_ T-Mobile _ T-Mobile Branding+MMS+GPRS CABs

Posted by: abatis

I have built 3 CABS that are included in the ZIP file below. Use the enclosed GPRS CAB is you have the T-Mo data plan. If you have the T-zones Plan use the CABS in this http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=11177

CAB 1 - rebrands the phone to T-Mobile and sets up the ArcSoft MMS configuration. Probably best to use this one on phone like the SMT5600 that use Arcsoft. Use the other existing CAB in the stickies if you do not want MMS configured. It will leave any existing accounts there.

CAB2 - tgprs - sets the GPRS settings. It adds the wap.voicestream.com and internet2.voicestram.com access points and sets both for connection to the Internet. If you want the WAP Connection just go to settings and edit the connection type.

Cab 3 - tmoset - sets the proxy up if you want it.

Make sure to soft reset the phone after you have installed the CABs. Install by moving to a directory on you phone and executing the CAB.

I set my IE Explorer to Auto and Connection: Internet. In the Settings>Data Connections I just leave everything auto and it works fine for me.

I appreciate any feedback/corrections etc.

It worked great on the MPX220! I used the file I had for the MPX200 and the dimensions are different, so this one definitely worked! Thank you for taking the time to do this!

I used the tmobrand.cab (already had manually set my GPRS settings) and it worked great!! No more references to ATT or M-Mode ... Thanks a million!!!

Great work! Thanks.
I built a few basic cabs, thru info on the forums, from Midnight and yourself, and am trying to build one for the 200 to do the same as above. Is there any chance you still have the .inf files for the above? I would like to make a few minor changes for myself, and don't have a clue how to modify a .xml file directly.
Thanks in advance if you have a moment!!!!!
If you prefer, you can e-mail me at cinimod1000@charter.net

This worked fantastic on my new SMT5600. Thanks!

I still cannot seem to remove the mMode button from the Start Menu, though. I've tried going to File Manager and then Storage > windows > Start Menu and deleting mMode.lnk, but it won't allow me to delete it.

Also, has anyone seen a new home page file - I like the look and feel of the AT&T one better than Windows Default, but I'd like it to have T-Mobile links.

You won't really be able to remove mMode, but you can hide it. You will have to use the phones builtin file manager, then goto Storage>windows>Start Menu, highlight mMode and goto properties then check the hide box.

There are ways to change the mMode, as in where it points, but that is a registry change. Personally I don't know where you make the changes as I didn't see the need, I just hid it from the start menu. It is still on my phone but I will never see it unless I goto file manager.

Ok I bought a factory refurb-ed SMT5600 and I downloaded your cabs, now how do I apply them once I get and unlock my phone?? is there a tutorial you can send a link to? Thanks

Posted by: smeg36

CAB files are pretty simple to install. When you are connected to your PC via Activesync, hit the Explore button on the Activesync window. You can then copy and paste the CAB file anywhere to you phone. I copy them to the Accessories folder in my Start Menu, which you can get to with the Explore window by going to Storage/Windows/Start Menu/Accessories. Then, browse to the location you placed them on your phone (Start/Accessories), and select the CAB file. It will automatically install it to your phone. Power the phone off and back on, and you are done.

Ok
1. I LOVE YOU, smile.gif You quick reply was awesome and concise, oh and thanks for removing that mess-up post wink.gif This forum rocks.

2. Wow, that was easier then I thought

Ok and just to recap, I will get the phone then do a hard reset. Once thats done I will unlock the phone, and finally install the cab file from the zip archive you guys have so graciously provided (more props to you guys, thanks). And for the final touch I will hide the mMode link in the Start menu. When all is said and done I should have what will seem to be an Audiovox SMT5600 from T-mobile wink.gif wink.gif This will be great. Again thanks for all the helpful info and for clarifying the cabs thing.

Posted by: bandoba

Wow! That was quick & great! I still see Cingular on home screen just above the time. Is this expected or I missed something?

Posted by: lcolquett

Ok all of you guys are awesome! It is so great that you take the time to help all of us out here with such inticate issues. Thanks a million. The .cab files worked like a charm and my once before cingular SMT5600 is now all Tmobile. I have added Tmobile's $9.99 internet service to my package and now i need to figure out how to sync my email (yahoo) and access the internet browser. Currently i am getting an error message when i click on IE.
Please email me at lcolquett@yahoo.com with any suggestions. Thank You smile.gif

Do you have MMS service started with T-Mobile. Even if the settings are correct you need T-Mo to turn on the MMS. You can do it from the T-monile.com site. If you have the service turned on and the settings aren't working I will try to help you.

Yes, it is turned I tried manually with a tmobile agent but nothing, then i found this forum installed the cab files everything works but the MMS.
prior to installing CABs A T-mobile agent turned on internet service for me to test and my browser worked.

Posted by: abatis

The browser service has nothing to do with the MMS. Can you give us your current MMS settings? We can work through it.

You need to get to the MMS edit connection settings and see what is there.

Hi

I have an unlocked Audiovox SMT 5600 phone. I use it with my T-Mobile card. The phone works, but it uses the Cingular network and roams all the time. If I put the sim card into my old nokia phone, it works on the t-mobile network.

I installed the 3 cabs mentioned here but that is of no help sad.gif.

Any guidance?

It has been awhile since I used a Smartphone but I wanted to check out the T-mobile MMS situation on my backup T-mobile account. It turns out my account includes Picture and Video messaging as part of the package so I didn't have to turn anything on (I didn't know this before our little problem here). Anyway I have the phone working and able to send MMS. Here are screenshots of the settings:

To make typing into the phone easier I suggest you install the Microsoft Powertoys on your PC and use Active Sync Remote Display for typing into the Phone as opposed to that little keypad on your SMT5600. You can get it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=74473fd6-1dcc-47aa-ab28-6a2b006edfe9&displaylang=en

You do not need any data plans to make this work.

I just got a smt5600 which was branded to cingular and I was searching the web for a T-mo rebranding cab when I came across this site; so far great info. I down loaded your cabs and the rebrand seamed to work good except I still get the cingular good bye! is that normal?

Also, are there any other programs, upgrades or info anyone would recommend to a new smt5600 user?

Thanks biggrin.gif

So, How do I get into these screens on the smt5600?

Never mind, found it. MMS is working

Posted by: abatis

Start by going to Setting>Configurations>MMS settings and work through the screen setup. You retrieve your MMS by going to you messages on the home sccreen and change to MMS.

Thanks, I found it. MMS is working now.

Do you have any program, upgrade or must haves for this phone that you would recommend?

Posted by: abatis

Sprite Backup is a great program to have. It backups your entire phone including data and settings. If you have a problem you can restore and not have to reload or retype everything including those MMS settings. They have a free trial - but well worth the purchase.

Do a MGN search for favorite software and you will find input from others on the site. regards

The settings found http://wap.x2-hosting.com/t-zones/ have worked for me with any data plan I have tried. Try entering these settings and make sure the Connection settings in IE are set to WAP Network and the Automatically Detect Settings box

The settings given on this page are correct. Here is some addditional info that may help:

For new T-Mob customers ofen times the wap network won't allow newly activated accounts to use the internet, so cust. serv. will have you set the Access Point to "internet2.voicestream.com" so you can access the internet. The downside is that MMS will not work! In order to use MMS the Access Point needs to be "wap.voicestream .com". After the internet has been on your account for a while, cust. serv didn't say how long (days, weeks, months?), your device will be able to use the "wap.voicstream.com" Access Point and get to the internet. You will probably have to call to have T-Mob reset your connection a few times, as I did, until the Wap server allows your device to access the internet so you don't have to change the connection settings each time you want to send an MMS or surf the internet.

snorky,

Do you have MMS enabled with T-Mo? You need to have the service added to your account. If not, call 611 and ask them to enable it.

Hi,

Do you think this cab file may solve a problem I'm having with my phone? I have an ASUS P525 and my current provider is TMobile USA but I cannot get this phone to detect the GPRS network, meaning the phone doesn't even know that there is a network available (no 'G' in the task bar). I have all the correct GPRS settings and I know the SIM is o.k. since I can use it on my other phone and connect no problem. Voice works as it should just not the GPRS.

I know this problem is specific between this phone and TMobile as I have tried it on the Cingular network and it works perfectly. The phone is unlocked and was purchased from Australia. Do you know if this cab will help me detect the TMobile network?

Also, if I wanted to experiment with this cab, would I be able to get back to where I was before installing the cab?

Thanks,
Ho'okani
