The Ben-Q Quad-Band P50 is a nifty looking device. The lusting for it started about a year ago when it was first announced. A year on, it arrives into a market teaming with competitive alternatives. Still, it really does look marvelous.

A few highlights...

Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003
Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz)
Intel PXA272 416MHz
64MB of SDRAM and 64MB of Flash ROM.
2.83-inch QVGA TFT LCD touchscreen display (resolution of 240x320 pixels)
1.3-Megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom
WLAN, GPRS, Bluetooth, IrDA, USB, and SDIO
Measures 122x60x20mm
Weight 170g

I remember the first time I saw this phone. I nearly crapped my pants with excitement. And if they would have released it within 6 months or so, I would have jumped on it. It just took to long to get to market. The processor seems sort of slow, it has WM2003, and there is no EDGE or UMTS. It looks like a great piece of hardware, they just took too long. There are too many options with WM5 and high speed EDGE, UMTS, or EVDO.

If they add Edge and Mobile 5 I would buy this in a second. Ooooh the heck why don't we add quadband and then we have my dream device biggrin.gif

Well. I think the spec. indicates this is a Quad phone... I agree about WM 5.0. I wouldn't want to but it based on the hope that an upgrate would be created, but you never know...

Mobile Review has a very good review of the Siemens/BenQ P50. If you're looking at this PDA/Phone, you ought to check it out. It looks like the performance on this device is better generally than HTC Magician device.

"After two weeks of active use and tests of Siemens/BenQ P50 as the main phone we can say the following. We liked the device, it is solid and proportional, it has nice design, its weight and dimensions are appropriate for comfortable use. Using its keyboard you can quite compose not long letters in English."

Learn more about the Siemens/BenQ P50, here.
