QUOTE (mkestu @ Feb 11 2005, 02:24 PM) They say it won't work with Microsoft Mobile OS. Anyone have a work-around? http://www.garmin.com/products/gps10/To my last knowledge the MPx220 lacks the BT serial support for BT GPS. I am curious myself to see if someone has managed a work around on that very issue.

While doing a search I came across this, I am not totaly sure if this works for the MPx 220 but it does mention it like it would be. http://mightygps.com/Manufacturer/smartphonecopilot.htm

QUOTE (GrYph0n @ Feb 12 2005, 03:05 AM) Well I got a $120 BT GPS unit off of eBay and use it with Mapopolis on my SMT5600, and that works out flawlessly. I am currently beta testing new versions of mapopolis for a new release. I must say it is much more promising but there are still some slight issues to work out. Once the final release is out, I will be updating my review to reflect GPS usage on a smartphone... Did you check out the one that says it works with the MPx 220, I posted a link in this thread......Do you know if it really works?

No clue if it will actually work or not, I don't have an MPx220 at the moment, nor do I have the money to get another GPS for that price

It requires a computer to connect to, and is not capable of having something connect to it as a client.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php...15&pagenumber=2some info. "I got the GPS unit with my MS S&T 2005 (on the right) and bought the bluetooth adapter (on the left) and I was up and running no problem. " " The GPS reciever came bundled with MS S&T 2005 (included a usb cable to connect to your computer) price was $130, but I saw it over the holidays for cheaper. The bluetooth adapter was $100 with 20 dollar mail in rebate. It came with a USB charging cable that has two outputs, one for the adapter, and one for your PDA. So basicly a GPS solution for about $200. Now I've been doing some research into the Copilot for smartphone which looks to be more of what I'm looking for and Bengleboy seems to love the copilot software, but just the software is $250. For now I will make due with the MS S&T. Maybe eventually I will get the copilot." - Cingtel

The page indicates the USB connects to a PDA, not a smartphone. And I would venture to guess that MS developed the GPS as a host, knowing it would have to connect to client only devices. I would be interested to see if anyone got this working with the USB connection on any smartphone.

How is the MS interface? I'm a Garmin dealer so I get special pricing. But they don't make what I need. I guess I'll look into the MS.
Thanks

I got an AmbiCom BT GPS and got it working with MS S&T. Had no problems setting it up. I'm pleased with the somewhat limited results of the software.

Well, S&T on the phone, with a GPS will only show you where you are. You can't set up a route to follow, there are no visual ou audio prompts on turns and so on. You can set up a push pin, and visualize your way to your point, see where you are, but you won't get guided to your destination. It has helped me though when I was in a neighbourhood I didn't know, I could see what way the freeway was, and proceed that way, but that's it.
I just downloaded Mapopolis, the demo version, and it looks incredibly promissing. But I haven't been able to set up my BT GPS to work with it. But I'll work a litlle bit more on it, see if I can find a solution...

I guess it depends on what you mean by "works."
You can pair the GPS10 with the MPx220 by using the snsrcfg software provided with the GPS10 to change it from Garmin mode to NMEA mode and the GPS will then work with any 3rd party apps that use an NMEA GPS such as MS S&T.
However, the Garmin Que software won't run on a SmartPhone since it requires touchscreen input.

GPS10 working sweet. Mapopolis a little disappointing, map detail around water (lakes oceans etc..) very vague.
Only other issue is the BT Com port keeps defaulting to Auto-Detect, which locks up the port when I try to start the GPS and I have to restart the app and set it Com6.
No problems now that I'm running 3.46, thanks Omega....
