i love my new sda, but im not much of a techie. i am sure that someone who reads about this stuff can help me with this question, though, or at least i hope:
- how do i reset the t zones shortcut button? or at the very least, if i am happy for it to open up internet explorer, how do i get it NOT to go to my tmobile? i assume this has something to do with registry editing (not that i know what that means)
- also, activesync 4.1 says it is syncing my "favorites" folder, but i cant tell where that is on the pc. i would love to be able to make favorite websites on the desktop and sync them to pocket ie. any thoughts on how to do that?
thanks for the help in advance
Your mobile favorites that get synced over can be added and removed through IE on your PC. You can browse to a website, create a favorite, then drag and drop it from your favorites list into the Mobile Favorites folder.
As for IE opening to the T-Mobile page, that would require a reg hack I think. I'm not sure where it would be though, I haven' ever even seen a SDA. Try going to HK_CU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer and poking around to see if you can find a homepage setting anywhere.
So the IE going to T-Zones isn't just the Homepage setting in IE? You can't change Home? IE>Tools>Options> Use Current? I need to get over to T-Mo and check this phone out.
Smartphones (at least every one I've tried) don't have the option to set the homepage.
I set the Homepage on my Voq to Accuweather. It is in the IE client, "USE Current"
I think that is unique to the Voq. There are many things the Voq does that other Smartphones can't. The MPx200 and i600 I have sitting in front of me right now don't have the option to set a homepage anywhere. I assume the SDA is the same, although as I said I've never used one.
Yes, Smeg you are correct, I checked it out, I was using the VOQ navigator button.
I just wanted to say thanks for the help; i got the IE favorites to sync which was great. as for the tzones button, thats still incredibly annoying, but hopefully one day a solution will come out. if it does, and someone sees it, please post! or email me
I assume you have the SDA User Manual on a CD and have tried searching in there, but just in case you don't, here's a link to the http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=11082.
Hi,
I found this on the MoDaCo forums. I haven't tried it myself, but they're using the button to point to a different program. I'm pretty sure you can change the value to whatever, or possibily just link it to PIE as if you just clicked on the shortcut.
Anyway, here's the link http://www.modaco.com/T_Mobile_SDA_T_Zones_Key-t202906.html.
i read through the thread, and it looks like this doesnt work for the us version (most of these posts are for the european sda). regardless, it seems like you need a "registry editor" to do this, and i dont know what that is or where to get one. can anyone help me out with that?
thanks so much everyone
You can get PHM Registry Editor http://www.airfagev.com/utilities/regedit.cab. It is fairly straightforward to edit if you have directions of where you need to go in the registry.
i cant seem to get the file to download- i downloaded it to my computer, it says its compressed, but it wont unzip. thinking maybe i should put it on the phone, i put it on the mobile, but it doesnt show up in file explorer. what am i doing wrong?
thanks so much! you all are an awesome help
Place the file on your phone in say the Temp file and click on it. It should execute. No extraction required.
Hmm... I found a better link:

To summarize, there are little shortcuts in the \Windows folder with "Short_" and "Long_" prefixes. These correspond to the buttons on the phone. If you look for "Short_AP1" when you explore the \Windows folder in your smartphone, you can see the shortcut points to "\Windows\iexplore.exe http://my.tmobile.com".
If you remove the http://my.tmobile.com part, the button will open up a blank PIE, but this is the tricky part. The file in the phone is read-only. From reading that thread, it seems like people had to decert their phone or something to be able to un-tick the read-only option in the file's properties. I might have in the process of unlocking my phone today, so I'm not sure.
Well, here's what I did:
1. Explore to \Windows on my computer and copied the "Short_AP1" to my desktop.
2. Opened up the file in notepad and took off the "http://my.tmobile.com" part and saved the file.
3. Went to the file manager in the phone and went to \Windows. As a default, you don't see all the files in the folder, so you have to go to the options, under Menu and un-tick all the boxes under "File browser settings."
4. Located "Short_AP1" and looked at its properties (again under Menu softkey).
5. Un-ticked the "Read Only" box.
6. Copied the altered "Short_AP1" file from the desktop to the \Windows folder on my computer.
And there you have it. Now, when I press the T-Zones button, it goes to PIE's favorites folder instead of my.tmobile.com. I hope this works for you.
When you boot up your phone do you loose the changes? The Windows folder if the ROM of the phone, and it writes itself every time it boots. Have you tried powering the phone off and back on to see what happens? If it does get erased you will have to find the registry value that points to that file, place the file anywhere but the Windows folder, and set the registry to link to the new file.
So if you replace the http://my.tmobile.com with a different website, say http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com does it open that site instead of the favorites folder? That is what I would prefer if I was using a SDA.
ok, im having the problem mentioned above- cant seem to get the "read only" box to stay unclicked in the SHORT file- everything else looks good tho. did you say all you had to do to get that to happen was unlock the phone? who unlocked it, tmobile, the manufacturer, or a program online? carrier or device unlock?
ok thanks for everything
p.s. i finally got reg edit installed, though it looks like i wont need it...yet
That's good to know. It must have something to do with the changes memory allocation that WM5 uses. Thanks for posting back your experiences after a soft reset (power cycle)
