QUOTE (over2land @ Jan 31 2007, 04:36 PM) *
Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead, but I'd like to do this same thing with an MPx300, but don't even know where to start.

I've asked the guy on ebay selling the MPx200 with WM5 questions, but haven't gotten an answer.

I'm not sure if it was darkoverlord, King Daddy or who figured this out, but (and here's the nooB part of this post) I tried PMing both and was told I wasn't allowed to do that on this forum. I was looking for some guidance with doing the same thing on the MPx300 and don't even know where to start.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help on the subject.

Thanks.

Don't even consider trying to install the WM5 for the MPx200 on an MPx300, you will end up with a paper weight.

If you want to try and modify a WM5 ROM for the MPx200 to work on your MPx300 I would start with the Chinese WM5 ROM and go from there.

You can find a lot of info about how to port a ROM at:

http://www.xda-developers.com

Look at the section for the Blue Angel, there are several paople who have ported a WM5 ROM to that device (it is also called a Siemens SX66 and it runs fantastic with WM5).

You could also try and roll a generic WM5 ROM in the ROM kitchen and use that as a starting point.

Good Luck.

Hi everyone, long time reader first time poster here.

I've just bought a MPx200 because I wanted a smartphone with Windows and so far I can't fault-find it smile.gif but I've heard that there is an upgrade to Windows Mobile 2005 for it. Now I have looked and read through this thread, but I can't find the link anywhere to the Motorola Mobile Upgrade Wizard!

Could someone link me - that would be fantastic smile.gif

Thanks in advance

James

There is some question about that the Sandisk WiFi card may work, I have never tried it myself but there are some drivers out there for the Viewsonic PDA which has the same type of SD slot as the MPx200.

To the best of my knowledge Viewsonic has two different drivers listed on their site that enables the Sandisk WiFi card to work with a couple of their PDAs.

I had a Viewsonic model 37 a long time ago and it was not easy but I finally managed to get the Sandisk card working in that unit.

Hello everybody,

I have a great problem. My phone worked fine up to now. But yesterday I wanted to boot it and the inner screen only lights a little but it doesn't show anything. The outer display works alright and the phone accepts the PIN. I did not flash it or changed anything else. It is just like out of the box.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thomas

If you open the upper part of the phone by removing the four little Torx screws you will see a large ribbong cable at the side. Be carefull when you remove the outer plastic cover so you don't rip or cut the cable.

You can try and remove and reseat the ribbon cable, that works in some cases.

I have already posted my email address for those of you who want the link to the WM5 image, all you had to do was send me an email and request the link.

I stated clearly that I would not post the link to the file(s) here on this board in any way shape or form and some of you still PM me for a link.

I have no idea why the instructions would say to use that button combination.

You start the Moto Upgrade Wizard and at about the second or third step you hold down the left button ONLY and keep holding it down while you plug the USB cable in to the phone. The Wizard will then either recognize the phone and you can select the image that you want to flash to it, or it will return an error message that the phone was not found. In that case it is most likely a driver issue.

I am pretty sure that if you try to do it any other way than the above described, you stand a pretty good chance of turning the phone in to a Paperweight.

I am not sure I understand why you press the left button and the power button.

That button combination is not used for anything that I know of.

It sounds like you have either the wrong version of the Moto Upgrade Wizard and/or the wrong driver for the phone.

Drop me an email and I will upload the right version that I use to upgrade to WM5 with, including the right WM5 ROM, to a place where you can download it from.

Does the phone show up as a modem when you go to "System" and then "Hardware"?

Take the battery out and leave it out for a while.
Put the battery back in and plug the phone in to the charger.
It may take a little while before it start charging so be patient.
After it has been charging for a while, start the Moto Upgrade Wizard and follow the instructions on the screen as it relates to preparing the phone for the upgrade.
When you get to the screen where it ask you to hold down the "LEFT" arrow key (to the left of the big blue button), hold that button down and plug the USB cable in to the phone. DON'T touch the power button when you do this and also make sure that the phone is turned OFF before you start.
The upgrade wizard should find the phone and you are in business.

After that, flash the phone and follow the instructions that you can find here on this site.

Unless you are an antenna guru it would be hard to improve the lousy antenna the MPx200 comes with.

You may want to take a look at the antenna design they use in the Panasonic GD55 with the built-in antenna.
It is only available in a few aftermarket housings but it does work great.

Those are really hard to find unless you order them from Moto.

I have found that most hobby stores carry some tiny brass screws with a regular slotted head that works just fine.

QUOTE (jda007 @ Sep 14 2006, 04:44 PM) *
Thank you all very much. Here is a summary of my experience:

I HAD wm5 up and running and I really don't know what happened but it just froze. I formatted the SD in my camera before I upgraded but now my camera won't read it so I can't format it again and I have tried to reflash it twice since then to no avail. I am now unable to format the SD card. Do you think this is the problem? I am trying to find a way to format it.
Thanks again

Jda007

Like I stated in my earlier post. If you can't make it work correctly, ship it to me with one of the SD cards that I recommend you use and I will upgrade it for you and ship it back to you. You pay for all shipping charges because I have already been burned once when I shipped somebody some parts in good faith.

I have a brand new MPx200 phone with WM5 here with a Sandisk 256MB. SD card and if you want to drop me a "Good Faith" deposit of $200.00 I will be happy to do a X-Ship to you.

Like I said, once burned twice shy.

I obviously made a mistake when I offered to help out some members with their MPx200 phones, I thought that they would appreciate if somebody offered to help them out and in the process I managed to ship some parts to other members at my expense.
I now realize that it was a big mistake to do so beacuse those same members did not understand the concept of the HONOR system.

My loss and a loss for the rest of the members here but such is life.

From now on, don't ask, and don't request any information because I won't answer.

You need to format the SD card before you start.

I always format the card using Rescoe Explorer under WM2003 before I start doing an upgrade.
By now I have probably upgraded well over 100 MPx200 phones with a regular 256MB or 1GB Sandisk SD card without any problems at all.

If you continue to have problems and really want WM5, ship me your phone and I will upgrade it for you for free.

Make sure that the Moto Upgrade Wizard does recognize your phone if you want me to upgrade it for you, I don't want to be accused of turning any phone in to a paper weight.

It sounds like the registry is not unlocked.

Go through the forum and find the post by AndrewSH to unlock the registry.

After that you can run OMAP without any problems (just don't go higher than 144MHz. or it will lock up).

If you followed all the steps as outlined here, used an unlocked phone with one of the SD cards that are recommended (many other cards work too) and did not get impatient along the way, there is no way that you would not have been able to flash your phone to WM5.

Most of the problems occur when somebody gets impatient, especially after the first part of the ROm where you have to wait a LONG time for the error screen to show up and also after the last image file where you have to wait for the phone to reset.

Are you absolutely sure that you have the right WM5 ROM?

Did you make sure to remove the SD card before flashing part1 of the ROM, did you format the card before starting the process and did you remove your SIM card before you started?

I posted the earlier message in order to clear up any confusion and other downloads of the WM5 image file.

It appears that some of you are too lame to figure out how to follow those directions I posted.

DON'T ask for a link on this board, your request WILL be ignored.

DON'T ask for any further instructions, they have already been posted over and over again.

I WILL send you a link to the WM5 download but I will NOT answer any questions about how to apply that update because you are too lazy/too stupid to find the answers to your questions on this board.

Unpack all images using WinRar in to one unpacked library and then flash that one image.

If you don't know how to do that, don't try to use that upgrade.

You get an Ohm meter and stick one probe on each side of the fuse, if the fuse is good you will have continuity over it.
