QUOTE (Matthew2K3MP5 @ Feb 5 2005, 11:21 PM) so if i have an ATT simcard already, i could plug it right in to the 220? Yes, that's correct. However, the MPx220 has been sold. Thanks. |

More than likely the rep has no idea what they got at the distribution center, all they will do is to put through an order for the MPx220 to be sent to you. You can always try but discussing F/W with these reps is not something I care to do even when I have absolutely nothing to do |

mbhelfman, just FYI re TMo's OTA configurator, I told you it worked with my 5600, and today soon as I rec'd back my 220, I used the same configurator to send the strings to the 220, soon as I clicked SEND from the web site, my 220 just "woke up" but never displayed the screen where I need to enter the PIN, w/o the ability to authenticate, I never got the settings pushed onto the 220. Looks like there's a layer of security somewhere on the 220, not sure if this is all the time or just with the 1.3 F/W (this is already after I decertify the security).
In any case, went to the 19.99 plan and back in biz. |

The OTA didn't fix the problem, sorry to have misled you. I was just messing around in desperation I don't really need the 19.99 plan for the most part, but I also need to do a bit more than justing getting pop mail. At this point, I'm just suspecting they may be having some network configuration issue instead of intentionally shutting down certain ports and/or protocol.
As for the authentication code, once you have completed the selection (handset type, WAP, Internet, MMS), then you provide your mobile # and hit send, it comes back with an authentication code (4 digit), you will then get a message on your handset asking for the same code shortly. Once entered, the settings are provisioned OTA, and then a confirmation via SMS. |

mbhelfman, I tried it & I got an OTA message asking me to input the authentication code given on the web site, then I got a SMS indicating that the settings has been configured. I checked an sure enuf, the new settings are there under data connections, though I'm testing the OTA on a 5600 as my 220 is with MOT right now. |

It has nothing to do with the file attributes being set to hidden, there's something going on with the Mini-SD I/O on the 220, files/folders may appear to be there and would disappear when you refresh. I never noticed such a behavior with the .325 F/W but have seen it quite often with .342. |

QUOTE sclui56,
You have any ideas about the thread I posted on the keyboard backlighting issue... Do you know a way to make the keyboard backlight stay on longer than 5 secs? 15 or so would be so much better when you are trying to navigate a voicemail system in the dark... Thought I'd ask as you are into the Reg hacks and stuff??
Sorry to disappoint you, I'm not really into reg hack, just read a lot of different forums I am also looking to increase the KB backlight time myself, but there's no such info as of yet. There gotta be a value somewhere inside the registry, but I haven't been able to find it and the regedit is not too stable (especially on my 220, couldn't even go back in to change the banner back to default). I may spend some time on the 5600 but first I need to be able to export the registry, so far I have yet to complete that. must be something within 2003SE. |

It's not totally hopeless. Traditionally we can manipulate by using a regedit, or via explorer on the PC. Unfortunately, the 2003SE has introduced some safeguard and requires privilege.
For some reason the regedit behaves very differently on the 220 (still works fine on the SMT5600) so you can’t rely on that. However, all is not lost because you can use the built-in File Manager to move or delete ROM links. |

QUOTE Great tip sclui56. I geuss it is not widely known because the Voq is rock solid and does not need hardsets to repair poor programming and engineering like some of the others we see.
You are absolutely correct in this statement, this is the first time I need to do a hard reset on the Voq myself.... Ongoing nightmare with the 220 F/W... yikes |

Glad you got it working, mine is working with DNS. What I meant earlier is that if you didn't delete the preconfigured connection to Cingular, that may be the first deafult connection it was trying to make. But it's a moot point as you're up & running, not "running" back to BB |

Cortez, please don't take this in a weird way, but is it possible the unit is set to use the imbedded Cingular connection first? |

Not sure if this was posted before, but I couldn't find it anywhere whenI I searched for it. I have decided to sell to the A11, and am keeping the SMT5600 + MPx220 (for now):
How to perform a hard reset.
Question:
How do I perform a hard reset on my phone
Answer:
At times you may wish to reset you Voq Professional phone back factory settings or after performing a VoqUpdate, the Voq Professional Phone needs to have a IPSM (Intel Persistent Storage Manager - Personal User Storage) reset, also known as hard reset. This will insure that proper memory configuration is taken effect.
** WARNING: **
Performing a hard reset will remove data connection settings, third-party applications, user configured settings, contacts, calendar schedules, files, and will reset the VoqProfessional Phone to pre-configuration stage. i.e factory defaults.
Make sure that you have synchronized your files, contacts, emails, favorite urls, etc. As well, gathered your account information from your network operator.
The steps to perform
While the Voq Professional Phone turned off, remove the battery and then reinstall.
Flip-open QWERTY thumbpad.
Press and hold space key and simultaneously press and hold On/Off button until the Voq Professional Phone turns turns on completely (approximately 5 - 10 seconds). The space key and On/Off button may be released after a blue screen will appear stating
Factory Reset Mode!!!
Erasing flash...
<counting> Percent
Do not interrupt the Factory Reset until the Home screen appears. (approximately 3 minutes) |

Thanks for the additional info. I do have the current version (not the one they are releasing in few days). I did run into a bit of trouble when restoring a tested & proven backup onto my MPx220 when it came back after F/W flash. Not sure if that's what they're talking about though. |

What seems to be the problem? I was able to install & execute the version I bought 2 weeks ago on the unlocked 5600. |

It's not just on the 5600, it's also true on the MPx220, may be it's one of the changes in the SE. In any case, you could do a whole lot more with the nuil-in File Manager in terms of moving ROM-related files, links, etc. than you normally could with AS, as you have found out. The Registry also appears to require certain privileges in certain words/valuse.
Things are much simplier before the SE in terms of customization... |

mbhelfman, wishing you good luck. You'll get some canned responses, if that didn't satisfy you, you will be notified that it's being escalated, then mysteriously, your case will be "resolved", and about the same time you should get a customer satisfaction survey email. Happened to me 2x and one case lasted nearly 1 month. I was informed that the closure was due to system glitches at their end, what a wonderful help desk system for the lazy sort - tickets get closed on their own, wow wee.
I am not trying to tell you not to write, but just don't hold your breath on this one. |

Mine failed, it was just habging f=before getting to the oprion to check/uncheck. FWIW, I did two test restores successfully before flashing, oh well, it's better in a long run to do a clean reinstall, but I don;t feel better especially I spent the $30 for the S/W... Which BTW has never failed me on the PPC platform. |

QUOTE What's annoying is, there is no official word about a recall to us. We It really should be Motorola's responsibility since they manufactured the phone.
There may never be since Moto is still telling customers that the handset is fine. The recall is more a BB action as they must be dealing with unusually high % of returns. |

I had actually decided to drop Brian Dunn @ BB an email about the inconsistency of their policies, I am not tryong to put the blame on them, just looking for some "standard" procedure in the MPx220 situation. Now if you get a chance to look at the 5600m, there's a separate sub folder under START titled Configurations, under which you will see 4 items:
1. BT SerialPortSetup
2. CSD Line Type
3. GPRS Authentication
4. MMS Settings
Perhaps different manufacturer has a standard load to work with, and they pick & choose the other modules, some 3rd party no doubt. But thanks for the encouraging news though on your successful exchange.
One reason I probably never recognize the 1st call B/T bug is that I have always first thing in the morning to 611 just to make sure my B/T connection is solid, been doing that for over a year now with various handsets & headsets, now I can see why it could be a problem. |

B/T GPS - that's not as much as a bug as an omission, it just didn't have the B/T serial configuration utility in the .325 nor the .342 build. Good that you were able to get yours swapped, the Best Buy I visited didn't want to hear about it the minute they found out it's "outside of the 30 days". Guess I need to send this 2nd unit to Moto like I did before
Camera Well, I don't think they can ever improve a lousy piece of component with any amount of s/w tweaking. |
