected to close in the early part of next year.
