QUOTE (danrw84 @ Mar 1 2006, 12:14 PM) *
Hello everyone.
I am considering buying the 8125 tomorrow at cingular, unlocking it, and using it with my AT&T wireless service.
I dont want to re-sign a contract right now, and I have an AWESOME plan with the old AT&T.
My question is, what will, and will not work with this phone? I take it the data services (email, internet etc) wont work unless im using the WiFi.
Anyone have any expierence or thoughts?
Thanks in advance, look forward to replies.

Dan

I have an unlock i-mate K-Jam and using it with my old ATTWS service. I can see my Yahoo Mobile (Mail, Messenger, Search, Sports, etc) and MSN Mobile (also Mail, etc) via GPRS or Wi-Fi. But I cannot connect to mMode or sign up/use MMS. I guess MMS is not supported in the old ATTWS network anymore, one way for Cingular to force ATTWS users to move to Cingular which I'd be foolish to do because I have a great ATTWS plan. Hope this help.

First off I would get Sprite and use that to back everything up, but in the event that Sprite doesn't backup that .dll (it should).  You should also copy it to your SD card so in the event you need to reset you can just use file manager to copy it over to the needed directory and you should be all set.  That way incase you need to reset and you are on the road or away from your computer you won't be stuck with a locked phone.

Thank you sir for the advice.

Yeah I tried it! My formerly UNLOCKED phone is now LOCKED! Don't do it!!!!

I know the PPC4100 is old news around here, but I bought an ATT version of the device for $178 delivered at eBay. It was advertised as unlocked. It was locked when i got it. The seller sent me a .dll file which I copied into the PPC's Windows directory replacing an old one. This unlocked the device allowing me to use my ATT and Cingular sims. The bad part of this is that whenever I do a hard reset (or the backup battery ran out of juice) I have to copy the file again.

The device is not bad at all. It gets good reception caparable to my SMT5600. I wish it has a keypad. I am looking to get another one for me. My girlfriend has been using it the last few days and she likes it and decided to keep it for herself. I guess she'll give me back my old MPx200.

Cingular stores don't have them and apparently they stock for new contracts is low too. Wondering where you guys have bought your SMT5600: a different carrier, ebay?

Ebay. $178.00 delivered. Sim locked to ATT but Florin unlocked it for me.

Same here. My AT&t SMT5600 purchased from eBay 3 months ago is eligible. I just downloaded a copy of the software.

Hi Mr. Slacker,

Thank you for your excellent review of PocketDVD. I was about to start searching for a product like this. You save me lots of time and energy.

Unfortunatly, the cost of a GSM/GPRS CF card is pretty high.  For the amount you are going to be paying to get one, it is just easier, and much more fun, to get a really good bluetooth cell phone and connect through that.  That is what I am doing with my SMT5600 and X50v on T-Mobile with the unlimited internet plan.

Thank you very much for your response. I checked the Enfora card. It should work for me but at $229 plus tax and shipping, it's is something I can't afford at this time. I guess I have to carry both my Audiovox SMT5600 and Axim x50v. Thanks again, guys.

Does anyone know of a decent, reasonably priced GSM/GPRS Type II CompactFlash card for pocket pc? I have a new Dell Axim 50v and I want to see if it can handle my voice and data needs with an appropriate gsm/gprs card. Voice communication is not that important to me (I carry my cellphone just so I can make or receive calls when needed), email and messaging (sms, mms) are. Thanks.

On the MPx200, the removable knob (or pin) is a plus for me. Sometimes, I just want to put my cellphone in my pocket. It feels better inside the pocket without the knob . The MPx220 case description does not say if the knob is removal. Hopefully it will be.

my mpx200 was unlocked in less than 5 minutes without any problem. just follow the unlocking direction which is very, very simple and you won't have any problem.

elhrisse, go to the Firmware Request forum (http://www.mpx200.org/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewforum&f=39), read sean's announcement and the sticky then make your request for a copy of the generic ROM from Mr. Slacker.

Abatis, thanks for the advice. Considering all the issues they have at another forum that I've been following(blurry text and many others) I think i'll stay with the generic ROM.

hI aLL, The firmware updates for MPx200 has gotten me in a state of confusion. There is the Motorola generic ROM (thanks to Slacker for a copy of it), and now the WM2003 which is being distributed by MSMobiles.com. Is it necessary to install the generic ROM from Motorola before installing WM2003? Thanks for clarifying this for me.

Firmware Re-request

I have been closely monitoring my hotmail account since I requested the firmware in April 24th, but have not seen a copy of it yet. My guess is that you have sent it but my account couldn't handle the size of it. I am posting my account which has lots of free space. Please send the firmware to this account. Thank you very much.

Help. MPx 200 has predictive texting, but it does not seem to have a "hit list" of words whose number combination are similar. For example 4-6-6-3 translates to "good" "home", 2-6 "an" "am", etc. If you have used a SE T616, you know that a hit list is displayed whenever a number combination produces more than one word from which you can select the word you want to use.Does anyone know if this is available in the MPx 200? I am tired switching from t9 to multitap and vice-versa.Thanks.

I ordered a copy of the basic model on 3/30/04. At that time, they had a production time of 15 days (its now 30 days). I emailed today to check when they might ship, the answer was "i'll check with the production department." That was this morning. It's now 4:00 pst, no response yet. I try emailing again tomorrow.

Does anyone know the status, if any, of ROM upgrade to Smartphone 2003 for the MPx200? I read from MSmobile, http://msmobiles.com/news.php/2360.html, that this upgrade exist? Thanks.
