_ T-Mobile _ "Rebrand" Your MPx200 to T-mobile

Posted by: GrYph0n

If you are tired of seeing that mMode screen at startup and tired of seeing AT&T Wireless when you make your calls, then I have some simple instructions on how you can have your phone look as if it were branded to T-Mobile.

NOTICE: I am not responsible for any damage done to your device when attempting to alter your phones registry!!!

Take your time and be carefull !!! If you get into trouble during the entry process, press the "Cancel" key and start over.
If you have Sprite (Beta) I recommend you first back up your phone.

Goto your PHM RegEdit on your phone or download it http://www.phm.lu/Products/Smartphone/RegEdit/

The t-mobile gifs.zip file is attached at the bottom of the post. download it and save the two gif files to IPSM directory on your MPx phone. Once you finish the process I recommend that you use file manager to hide these files (menu>properties then check the hide box)

To Change the AT&T mLIFE boot up screen, do the following;
(Note, if you have flashed your phone, this process will add a boot screen, I have yet to figure out how to get rid of the Mobile Operator Screen.)

Once the registry editor is launched go to ;

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Software
- Microsoft
- Splash Screen (Flashed phones will need to create this Key)
Press the "Values" softkey
Scroll down to "MSBitmap"(Flashed phones will need to create this string) and press the blue ACTIONS key
Replace "\Windows\mLifebootup.gif" with "\IPSM(Storage for 2003)\t-mobile.gif"(Flashed phones, just enter this value in the string)
Press "Done" softkey
Keep pressing the Back key until you are out of the Registry Editor
Press Home key.
Power cycle the phone.

To get rid of the dial screen logo, do the following:

Once the registry editor is launched go to ;

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Software
- Microsoft
- Shell
- Rai
- MSCdial
Press the "Values" softkey
Scroll down to "Banner Image" and press the blue ACTIONS key
Replace "\Windows\branding_brick.gif" with "\IPSM(Storage for 2003)\t-bar.gif"
Press "Done" softkey
Keep pressing the Back key until you are out of the Registry Editor
Press Home key.
Power cycle the phone.

The above process will delete the logo when you are entering numbers to dial, on the keypad, but when you press "Talk", another AT&T(flashed phones: Smartphone 2002) logo will appear on that screen.

To change that one, do the following

Once the registry editor is launched go to ;

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Software
- Microsoft
- Shell
- Rai
- MSCprog <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Press the "Values" softkey
Scroll down to "Banner Image" and press the blue ACTIONS key
Replace "\Windows\branding_brick.gif" with "\IPSM(Storage for 2003)\t-bar.gif"
Press "Done" softkey
Keep pressing the Back key until you are out of the Registry Editor
Press Home key.
Power cycle the phone.

If you have flashed your phone then the origional strings will be different, just replace whatever is there with what I have in the instructions above.

I got the idea from the folks over at Pocket PC Passion, but I changed the directions so they were easier to follow, and thanks to MGN Member jcoffing for pointing me in that direction...

Have fun and good luck with your newly T-Mobile branded MPx200 smile.gif  T_Mobile_GIFs.zip ( 2.75K ) : 251

Have you tried "Screen Changer 2"

From the Readme.txt

QUOTE
Screen Changer Tool is a program that allows you to change the startup and shutdown screens on your Smartphone. Two can be set for each, and can be any gif image of the size of 176x220. Please note that as of yet the orange sunset screen cannot be changed, due to it being part of the rom!

I don't know if it'll do exactly what you want but it's worth a try...

Posted by: GrYph0n

Well I gave Screen Changer 2 a try and it worked. I managed to remove/replace the "mobile operator" screen from my start up process. Thanks deavod.

BTW: Do you have any other shutdown screens? I am too busy/lazy to look...

Posted by: deavod

I only have the ones that came with the software, but I think any properly sized image would work.

Posted by: Slacker

Hmm. My previous post disappeared. I was asking Gryph0n to point out the link to the T-mobile graphics because I didn't see it in his post. Thank you.

Posted by: GrYph0n

I will re upload it when I get home. It will be added to the origional post above.

Posted by: Slacker

Thank you sir. I am LOVING T-mobile!

Posted by: outthere

Or you can just use this cab file I made up that does all of the registry changes for you. I got tired of having to redo everything when I'd hard reset, so I have a master cab file that does all my tmobile settings (including setting the voicemail dial in number, etc) and my themes, and reapplies all of the tweaks I've accumulated.

anyway, here's just the t-mobile branding portion. And yes, it includes the gifs as well as making the settings.

To install, unzip the zip file below, but DO NOT extract the contents of the cab file. Using activesync, place the file on your phone in the temp directory (Temp), or in the start menu. (IPSMWindowsStart Menu). Then go on your phone and either select it using file manager or run it from the programs menu.

Enjoy!  T_Mobile_Branding.zip ( 3.67K ) : 234

outthere,

Thank you! Your cab file works great!!

Posted by: GrYph0n

Outstanding!

Your .cab file worked great for the startup/shutdown screens. Is there another step to configure the dial and background image? I tried using the tmo_splash and tmo_dial for background image but neither seemed to be made for background.

Posted by: GrYph0n

I wouldn't imagine that the dial image would work because it is nothing more than that small image at the top of the screen. If you want it as a home screen back ground then simply right click the screenshot of the startup screen above and save as a .jpg to your desktop. Then just sync it over to your phone, put it in IPSMApplication DataHome. Then goto Programs>Settings>Home Screen and select the image you just added as your background. That should be all there is to it. Hope this helps...

Posted by: kalidor

So where can I get this screen changer 2?

Posted by: GrYph0n

Uh.. wink.gif look up, it is attached to the fourth post from the top, or just download the .cab file that does everything for you, it is up there somewhere as well...

Thank you so much. I just got this phone from my brother, unlocked it, and now enjoy it on T-Mobile without the annoying mLife screens. That was very kind of you to build that!!!

Posted by: hatchjn

It's not letting me download anything in this post. Specifically the images in the original post. It's telling me that the source file cannot be read. Is there a problem or just something that I'm doing wrong?

Posted by: GrYph0n

I belive that there may be an issue that is site related on that one. I am able to download evrything, but I know that most users are not able to. We are looking into it...

Posted by: Slacker

You have to be logged in to DL but since you posted I guess you already were logged in...

Posted by: rmshumway

I'm not able to download the files either.

But, can you point me to instructions on how to build my own CAB files?

thx

Posted by: hatchjn

Does anyone have these files on their computer that they could e-mail me? That would be great.

More specifically the ones in the very first post. The .gif files.

Posted by: Raymond.Goff

I am having issues downloading files. No pop up, turned it off. Go to link but all I get is a blank page. Any ideas?

Posted by: GrYph0n

Well hopefully I have fixed the attachments in this topic, so now try to download them. Let me know if it still isn't working.
(note: I only fixed the T-Mobile_Gifs.zip and the T-Mobile_Branding.zip. If you need screen changer2 you can google it, it's a freeware...)

Posted by: hatchjn

It's still not working for me.

Posted by: crashtestdummy

Is anyone else able to download the attachments? I have no issues...

Posted by: hatchjn

Ok, I'll get specific with the problems that I am having:

I use Mozilla Firefox web browser and when I click on the link that says "Download" I get an error message that says this:

C:DOCUMENTS......em5som83.zip could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator.

When I try it in IE it just brings up a blank page at this address: http://www.mpx200.org/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=download&id=294

When I try and right click and go to "save as" with either browser it doesn't work either.

I understand if you don't want to mess with this any more when it seems like I'm the only one who it's not working on. Could you please send them to me via e-mail?

Posted by: Slacker

This is NOT my work. I am reposting the cab file here that was originally created and posted by outthere. If I am violating forum rules please schwack my post.

If you aren't logged in you will not see the attachment.

Posted by: Raymond.Goff

I have the same issue as above. No clue why, never happened before on any other forum. I tried from multiple machines. Any chance there is a wierd port issue?

Posted by: Sean

We are working on this but I am baffled so far...

Posted by: Raymond.Goff

I downloaded :opera: for a browser vs explorer, and it works. Must be some weird setting in MS Explorer

Posted by: GrYph0n

This is blowing my mind, I am able to d/l the attachments.
A test conducted...
I have attempted from two different computers using IE on each, and Netscape on one, also even set up a user level account to test d/l again, and at all times I have been able to get the files. I am not convinced that it is user error though because more than three people have approached me with this issue. Rest assured that we will continue to work on it until we determine that it has been resolved...

I echo everyone else...excellent job! Looks awesome!

Thanks, Eric, that's very cool.

Posted by: tedya

The reg edit program won't install on my mpx. What am I doing wrong? The install/remove programs window comes up but doesn't list anything to instal.

Posted by: hmss007

I really like the rebranding; I did it manually with the Splash T-Mobile screen and the T-Brick. I did make a couple tweaks to the brick (shows up when dialing, etc.) using the T-Mobile graphic from their web site. Thought y'all might like it as an alternative.

One thing that would be really cool would be the animated T-Moblie startup screen (like on the Motorola V300). If someone can track that down - I'm assuming it's an animated GIF file - that would be really cool.

Anyway, enjoy.

I guess I'm a little late to the party here, but has cab download issue been figured out? I'm tired of seeing AT&T and would love to rebrand.

Mike

Posted by: GrYph0n

Yes the attachment issue has been resolved. Just download the ones that you prefer and follow the directions, and you should be all set...

Posted by: Shek

Still can't download. Don't know why, and I know I'm logged in.

Posted by: krmtdfrg

I used the T-Mobile_Branding.zip file and it worked great! Everything is as stated. Thanks for the great help.

Posted by: jakeb0521

hey! your cab file is great. thanks for that. do you have a cab file that can do other stuff for my mpx200 for use on the t-mobile network? i want to assign the 1 key to access my voice mail. do you have anything that can do that? you are a genius at this stuff. I just know how to follow the directions you gave and turn the phone on and off. so it's cool when smart people can do cool things on my phone. thanks.

goto Start(programs)>Settings>Telephony>Call Options and make sure that your voicemail number is set to

+1 (805) 637-7243, and you should be all set once you do that. 1 is default to dial your voicemail number, only way to change that is to edit the registry, so you should be all set once you put the number in the right place...

Posted by: Slacker

Outhere, how did you make the cab file? Are there some instructions on the web for making them?

Posted by: McHale

I repeat Slacker's question...

I used the cab file and it worked good for the start-up screen and for the bar when i make a call but if I hit the green phone button to dial a recent number the at&t bar that was there is now replaced and is scrambled up. Is anyone else experiencing this?

That happened to me as well, but I corrected it by using the reg editing wink.gif Then I scrapped it all together and did it via the registry, just to make sure that everything is up to date across the boards. Keep in mind that the cab file was designed for the MPx200 running WM2002, I think it is amazing that it works as well as it does on 2003SE phones. Hope this helps clear things up a little...

Is it normal that it may take a couple of sec. more for the homescreen to come out compare when it was branded with AT&T one. This is the SMT5600.

Thanks

It shouldnt' take anylonger at all. You are just simply replacing the mMode screen with the T-Mobile one, so in theory it shouldn't affect the bootup time at all...
