Any more info on this phone? This looks great! I have a mpx 220, but the low speaker volume ruins it. I can barely use it while driving or in a bar.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. Similar size to the RAZR, and manufactured by HTC, who in my opinion is one of the best manufacturers out there.

I am drooling over the potential of this phone. I am a Star Trek fan though not a crazy Trekkie. I only have been to only one convention but I own about sixty-five episodes of The Next Generation & Deep Space Nine (on laser discs and DVD respectively) as well as four or five epiodes of the original show.

I used to present a lot of jazz concerts and at one time I had a jazz club in a hotel in Atlanta. James Doohan (Scotty) was in town for a convention. He was having a drink in the club prior to the show. He hung out the whole night. He was a great guy who recently passed.

I use some of the sounds of Star Trek & Hal from 2001 on my phone and PDA. I definitely want to like this phone. We shall see.

any updates on this phone?

I am too spoiled to use any other phone that doesn't sync as well with outlook and I want a flip phone.

The volume on my mpx220 sucks and I need to move on.

An updated Smart thin flipper with WM5 would be a great seller.

I agree. This could be the phone / design that seriously breaks Windows Mobile into mainstream acceptance, as long as the price point is not too high (I'm guessing around the same price as the Cingular 8125). Of course, the phone will need a new name... rolleyes.gif But phone companies in the US are now branding these devices themselves, so maybe this will be known as the "Cingular 5000" or something like that.

It looks like the first implementation of the HTC "Star Trek" will be the "i-mate Smartflip." If history is any indicator of future behavior, this will go on sale direct from i-mate relatively soon after the annoucement. American carriers may pick up the phone, but I'm speculating only after about 4 or 5 months - so, maybe September...

I wonder how much it will retail for? This is a much needed replacement for the mpx220. Too bad it will probably take forever to get to america! oh well..

Yep, if i-mate has it there will be a way to get it in the US. It has been a long time coming for another flip Smartphone. I don't understand why they are almost all candybar. I would think, based on looking around when I'm out anywhere, that flip is by far the more popular style.

Qtek S200 - Colors
SmartphoneThoughts has spotted a story in PocketPcItalia on the much-anticipated Qtek S200 (HTC Star Trek) that shows some rather interesting pictures of this oh-so-cool new Windows Mobile phone.

First, look at that exterior screen. Does that look like coolness, or what? Also, do you notice that the phone is not black?

Am surprised no one has commented on its use of MicroSD, considering HTC has supported SD/mini-sd:

Flash memory primer:
CF is dimensionally out of the question...
Memory Sticks are too expensive...
Nobody knows what a SmartMedia card is...
xD went the way of the SmartMedia card...
SD was a tad big for shrunken devices, so they came up with...
The Mini-SD!

Now transflash/MicroSD?

Anyone as fed up as I am that you have more memory card formats than you know what to do with? I appreciate that mini-SDs have the SD adaptor, but what about going small-form to small-form (i.e. miniSD fitting into microSD slots and vice versa). It would be great if were wrong about the incompatibility of these two small-form flash formats -PLEASE someone tell me I don't have my facts straight!- but I don't think I am...

And just as soon as mini-SD prices were coming down...

My Samsung A920 came with a transflash card. The things are tiny but it came with an adapter so I can read it on my SD reader. You reach a point where what does smaller buy you - harder handling, easier loss? I have not tried the trans in another device with the adapter but it works fine reading on the PC. I will SD test when I have some time.

Yea, you are right about all the flash formats...it's aggravating...pick one and stick to it, but I guess as things get smaller, OEMs want smaller memory to help get the size of their equipment down...

The prices will drop when the Sandisk 2gb micro-sd hits the market in the next few months...same thing as when the 2gb mini-sd hit...I was stupid and bought a 1gb mini-sd b/c i was sick of waiting on the 2gb...paid like $70 or something...then, 2 weeks later the 2gb finally (after delays out the wazoo) hit, and it hit at barely over the 1gb price, so the 1gb dropped to $50 and now some are even $30ish w/ a rebate.

You just can't win can ya' ! ! ! ! !

Anyway...back to the flip...I honestly can hardly wait for this phone...I'll be buying one from the first importer that comes out w/ one...I mean Cingular may carry it (based on some speculation from an Engadget article today where an HTC exec was interviewed)...but by the time they get it and make it look stupid, I think I'll opt for an earlier purchase from an importer...it may cost me $500, but at least it won't have Cingular stamped across it and EDGE disabled...(haha, Edge comment was sarcasm, but not too far from the truth).

Here are some pictures of the Dopod implementation of the HTC Star Trek. Dopod call their device the S300. The S300 went on sale in Taiwan mid-April 2006.
