They've been selling it for a month or so now, haven't they? My uncle is getting one through his work, so I will have to do a side by side with my Samsung i730 next time I get together with him. I don't know if I like the landscape keyboard of the 6700 or the portrait keyboard of the i730 better. The i730 can be used one handed, such as for dialing phone numbers, but the 6700 gives you more overall area. It looks like a cool device, I'll have to check one out at a Sprint store sometime.

Price on the Sprint website for this is $599 with $150 "instant savings" to bring it to $449.

Hmm...

And what do you think compared to all those GSM devices you have? Does Sprint have EVDO in your area? EVDO is the only reason I can't return to GSM anytime soon. And all the sweet new WM devices seem to be coming out on CDMA first.

Ok, just bought a Sprint PPC6700 a couple hours ago. First order of business is connecting to WiFi. All the acces points in the area show up (including the one in my apartment), but I can't establish a connection with any of them. I know I have no security setup on my access point, so what's the deal?

Is this a "b" vs. "g" problem here? My access point is a "g-only" linksys...what's this phone got? Anybody know? Not finding much in the manual (suprise), Sprint site, or the forums here at first glance...

It is B. I don't think any WM devices have G in them yet. I remeber reading about an upcoming device with G in it, but not anytime soon. You would have to turn on B/G on the router to get it working.

Hmmm... you don't need wifi to do that, but it maybe works better.

Well, I think you have raised a good point. I was resisting buying a data plan until yesterday I realized that I didn't get decent WiFi coverage in my gym, meaning that I couldn't listen to internet radio. So I called Sprint and had them turn on the EVDO. At first glance, EVDO is pretty decent. Not as fast as WiFi, but it seemed to do the job. I was able to stream WBUR (my local NPR station) over EVDO, so that's good. However, I ran into problems trying to stream my other main music site, TotallyRadio.com. Seems that I cannot listen to the audio streams from this site when using EVDO. Bummer.

So there it is. EVDO works, but it isn't WiFi. Of course, my experience is limited to Boston. Seems like there are 1.5 wireless routers per person in this city. I'm not sure how the EVDO network stacks up against other locals.

- yeah, I have EV-DO coverage everywhere I go in the SF Bay Area. Even w/one bar I'm getting speeds that are blowing my GSM devices away - even though I have EDGE in my area, my K-JAM and JASJAR rarely picks those speeds up.

MobileTechReview have a deep review of Sprint's PPC 6700: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/Sprint-PPC-6700.htm

This device is similar to the Verizon XV 6700.
