OK,

I love my MPx200. I had to replace the one that I lost, so for my new (used) MPx200, I decided to purchase a 2 GB SD card.

Here is the problem: When I insert the 2 GB SD card, the MPx does a hard shutdown. Just like that. WHAM!

I have to remove the SD card, yank the battery and reboot. it comes up. I can put in a 256 K SD, no problem... Take it out and put in the 2 GB SD, and WHAM! hard shutdown.

So, I turn to my fellow phone hackers & phreaks out there and ask: Well, how do we solve THIS one?

I look forward to your answers.

Vincent

System as tested:
MPx200 w/ 2003 (ver 4.20.0, german hack) / SanDisk 2 GB SD Chip

Hmm, that is interesting. You are the first person I have read of that tried that setup, so I haven't read of anyone having that problem. Maybe the MPx200 is only capable of 1GB, which was the highest capacity available at its production. Sorry I don't have a solution for you. I wish I had a 2GB SD available to test with.

Yes,

It is a challenge. I have googled, and can find no other instance of someone trying this. I cannot believe that I am the first person on the planet to try this.

Certainly the specs say up to a 1 gig, but that was the largest at the time.

Could there be a registy hack?

I turn to you all to find a solution. Anyone ready to take on the challange?

(but no, I will not send you my SD chip tongue.gif )

can you tell us why anyone needs 2Gb inside the MPx200? I put 512Mb SD Hi-speed card, and can put there one movie, lots of games, and more music than the battery can take...

so, I would like to hear of usefulness of 2Gb SD card... smile.gif

You can NEVER have enough storage! More space means a larger variety if music and movies. Until I can fit every DVD I own uncompressed, and every cd I own in wav format, I don't have enough storage.

Well, that would be it, exactly.

First, I would like enough MP3's so that I can travel transcontinental without thinking... Oh, THAT again.

Next, PPT's to make a point are great.

Third, I would like to try DVD's. I finally found a DVD decrypting software, so I can make personal copies of my own DVD's, but if anyone knows a good hack for the MPx200 for video, I'll take that as well.

Fifth, with 400 emails, and 1000 contacts, it do eat the base memory. Load the 2003 hack, and the English language support, and there is no room for other programs. ( Man, what I wouldn't do for the ability to allocate memory like in an IPAQ).

Fourth... well, it's really that MP3 thing. I really like music.

So, I have bared my soul.

I am optimistic that there is a reason why this thing shuts down when the 2 GB SD is inserted and I am thinking it is a hard coded limit. C'mon all you out there smarter than me!! I know you can do it.

V.

I have another big demand for space... MAPS! I use Mapopolis w/GPS on my phone (real life/time saver at times), and I would love to have ALL the maps for the US available on my phone (almost 900mb total). Granted I wouldn't have all of them loaded/selected in Mapopolis but if they are all there I would feel better. Granted it isn't a need, but just a want. I am looking forward to 2GB mini-SD cards (They are being developed and tested now).

Or 63 32MB cards. That would just create another problem, how do you carry both cards? I haven't found a good solution to that one yet. I say if you have the money, get the biggest card you can. Sorry I can't help you with a solution. Maybe someday I will have the money to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB, but not soon.
