Mine came with the needed cables. Although I didn't order from Mobileplanet. You are correct in assuming that the Qtek8500, iMate Smartflip, Dopod s300, and Cingular 3125 are the same phone, however the Cingular 3125 is much better than the others due to double the ROM, and the extended battery (which is why it doesn't perfectly line up in the cradle).

Hi Gryphon...do you have an original Cingular 3125? Is it working with the cradle you bought? The one I received from mobileplanet.com did not work with my Cingular 3125 because according to the customer rep, Cingular changed it ever so slightly so that you must purchase the accessory from a Cingular store. Thanks for any info!

Cool, thanks!

For sure the data settings in the cab works. I've got a 3125 unlocked and being used on T-mo as we 'speak'. I have a T-Mo MDA, and looked but can't find the first splash screen with all the gray boxes and the T-Mo logo on it. That's the only splash T-Mo specific on my MDA, the other is a Windows Mobile image.

I do have the T-mo Jingle and homescreen wallpaper if you can use them.

I ordered one from mobileplanet.com (eXpansys USA presence) and I received it and it didn't work. They had actually sent me the cradle for a Dopod S300. Isn't the Dopod the same as the Qtek 8500 which is the same as the Cingular 3125 which is the same as the i-mate smartflip? Is there a subtle enough difference that the cradle wouldn't work. The one I ordered looked exactly like the one from DayDeal (side note: the website says a power adapter is included, but one poster said he/she didn't receive one). My phone charges with a regular travel charger and car charger so it's not my phone. Well I contacted mobileplanet and hopefully they'll straighten things out.

Just got a Cingular 3125 and I'm in the process of getting it unlocked and I plan to use it on Tmobile. Anyone develop a cab for it yet with Tmobile splash screen, opening tones, etc.? It's been done on another phone...would those files/process work with this phone as well?

I had the same situation. I got a different voice plan that saved me money and am paying for the $30/mo Total Internet plan. I was told repeatedly by many techs that T-Zones does not work on the SDA.

I have read, on this forum and on modaco, that it's possible to manually set it up, but I'm fine with TI, mostly because of the open ports it offers.

I have T-mobile prepaid and I can get the basic t-zone homepage (just to check my minutes) but no web-browsing of any sort due to the limitations of prepaid. I had to delete the GPRS settings to force the phone to use the T-zones settings.

Anyone know of a third party company that makes a charging/syncing desktop cradle for the T-Mobile SDA? I bought one off of eBay from Bargaincell.com and in the description it says that it will charge the phone without a PC or laptop. It syncs with a PC fine. It charges the phone via the USB cable connected to a computer that is on. It'll charge the battery when taking out of the phone, but it won't charge the phone through the cradle. There is an AC adapter that I plugged in. Any ideas?

Though not in their description, this cradle has an audio jack that I guess you can connect to your stereo or set of speakers and play music through it. On the cradle, something goes into the headphone jack and puts it into headset mode. I haven't used this function yet so I don't know about the quality of music you will be hearing.

Thanks in advance.

On prepaid the *min# (the way T-Mobile does it) doesn't work. At least it didn't back when I had prepaid. You could try it now with the * at the front instead of the # and report if it still doesn't work. Very odd that they minutes haven't been subtracted though. How long has it not been reducing them? Sometimes it can get backed up for a day or two, but shouldn't be much longer than that for minutes to be taken out.

For about a month and a half. Strange, but a good kind of strange in terms of saving minutes.

Here's the situation. I was with Cingular (postpaid) and I switched over to TMobile To Go because of my usage it made sense for me to do this and take the early termination hit. Everything went smoothly and I ported my number over to TMobile. I posted earlier that I had problems getting the TMobile operator name to be on my phone (SMT5600) and it was roaming, but since the companies shared towers, I wasn't being charged for roaming.

I check my minutes and at first they were being subtracted but for the longest time it's been stuck at a certain number. I know I've used the phone and minutes should be taken off, but the amount has not decreased. I am able to get tzones also. I'm not complaining that I'm getting "free" minutes though it does expire in a couple of weeks.

So here's my theory...I'll try using my other phone (Nokia) that has the correct operator name and see if minutes are being used up. If that's the case, then my SMT5600 and some weird configuration has been shielding me from Tmobile keeping track of my usage.

Second theory, when I recharge my minutes...the funkiness will go away and everything will go back to normal.

Anyone ever have this happen. I even used a landline to call Tmobile to check my minutes and it's the same as if I used tzones or the phone to check.

By the way, #999# or #MIN# do not work for me to check my minutes. Weird?

I've always got them on ebay. For about $15 you get the SIM with around 120 minutes preloaded. Just make sure you read the whole auction carefully and get one that is old enough you can change the area code. Some of them will specifically say you can't change the number, some won't mention it at all, and some will specifically say you can change the number. If you want a local number make sure you get the one that say specifically you can change it.

So doesn't that mean I have to port my number every time I get a new SIM card if I want to keep the same number?

Thanks for the info, but why does my v551 (unlocked from Cingular) show TMobile and my SMT5600 does not? I'm testing out both phones in different areas (switching my sim card between the 2 phones) and my SMT5600 is not even picking up any Tmobile towers. It always stays on roaming with Cingular. Dialing 611 will get me Tmobile. I know I don't pay extra (unless TMobile Pay as You Go is different), but it's just a little annoyance I'd like not to see.

QUOTE (smeg36 @ Jan 25 2006, 07:40 AM)
Another note, even if you are on a Cingular tower you won't get charged anything extra.  It will work just like a T-Mobile tower if they have a roaming agreement.  The only harm is it saying Cingular instead of T-Mobile on your phone.

I've searched the forum and from what I can ascertain, if I have an unlocked (formerly ATT) SMT 5600 and I use a TMobile sim, the name of the operator will be (in my case) Cingular. I just switched to TMobile from Cingular. To change this, I need to hack the registry.

I used my TMobile SIM card with a Nokia 6010 and a Motorola v551 and the operator name shows Tmobile with no roaming, but when I insert the SIM into the SMT 5600 it shows Cingular with roaming (pyramid symbol). I also used my wife's Tmobile sim and Cingular appears also. Is this quirk only with the SMT 5600 or should it be doing this on all my phones? Will it ever switch over to tmobile in areas with tmobile attennaes?

Funny thing is when I used my wife's sim card a few months back, I swore the home screen showed a tmobile operator name. Any feedback?

I've missed too many calls and too many calls have been dropped and I haven't been able to make calls when I needed to the most.

Great phone especially the PDA functions, but service right now in SF Bay Area is awful especially in the two areas I need it the most...home and work. The areas where it is the strongest are the areas I don't spend a lot of time in.

I've decided to go back to TDMA service. I'm sticking with ATT because eventually they'll build out the GSM system in a year or two. Funny, I was with Cellular One before ATT bought them out and TDMA service sucked in the beginning too but within one or two years, it had the best coverage and signal strength (except for GTE, my first carrier..) and customer service.

I don't check email. I don't surf the web on my phone. I just need a reliable voice phone and I think TDMA is the way to go. It was nice to have the PDA function and the syncing with Outlook, but I guess it's back to carrying my Palm.

Well look for my ad in the classified section for my mpx200 and T720. Email me if you are interested: dwong@icnetco.com

(I'll check this site still because I want to know when the GSM service gets up to speed)

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and just today (4/14) I noticed that instead of AT&T Wireless, my phone now says Cingular Wireless. I have an MPX200 and before I had lousy signal reception. Now, I have signal where I used to have none before I went to GSM. Total reverse of fortune and I was about to give up. I thought I heard news that ATT or Cingular or whoever just upgraded their network. Is this the cause of better reception? Hopefully this will last.

By the way, I already sent my phone in through Warranty Exchange and I received a refurb with the newest ROM, but not 2003 Smartphone software.

Last note, a triangle appears on the internal and external displays every now and then...what is this? Uh oh...spoke too soon...I just checked my phone and it reverted back to ATT?!? No triangle?!? Does the triangle mean roaming? Just checked it again...back to Cingular and a triangle. Any explanation for this weird occurrence? Is it because I'm in a weak ATT area that its jumping to a stronger Cingular signal?

I would sporadically have this problem and it would correct itself or if I removed the battery and re-seated the SIM card, it would be fine. One day, it was really bad and no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of the error message and so I contacted Warranty Exchange, grudgingly paid the $25 "expedited" fee, and received my phone and I noticed something...

My first mpx200 was brand spankin' new. As I inserted the SIM card, I noticed it would not lay flat. It would be held down on the bottom with the silver clip, but the top part would be "popping" out. I thought the design would be that the battery would hold it against the contacts when inserted. I never thought much of this until I received my refurb unit. My refurb unit had "tabs" on the top which held the top portion down and the silver clip held the bottom portion down. I checked my original phone and what did I see, no tabs and it looked like they were broken off. I'm pretty sure I didn't break them off when I inserted my SIM for the first time. I would have definitely have noticed. Anyways, I don't know if I did it or not, but that I think was the cause of my SIM failures. Besides that, my phone was working perfectly (minus crappy signal strength).

Anyone else with a similar experience?

I contacted Warranty Exchange...not as bad as customer service wait. I'd say it was about three minutes. Anyways, my phone was starting to act up with the SIM failure problem. It actually cut me off in the middle of a phone call! It wasn't bad before, but now especially in a weak reception area, I couldn't get it to recognize the SIM. It works fine now, but to be on the safe side I contacted Warranty Exchange. First time, I got the run around and was transferred to the dreaded Customer Service and I hung up. Second time, things worked out except for the $25 "expedited" service. Pushed really hard, but couldn't get the CSR to bite. How did the ealier post get it for $5? or was it missing a 2 in front of the 5?

Fry's is somewhat inconvenient for me to get to especially with having a newborn and a wife that insists I stay home (and I should). Is there anywhere online that I can get this case?

Point taken, Kevin. I know using the threat of "losing our business" would be futile against such a large corporation and a relatively small contingency of people. That was not my intent (to threaten), but rather to let AT&T know that there is a small contingency of people unhappy and to bring it to their attention. Good companies with good customer service would at least acknowledge the unhappy clients. Great companies with great customer service would go out of their way to make the client happy. I personally have logged in concerns to AT&T via their website and forums, but have others?

I agree with your reply that a united front might not get us compensation and I wouldn't expect someone to make it a labor intensive project to consume what precious time everyone has. Just throwing it out there to see if the MPx200 community had a resource we could take advantage of.

In the meantime, my phone is a great portable electronic billboard for "No Service".

I don't know where this belonged, either here or the forum on AT&T...oh well, it goes here.

I got my MPx200 in December. Before that I migrated from TDMA to GSM because of the cooler phones, but service sucked with GSM. I was with AT&T as they built their TDMA network and up to before my move to GSM, I was very, very happy with coverage. That took about five years. I could be in the hills camping and I would get a signal (I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I would take my class of students camping up to the north in the San Rafael area every year).

It will only be a matter of time before the GSM network gets as good as TDMA, but with technology moving a lot faster now, some other network other than GSM will be the future. In the meantime...

What about now? I've read so many things...flash the firmware (no way, don't want to void warranty), MPx200 does support 850 or 900 band, hard resets might do the trick, MPx220 will fix everything, new OS 2004 coming, caller ID fix coming, etc. I've done my homework, but it seems like nobody has a definitive answer. The only guy I half believe is the engineer guy on the other forum (pocketpassion or something like that). Seems like he is legit, but a lot of conflicting information still out there that sound convincing.

Bottom line, I would like to get the MPx220 especially if it's going to be a quad band phone or software upgrade that'll unlock that magical band that'll get me decent coverage. AT&T sold us a lemon and they should compensate us for being guinea pigs.

There are a lot of people here that seem to be more knowledgeable than me and to have much more clout and contact with AT&T than I do. Can we get a petition going somehow or let the AT&T management know that we'd like to work this out somehow?

The phone is great, it's just the network that it's on that needs some work. The more united we are, maybe we can make a difference. I'm not the one to start revolutions, but I see all the angry posts and complaints and single voices and maybe someone can take this and run with it. Nothing labor intensive, just a showing of numbers to AT&T.

I know ATT has us trapped in two year contracts or may not even care since they are being sold to someone else, but I genuinely feel I got a lemon and all of us in this boat should try to do something about it.

My two cents.
