For those interested in upgrading their MPX200:

WM6.1 Standard is availlable out there and it will allow you to use more than 1 Gb SD-Card. The only downside to using more than 1 GB is that the card has to be partitioned in max. 1Gb partitions.

Firs partition is used as in WM5 or WM6 as "main memory". Second partition is seen as an additional mounted volume (like you would get if the OS didnt needed the SD-card for memory)

Cheers

Hi,

I would like to know how I can save email attachments?? When I receive a .wav file, I can play the file and save it after. But when the attachment is .jpg it just shows the picture without the option to save it on the device. I tried .mid (midi-file) as well without any success. The phone wants to play the file, but fails for some reason and I can't save the file for later use.

I can however forward any attachment, so the file are on the device. I looked where the attachments are saved, but its in some kind of database file.

Any suggestions??

I have this problem with all kind of email I can receive on the device. Hotmail, POP3 and push-mail from my exchange server. The device treats all email as equal.

The main difference is the ROM installed on the device. Hardware wise they are the exact same phone. i-mate has a better ROM and typically has better support of their phones. I personally would get the Qtek and flash the i-mate ROM on it.

Thanks. In combination with a 2 yr contract with my current service-provider I should be able the get the Qtek for free, which wasn't the case with the I-mate version.

Can you tell me the main difference between the two ROM versions?

Just to be sure: The Qtek 8500 and the Imate smartflip are the same devices??

But...I can buy a new Qtek 8500 for € 355,= and the Imate smartflip for € 449,= but for sale at www.smartphonestunts.nl. Why the price difference??

For what it's worth: I did sim-unlock my phone with the fix.img (so the less legal way to do it smile.gif ). After that I flashed my phone with different WM2003 versions and I am now running WM2005. It shows Radio version 0. I don't have any problems with either speech (gsm) or data (gprs) connections. I am using the phone for almost one year now since I unlock the phone without any problem and/or the need to use any gsm-fixes that are out there. I'm not even sure what the improvement is. Most post I read about the fix say: don't fix if it aint broken.

GIF is a standard, but THE standard? No, not where photographs are concerned. Every digital camera I own or have owned takes photos in JPEG format.

Wasn't GIF "the" standard in the 1990's?? but like we moved on from a black and white television, we moved on from 256 colors or 8 bits to 24 bits and even 32bits wink.gif

I am running WM5 on my MPX with a 1 Gb SD-card, but...I have to agree with the guys above. If you're not interested in the "latest" and "newest" features which comes at a price of a bug or two. The best OS would be WM2003.
The only "real" nice feature of WM5 is memory management. As long as there is availlable memory on either the internal memory or the SD-card which become "part" of the memory pool, programs can use it, or running programs are swapped out.

Most of the "eye-candy" you find in WM5 can be added with third party software (most freeware).

And as allready said: get the generic version which allows you to hot swap SD-cards. Not all versions of the OS did. The same goes for WM2002 BTW. WM5 doesn't allow any swapping of the SD card because the memory is expanded to include the SD card.

Yes! You can flash to any OS you want once the phone is unlocked. I got mine as a vodafone pre-paid sim-locked and use it with my KPN sim now. Flashed is to WM2003 first and later to 2005 when it came "availlable".

Flashing to wm2003 is straight-forward. For flashing to WM2005 see the different guides on this forum

I don't think you can get a lot of spare-part for this phone in the Netherlands. What you might try is buying a second phone which doesn't work anymore. There are MPX200 with all kinds of problems for sale on Marktplaats.nl (you problably know this) for around € 25,=

@ RunningTiger: I think you are right. There most be some language issue.

When someone refuses an incoming call, it's an "active" action. That is: press the red-phone button to refuse the call. This lets the provider "think" you're allready on the phone and don't want to accept the call (or switch to that incoming call). When you're doing "nothing" that "passive" action is the same as not being able to answer to the telecom provider so the incoming call is redirected to the voice-mail box or is terminated when you don't want to use the voicemail box.

So: If I want "don't refuse incoming call" I read: accept the call which is strange when you want this "when I close flip", so it must mean: "do nothing" and let the caller think I'm "away from my phone, so I'm not able to pick it up".

Either way: my answer should allow you to do all above actions.

Second: no need for a sim-manager to add or remove a single contact on the sim-card.

Sounds like you want this:

Don't answer the call when you OPEN the flip. You can do that with a reg. change. See other posts.

And/Or:

Add the contacts to the sim-card so you can see the name on the external display. The only problem with this is, that the sim-card can't store a lot of contacts.

To reply to the second question:

ONLY the names/numbers on the SIM-card are displayed on the external display. Just copy the most frequent used numbers/names to the simcard and the name will be displayed!!

Mircosoft released a redistributable .Net compact framework version 2.0 a few months ago.

See: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

I installed this on the MPX200 running WM2005 but it should run fine on the 2003 versions. So far only programs specifically build with v2 in mind run faster compared with the same program build for v1.

The unit-convertions program you mentioned doesn't need CF.NEt v2. I just ran the cab file directly on the mpx200 and it installed and runs fine. The program was designed for wm2003 and should have worked with CF.net version installed on the rom. (either 2003 or 2005 rom)

The official v2 update (no beta!!) can be downloaded directly from microsoft and works like a charm. and there is no need to reboot!!

Hi DrBrains,

You mentioned finding s/ware for WM5, I'm unable to find a free/cheap and simple unit converter, I was using Jiminez Romano's for 2003 but it won't run,[ excuse me Jiminez if I've got your name wrong] most of the converters are much too complicated with currency thrown in as well, all I want is length weight temperature and volume, my 2003 alarm prog. failed as well and have bought Oxios, works a treat.

Thanks,
Max.

I tried the program you refer to. It's by Romeo M. Jimerez and it runs just fine on the MPX200 with WM2005. I downloaded the cab file and run it on the phone (how else). I will see if there is something better. I'll get back to you on this.

Depends on what kind of software you want, but yes, more available for PPC than for smartphone...but if what you need is available, then no real reason to not consider the smartphone platform unless you want a bigger screen, touch-screen and stylus, and wifi...if any of those three are important for you, then consider the S200...otherwise, if the software you need is available, the 8500 is way smaller and easier to use as a one-handed device.

Chris

I have decided: I'm waiting for the Qtek 8500 to become availlable here in the Netherlands. The S200 is in stores for quite some time now, but the 8500 still isn't. Wifi was one feature I would have liked to have on my mobile device, but... it's most likely that i'll be using a "normal" laptop with wifi when a hotspot or a wireless network (home or work) is availlable. I have glanced at the mio A701 because it has a build in GPS receiver, but it's size is even larger then the S200.

Don't forget: the main function of the device is still: phone!! and second: camera, calendar, navigator etc... so the choice is: go with a phone: a smartphone that is!!

I'm using a MPX200 with the unoffical WM5 ROM and I like it a lot.

I'm looking for a new phone with all the main features I have now but it should have bluetooth (and wifi would be nice). I can't decide which is better the Qtek 8500 which comes very close to the phone I'm used to: slightly higher, but tinner and a keyboard. Or.. the Qtek S200 which is more a PPC then a smartphone.

The only reason I can think of for getting the S200 over the 8500 would be that it is a PPC and there would be more software availlable (or is there??)

On my desktop of mpx200 it dont show my operator name (it calls "oi") only show the code 72431. Can I rename?
Thanks
Leo

Yes you can:

If you point your Registry Editor at:

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/RIL/OperatorNames

You should see that it's empty.

If you create a string entry with the name being your operators network number (e.g. Orange are 23433), the operator name for that operator will then appear as whatever you enter in.

I've seen a few people post that same problem. It appears to have been left out of the WM5 build for the MPx200. I haven't seen any solutions for it yet either.

You missed this one Smeg36. You even replied to the answer wink.gif

see :

make sure you switch off and then back on before reg. modifications like this work.

This is what I'm using :-
Windows mobile 5
OS 5.1.1700 (build 14343.0.0.0)
Radio version 0.810.

Just remembered that storage is what I named my SD card for 2003

When installing WM2005 the SD is reformatted. It gets a label (volume ID) of TFAT. The SD card is combined with the internal memory of the phone. This is why you can't remove the card anymore with the phone one. (the OS will miss systemfiles). You can change cards but you have to reboot the phone.

The Radio version I have is 0 but that should not make a difference with A/S or other file transfers.

I have SigmaTel USB-IrDA Adapter on my PC and work fine. When I try to activesync with my mpx200 (Start\Activesync\Menu\Connect via IR), phone can't find my PC. When I try to copy something to PC (Explorer\Menu\Send to\Infrared Recipient) then I found my PC on phone, but then I have an error:
"cannot connect to the OBEX device. It Is either not accessible or does not support selected service".
How to synchronize my phone with PC?
Thanx

I have tried to connect my MPX200 to my laptop using IR. It works!! It's slow...very slow; but it works if you don't have a usb port availlable and need to sync data or transfer some file.

Make sure that the PC side allows connections from the IR-port. Connection-settings in ActiveSync. It's "off" by default.

I don't understand why you should want to use a USB->IrDa adapter to connect to your phone when you can just connect it directly to the USB port on your PC... Reliable and faster.

And you are correct that you can't send files over "directly" using send to IR recipient. The phone is recognized as modem.

Looks like our posts crossed.

Are you sure you have WM2005?? there is no such folder as "storage" not using a card-reader of using A/S when you do a clean install. I had to make one for tomtom!

Hi Dr,
Typical, can't check at the moment, just put my phone on charge, what I couldn't appear to do was scroll down to \accessories and add a sub folder \to install, could do it using the card reader but A/S didn't show accessories.

Will check again later this morning.

"accessories" are in the \windows\accessories folder. But mine is empty. I have several "accessories" but they all show up under program files and then have a short-cut in the accessories start menu. Place shortcuts in: \windows\start menu (or even in it's sub folder accessories).

I have installed the original file manager that come with the phone on CD. It works on wm2002, wm2003 and wm2005. Maybe not the best manager but its free and came with the phone. The MMS program that's also on the CD does NOT work.

When installing programs I normally use the windows installer version, or copy over the program.cab file to "my documents" and run it from there. The phone takes care of the rest and I can delete the cab file from the phone after installation. The only program I had to copy to a specific location was Tomtom Mobile which is picky about it's location and is...well...a backup version biggrin.gif I use without GPS since our phone doesn't have Bluetooth but it functions great as route-planner and with the 5+ versions you can manual step thru the navigation-plan.

If you're looking for a specific program, let me know (PM me). I have done my share of google-ing and found a lot of nice free and/or trail programs.
