Mobile Gadget News :: Making Your Mobile Life Simpler _ Motorola MPx220 _ install windows mobile 2005 on MPx220

Posted by: b:z Nov 23 2005, 11:19 AM

i have MPx220 running windows mobile 2003. I got windows mobile 2005 (5) today and follow some instruction that i found on Internet, i tried to upgrade it. However i met trouble with the step:
- Perform a normal reset by pressing the reset button the connect device to an AC power source via the cradle/cable.
--> How can i do as the request of Pocket PC Software Update Ultility? Where is the reset button? I only can find the power button on MPx220.

Continue with normal mode (without doing requestion above), the Pocket PC Software Update Ultility (PPSUU) also take me to "erase progress", but it stop with error message.

--> Does windows mobile 2005 (5) support MPx220? or Can MPx220 can run windows mobile 2005?

Please help me solve this problem. Or please give me the detail instruction how to install windows mobile 2005 on MPx220.

Thank you very much.

Well...a normal "soft" reset is just power cycling the phone. I think you're try to do a "hard reset" which is turning the phone off, press that round blue button and the power button at the same time. That's all I can answer because I don't know what error message is unless you tell us. And, "officially" there is no Windows Mobile 5.0 ROM update for the MPx220.

The MPx220 can run WM5. The WM5 image you have will NOT run on a MPx220. The image you have it for a Pocket PC. If WM5 ever does become available for the MPx220, there will be a specific ROM designed just for the MPx220.

I say go ahead and do it.......its an easy way to turn your phone into a paperweight.

If you're right, the "normal reset" is "hard reset". Does everybody give me ideas about? smile.gif

I also touch Microsoft website, in Windows Mobile page, it also show SmartPhone MPx220 as banner. I think WM5 support MPx220.

Can you give me your detail idea? Have you already install WM5 on MPx220?

Please give me your instructions. Very thanks.

Omega was being sarcastic. If you try to flash the ROM you have, your phone won't be usable anymore. Hence, a paperweight. No WM5 ROM for the MPx220 is available.

Simply put, you can not put a PPC ROM with the WM5 image on the MPx 220. The OS image must be delivered by a ROM made specifically for the MPx 220. You can not cross mix ROM across different devices. Especially a PPC and a Smartphone.

One more thing, Just because you see a MPx 220 banner in the Windows Mobile seciton of www.microsoft.com does not mean it supports then newest OS...that banner and others have been there since the MPx 220 was released, which was more than a year ago. Trust us when we say that there is no way to put WM5 on the MPx 220 without a ROM made for the MPx 220 with the WM5 OS image on it.

I concur.

There is an article in French confirming that WM5 is available for the MPx220:

Same with the post:

"mhm why do you bother with SDA Music??
All that driver stuff was just needed for devices that differ...

So all the driver stuff came up because there was only a leaked Beta Windows Mobile 5 Rom from the MPX220 Device (wich actually has no music buttons and another stick) so all the guys with SDA1 (music) devices wanted to have their stick and shortcut keys working with that rom..

Using an old WM5 Rom (wich is beta state and has no MMS Support by the way..) and putting drivers for all Hurricane Hardware in it would be the wrong way, and at least not very useful

I think we should stay focused on the Tornado WM5 Rom, because it has realese state with MMS Support and you dont need to put any drivers in it because its the same display and stuff like the Hurricane.

The only damn thinh we have to find a solution for is the different size and the problem that u cant write it to a SD-Card Image with the state of the tools at the moment "

Maybe you'll right but in my opinion all this version of wm5 is developers version. So at this time there isn't wm5 for mpx220. Maybe someday

This french quote is BS... All it says is that they got good inside info from a trusted source that there is a version that will run on a 220, but that this "source"'s identity must be kept confidential. Then it goes on to asking why Microsoft won't officially release it to the public (and it's impossible to get), because it would help work out bugs for future versions.

It ends by saying they hope they are able to get ahold of this ROM somehow and they're hoping certain employees hack their way to the files to leak them...

All in all, that whole quote is a bunch of BS and I could have probably made up a more believable story than that... Because really, it claims nothing true, and they don't have any proof that it exists.... just bs...
