SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April 23, 2009 - Aliph, the leader in mobile audio, today introduced Jawbone PRIME with EARCANDY colors. Jawbone PRIME brings consumers even better audio quality, improved comfort and fresh, fun color choices. This release continues Aliph’s tradition of marrying technology and design to deliver the best Bluetooth headset on the market. Jawbone PRIME and its EARCANDY colors are available today for pre-order at www.jawbone.com and will be sold in retail stores nationally starting May 2, 2009.

“We watched our customers closely and saw how they struggled to be heard in extreme noise environments. So, we focused our engineering team to go deeper on the tough problems like crying babies, pounding jackhammers, beeping elevators and the like,” said Hosain Rahman, Aliph’s CEO and co-founder. “As a result, we are excited to announce Jawbone PRIME, with orders of magnitude better noise suppression, so our customers can continue their conversations wherever they happen to be.”

NoiseAssassin 2.0 Sets New Audio Standard
With Jawbone PRIME, Aliph has once again obsoleted itself with the latest in NoiseAssassin technology which delivers better noise elimination performance, an integrated digital approach to wind reduction, and a fail-safe solution if the Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) does not touch the user’s face.

Jawbone PRIME has even better background noise elimination than the previous generations. NoiseAssasin 2.0 delivers an order of magnitude improvement in the noisiest environments (6 to 9dB) extracting even more noise while keeping the user’s voice natural.
Acoustic Voice Activity Detector (AVAD) provides a fail-safe mechanism when the Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) does not touch the user’s face. If the VAS is not touching the face, Jawbone PRIME performs as good as or better than any other noise cancelling headset. When the VAS touches the face, the user experiences a turbo-boost to the NoiseAssassin performance.
Jawbone PRIME also includes Multipoint functionality and can be simultaneously connected to two Bluetooth enabled devices.

Jawbone PRIME Works Beautifully in Wind
Aliph’s world-class engineers are heavily focused on solving wind for users in every day usage scenarios by leveraging the physical advantages of the proprietary sensor coupled with new Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms. Jawbone PRIME handles wind up to 10 mph so users can have intelligible conversations while maintaining the natural sound of the user’s voice. This innovation represents a critical step towards solving wind interference which has historically been a physical problem that has plagued the industry.

New Fit Options Customized for Every Ear
Every ear is unique, like a fingerprint. Jawbone PRIME introduces a wide array of customization options, enabling the user to find the most comfortable fit. With three round Earbuds, three New Fit Earbuds and an optional earloop, the user can identify what works best for the individual ear. For the majority of users, the New Fit Earbuds render the earloop completely unnecessary.

Fresh and Attractive EARWEAR® Brings Spring to Bluetooth Headsets
By combining fashion and youthful exuberance with unparalleled noise elimination, EARCANDY will bring new users into the category by inspiring them to buy their first Bluetooth headset. The vivid range of EARCANDY hues reflect the Spring 2009 fashion trends in which bright colors are made approachable and wearable, resonating with women and younger users who care about products that fit into their lifestyle.

“EARCANDY is our summer color burst, to bring self-expression and a smile to our line-up,” says designer Yves Behar. “The four colors represent great skin-tone complements and contrast, as well as personal style one cannot resist, this reinforces the basic notion that anything that the consumer wears makes a statement, and it should be designed as such...this is what we call EARCANDY.”

EARCANDY builds on Aliph’s design leadership. Jawbone is part of the collection at several prominent museums, including The Museum of Modern Art, New York.

WMWifiRouter is great. If you can find it the older v0.91 was free. The developer pulled it when they released the commercial version, but if you had it before they did it still works great. I found it particularly amusing when my friend with an iPhone did a speedtest, then connected to my Sprint Touch Pro running WMWifiRouter and redid the speedtest and got a faster result.

This is sad news indeed. I remember picking up a copy in the airport, back when it was still called Pocket PC Magazine, prior to ever purchasing a PPC device. It was largely because of Pocket PC Magazine that I ended up buying my first PPC, a Casio Cassiopeia EM-500, back in 2002. I've always thought of PPC Magazine, and subsequent Smartphone and Pocket PC Mag, as a staple of the Windows Mobile world. It's a very strange feeling to no longer have it when Windows Mobile is stronger and better than ever. You'll be missed PPC Mag.

With older versions of the WM Smartphone OS, it wasn't very easy to change the startup sounds because anything placed in the Windows folder on the device would get overwritten every time it booted. Now there's a much easier method because this doesn't seem to happen anymore. Simply create two blank files called Startup.wav and Shutdown.wav, and copy them over to your Windows folder. Notepad works very well on the PC, just be sure to change the file extension from .txt to .wav, and that should silence the sounds.

That is funny to read through. Since having the Q I've actually upgraded surprisingly little (for me at least). After the Q I got the Mogul, then the Touch. I've had the Touch now since last November. The device that's got me excited now is the Touch Diamond. It's supposed to be coming out soon on Sprint, and I'm due for an upgrade.

I installed the WM6.1 ROM the day it came out, and it has made an amazing device almost perfect. It adds EVDO Rev. A data, and unlocked the GPS chip, among other things. Those two features were a huge upgrade though. I'm planning on getting the Touch Diamond when it comes out (supposedly August 28th or Septempter 2nd). So that would mean I had the Touch for almost 10 months. That's a record for me, which goes to show how good a device it really is.

Glad it got there safely. I didn't even know there were laws against talking on a cell phone in Brazil. There are in a couple of states in the US, but most don't have them. They should, it's much safer to talk on a headset and keep both hands on the wheel. I'd have to agree with your wife, the new Jawbone is a very good looking headset. I get questions about it all the time when I'm browsing my local electronics stores.

A 3 year contract! And I thought 2 years was a really long contract (I just finished my first 2 year contract, always had 1 year prior to this). The Q is still useful as an organizer, and for sending SMS. If you aren't going to use any of the offline features, like Calander, Contacts sync with Outlook, etc., there are probably some better choices.

The New Jawbone by Aliph has large shoes to fill. It's big brother, the original Jawbone bluetooth headset, set the standard for bluetooth headset quality. Companies today advertise a lot of new "features" and "enhancements" to their products, but usually it ends up just being a lot of hype. In some cases, it can actually cause the product to be worse. That was not the case with the original Jawbone. It's NoiseShield technology really did everything they advertised, and did it very well. With the new Jawbone headset, Aliph has created a new technology to try to improve on the NoiseShield the original Jawbone had. They call it NoiseAssassin. So, it this new NoiseAssassin all just hype, or does it actually live up to the expectations brought by the original Jawbone headset? Watch the video review below to find out!

Pros and Cons

Pros

1) VERY comfortable fit right out of the box
2) Customizable with 4 different earloops, and 3 different size earbuds
3) NoiseAssassin technology does all it claims, and actually surpasses the NoiseShield technology of the original Jawbone
4) Light, comfortable, and great looking design
5) Magnetic charger is cool and easy to use
6) Incoming call volume is very loud
7) Buttons are responsive and provide good tactile feedback

Cons

1) Incoming sound quality can be a little tinny and compressed sounding
2) That's pretty much it. Not many cons, which is why it got 5 stars

Attached Image

Conclusion

The new Jawbone headset lived up to, and exceeded, every expectation I had for it. From the time I started using the original Jawbone, I looked forward to seeing what Aliph could come up with next. I had high hopes and expectations for what their next headset should be. So for it to exceed my expectations is really saying something. It has a very comfortable fit, amazing sound with NoiseAssassin, and great design. With the original Jawbone I had to buy some Jabra miniGels to make it comfortable enough to use, and with prolonged wear my ear would start to hurt and get tired. With the new Jawbone those problems are fixed. The included earbuds are extremely comfortable, and the smaller size makes it very easy to use for extended periods. Reviews often say they forget they're wearing the headset. Not me. I've always been very aware of the headsets I wear. With the new Jawbone, for the first time, I can say I truly forget I'm wearing it sometimes.

There is actually a new Jawbone headset available. It's even better than the original. We'll be doing a review of it shortly.

How do you like the OS? Do you think it's better, worse, or just different from Windows Mobile?

I found a store that had them in stock today, and picked one up. They say it's 50% smaller than the original Jawbone. I know mathematically that's half the size, but you don't realize how much smaller it is until you see it in person. It's so much smaller, and way more comfortable, than the original. I had to buy Jabra minigels to use with the original Jawbone because none of the ear gels that came with it were comfortable enough. With the new Jawbone, the included ear gels are very comfortable. I'm using the smallest one paired with the medium sized leather hook. I'm debating between the leather hook, which I think would be more comfortable for extended periods, and the small hook that works well with glasses because I wear sun glasses in the car all the time (I'm in S. FL after all).

I haven't done any real quality testing compared to the original Jawbone, which is what I consider to be the highest quality sounding headset there is. I'll try it out over the next few days, and do some tests to see if the NoiseAssasin works as well as Noise Shield did.

I'm excited for the release of the new Jawbone. I've been using the original for a long time, and love everything about it except it's size. The new one is half the size. But none of the AT&T stores in my area are supposed to have any until Monday.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – May 15, 2008 – Aliph, the established market leader in noise eliminating Bluetooth® headsets, today introduced the new Jawbone® Bluetooth headset. In the tradition of bringing together science and beauty, the new Jawbone design is 50% smaller than the original award-winning Jawbone, and features breakthrough noise elimination technology to provide even better voice quality than the original in a smaller and more ergonomic package. It is available today exclusively at AT&T retail stores and at www.jawbone.com or www.wireless.att.com.

Bluetooth headset shipments are predicted to top 120 million units worldwide in 2009. With over 60% of new phones in North America shipping with Bluetooth, and hands-free driving legislation in effect in five states and the District of Columbia by July 1st, the new Jawbone combines unparalleled form and function just in time to appeal to a broad and growing consumer audience.

The Best Just Got Better
The new Jawbone headset is the next step in the marriage of best in class noise elimination science with a personal design that is both humanistic and minimal. The new Jawbone features military-grade NoiseAssassin technology, which is unmatched in its ability to address real-world noise environments like busy streets, and cars and airports, and has ten times better voice clarity than competing headsets – meaning it transmits 90% less noise.

Jawbone’s NoiseAssassin technology literally feels your speech with its patented Voice Activity Sensor (VAS). The Jawbone headset uses the VAS to distinguish the sound of your voice from ambient noise with incredible accuracy and then uses proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms to subtract the noise so only the sound of your voice comes through.

The NoiseAssassin technology was originally developed by Aliph for DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), which creates and delivers breakthrough technology for the U.S. military. It is tested and designed to work in the toughest, most inhospitable terrain, when clear communication is critical, which means for the average user it is designed to perform everywhere.

The new Jawbone headset is designed to be simple to use. Two streamlined buttons are operated by touching the outside shield, and they control all the functions of the headset, which is extremely lightweight at just 10 grams.

“In creating the new Jawbone we focused on improving our audio performance beyond the market-leading noise solution that we already had, and elevating the design to a point where it would appeal to a broad range of consumers who would love to wear it,” said Hosain Rahman, CEO and co-founder of Aliph. “Jawbone provides amazing audio quality in a form factor that is a true lifestyle accessory – it’s a new and complete departure from the typical gadgetry of the Bluetooth category.”

“When Aliph and AT&T launched the original Jawbone, a new standard was set for voice quality and design in Bluetooth headsets,” said Carlton Hill, vice president of Product Management, Voice Products and Affiliate Marketing for AT&T’s wireless unit. “Given the market response to the original Jawbone, we are thrilled to work with Aliph again to launch the new Jawbone – which once again promises to be one of the most innovative headsets in the marketplace.”

It’s Not a Headset – it’s Earwear
The new Jawbone is designed to look and feel like an accessory along the lines of jewelry and eyewear. “If it’s not beautiful, it doesn’t belong on your face,” said renowned industrial designer Yves Behar, chief designer of the Jawbone headset.

Made with premium materials, including medical grade plastic with better cosmetic and health performance, the expressive aesthetic confers a premium visual and ergonomic experience. The new Jawbone provides a more comfortable and customized fit with three sizes of earbuds and four earloops that can be worn on either ear – two sizes of soft, stitched leather earloops and two sizes of slim earloops, ideal for use with eyeglasses.

Availability and Pricing
The new Jawbone is available today for $129.99 at AT&T retail stores nationwide and online at www.jawbone.com and www.wireless.att.com. Available initially in matte black, it will be coming soon in silver and rose gold.

The New Jawbone
Compatible with all Bluetooth-enabled phones, the new Jawbone supports more than four hours of talk time and eight days of standby time. Featuring a new fast-charge battery that charges up to 80% of capacity in just over half an hour, the new Jawbone can be charged with the included USB cable on a computer, or with the wall-charger.

Verizon Wireless XV6900
By HTC Corp.
MGN Rating -

4 star: Good; worth the money
5 star: Great; best of its kind on the market

Review by Smeg36
Review Date / April 23rd, 2008

Intro

Our previous HTC Touch reviews on MGN have made it very clear; we love the Touch. Both the GSM and Sprint CDMA versions of the Touch have been a big hit, and both got 5 stars. With the release of the XV6900 VZW users can now partake in the Touch goodness. With a few minor software customizations, and a bright white shell, the VZW XV6900 doesn't disappoint.

Pros

The pros and cons have been taken almost directly from the Sprint Touch review. The device is nearly identical, and the pros and cons are almost exactly the same. Look at the Sprint Comparison section for the minor differences between the VZW XV6900 and Sprint Touch.

1) Very small size
2) Flush touch screen is among the clearest, brightest I've ever used. The flush part is really nice as well.
3) VERY fast. The 400Mhz processor coupled with 128MB of RAM means you'll never want for speed.
4) EVDO data, with future EVDO Rev. A upgradeable. Fast data is great.
5) Fit and finish; the Touch just feels like a solid, very well build device.
6) HTC Customizations; I love the HTC software that is included on top of the WM interface. TouchFlo isn't just a gimmick, it works great.

Cons

1) On-screen keyboard isn't as nice as a hardware keyboard. While it does suffice, it just isn't as fast or easy to use. This may be the one area of the Touch that causes some users to dislike it.
2) No wifi. I'm not sure if this is really a con so much as a missing feature that some can't live without. I can live without it, but have found myself wishing I had it a couple times. Not a deal breaker in my case, but it is in some people's.

Sprint Comparison

There are some differences, both large and small, between the XV6900 and Sprint Touch. Below is a list of the differences I noticed between the two devices.

1) White shell. Obviously this is the largest difference. Some will like it, some won't. Personally, I like it. I don't know if I like it better than the black, but it is nice. If any Sprint Touch users out there would rather have the white, I'm sure the VZW housing will become available eventually, and then you can swap out your black for the white. It's not really worth the effort in my book, but I'm sure someone will do it.
2) The HTC Home Verizon today plugin. Both the Sprint and Verizon versions have similar plugins, but they launch different programs. The VZW version launches the phone dialer, locks the device, goes to Messaging, takes you to a mobile Handango software store, and opens the Photo Album software. While not easy to do, this plugin can be customized with your own icons and applications.
3) MMS is included on the VZW XV6900. Us Sprint users have been waiting patiently for years for a Windows Mobile Picture Mail application, but none has come yet. VZW users have a leg up in this area.
4) Lack of a Java client application. While there are some that can be installed, none is included.
5) The TouchFlo cube launches different applications, and has different icons. As with the HTC Home Verizon plugin, this can be customized, although it isn't easy to do.

Conclusion

As with the GSM and Sprint CDMA Touch, the VZW XV6900 is a home run in the Windows Mobile world. If you are looking to get a new phone on VZW, or are signing up for VZW service, take a long hard look at the Touch. I wouldn't switch to Verizon specifically to get the white version of the Touch though, especially as more and more carriers are getting the Touch. Overall, the XV6900 is a great device, as has come to be expected from HTC.

I'm not entirely certain with the GSM Touch, but here's a possible solution. Find the USB to PC setting (on my Sprint Touch you go to Start/Settings/System, and there is USB to PC. On the VZW Touch I just got for review you go to Start/Settings/Connections). It is probably in Start/Settings/Connections. Open the program, and uncheck the box 'Enable advanced network functionality'. Try connecting it to your PC, and see if it works now.

A nice white shell will set the XV6900 apart from the Sprint branded Touch.

The mirror and speaker placement is the same as the Sprint Touch, so any cases and other accessories for the CDMA Touch should work fine with the XV6900.

Side-by-side, the Sprint Touch and VZW XV6900. The white case is slick, unlike the rubbery black case on the Sprint Touch. It's a nice change of pace. When the XV6900 housings become available, I suspect some Sprint users will be swapping out for the white case.

Initially there was some speculation that the XV6900 would be smaller than the other CDMA Touches. As you can see here, it is the same housing, just painted white.

VZW, like Sprint, customized the TouchFlo cube. Along with the icons being different, they have Notes and Voice Recorder on the above side of the cube.

A welcome change from the Sprint version, the Music link in the cube actually takes you to Windows Media Player (the Sprint version goes to the Sprint Music Store). Photos and Video take you to the HTC Album software.
