I'm not sure if this is a unique customization that Sprint did to the PPC-6700, or if the 8125 has it as well, but I was able to clear the VM notification when this happened by going to Start/Settings/Phone/Services and choose the Clear Voicemail Icon option. Does the 8125 have that? Another option would be to call yourself and leave another voicemail, then try listening to and deleting that to see if it would reset it. The last option was what I did on VZW when this happened to me. I changed my voicemail settings to not include notification of a new voicemail, and the notification on my phone went away. I then called in and changed the settings back.

I had this issue with my i730 on Verizon . I called and left my self a real message than dialed VM from the phone and erased the message. That cleared the problem. Not sure if that helps here.

This has happened to me at least three times with my 8125 in six months or go.. Persistence and leaving another legit message cleared it up twice. The one difficult one required a 611 call to Customer Servce. They reset my voice mail, which required me calling in my custom outgoing messages again, but that was the only way I was able to clear it.. required a restart as well. I'm sure you can fix it with one of these techniques.

well 2 months later and still have the stinking message. cingular has reset voice mail twice. and they have no clue why it is happening. i have to say, once you get a plan, you could die and they would not care. they truly suck at service, just maybe not as bad as the rest.

That's interesting because my experience with Cing Cust Support has been reasonably good, at least compared to the old ATT days... and the two times my VM Icon has gotten stuck, they have fixed, while I'm on the phone with them by resetting my voicemail (system).. I had to call in, setup my out-going messages again, etc.. but they definitely were able to fix it..

It hasn't happened in a while now (at least 2 months)... strange that they can't clear your problem... It really is inconvenient not to know if you really have a new VM or it the icon is just stuck...

Edited January 20, 2007 to say...nevermind my post below. It's not applicable to PPC at all. <shrug> Ooops.

I haven't had this problem but noticed something on my phone this weekend and just thought I'd throw it out there to see if it might be helpful. I've got a voicemail right now that I have NOT listened to so I have the icon in the top bar that looks like the reel to reel tape thingy...kind of like a cassette symbol. This is the indicator I think you all are referring to as staying on even after you've listened to your messages.

BUT, I also have a "voicemail" homescreen plug-in that indicates how many voicemails I have waiting. Is that stuck on yours too - and so not providing an accurate count? I was thinking if it was just the top most icon bar indicator that was stuck, that if you don't already have the voicemail plugin on your homescreen, then perhaps you could add it so you'd have at least that as an aide.

The wm5 plug-in xml looks like this:

<plugin clsid="{0BA8ABB8-1F1D-417f-88C6-DA8530E2E7A6}" name="missedcalls" height="25">
<background>
