I just bought the Blackjack with cingular. Now i signed up for the unltd Data plan, but they gave me the PDA connect plan for 39.99 a month. Is this the correct one? the reason i ask because i had the cingular 3125 with unltd smartphone plan for 19.99. Isnt the Blackjack a smartphone also.... Is there a difference between the Smartphone connect vs. PDA data plan other than price? thanks

Is it for sure positive that you can't get 3G on the $19.99 Smartphone plan? I haven't really looked into it, and would be interested to know for sure if the 3G plans cost more than the EDGE plans.

The 3G network is expanding fast and you'll want it as soon as it's available.

I just got the Blackjack with a $19.99 data plan. With the new Cingular plans the only difference between the $19.99 and $39.99 plans are the number of sms messages included per month. 'Both plans have unlimited 3g and Edge data.

When I bought my blackjack last week, I was told that the $20 unlimited smartphone package would not work with this phone (at all) and that in order to get the 3G download speeds (not the network) that I would NEED the $39.99 data package (which seems excessive to get email and occasionally check sports scores).
I would love it if the truth of the matter is that you can get unlimited data (email & internet) and the top speeds for $19.99.

QUOTE (The Undude @ Dec 7 2006, 03:08 AM) I'm paying 20 buck. Works great. I am sick and tired of people who work at cingular stores who lie and upsell so that we are paying tons of extra money for no reason at all. If I pick up another one it is good to know that I can insist on the $20 unlimited smartphone plan! Thanks for the info undude!

Thanks for the info undude! I doubt people are lying n purpose - it's a new device and there wil be some confusion about it. Afterall, smartphones with QWERTY keyboards look a lot like PDAs with QWERTY keyboards. Just ask your local rep to check and he may discover that he's been looking in the wrong place. Looking here, maybe my rep was confused and gave me a price I shouldn't really have?

I'm paying the $40 unltd plan and I have 3G service in and out in my area. I love it and have a 2nd computer at home running Orb so I stream tv/movies to the phone all the time when I have decent service. I have a question about the plans though. Apparently there was the unltd data plan for $40 and then I think there was also a mediamax plan for $45 I think it was...what is the difference? The only thing I could discern was that the mediamax plan came with some sort of extra email service which seems completely useless since you can already access gmail, pop, etc.

Part of the reason that they try to make us pay more for media connection is sales as well. Well, thats my own opinion. When I was with my GF at the Cingular store to get the phone, the sales person asked if I already had internet service with my cell phone and I said yeah sure. Then he tried to sell me the PDA connect service stating that its faster speed. I told him that i highly doubt it and that i will take my chances. I still don't doubt that decision.

Any of you know if OZ AIM counts as text or data? I just called to get the smartphone planned, and asked about how much data i've used in the past few days and they said 6mb and 260 messages. I haven't texted once, so I don't k now what the ^*&& is up with that.

When I called to get the Smartphone data plan, the guy said "oh, that doesn't work for your phone" and then I replied "well, a bunch of people on forums are doing it just fine" and he switched around "Oh, what I mean is that you'll be on a different tunnel, and might not get as fast speeds as you would with the $45 plan".
I'm taking my chances.

Hey there guys, I just figured that I updated here. As I went to the store to return the Blackjack, the guy was telling how I had the "wrong" data plan for the the Blackjack. I told him that its ok, I leave it as it is. But then he told me that some auditor will see my account eventually and see that I have the wrong data plan, deactivate, and charge me per kilobyte. He said that since it's a PDA phone by Cingular standards, that it has to be on the PDA Connect package. I got into an arguement with him that the Blackjack is NOT a PDA Phone, that its a Smartphone. He totally agreed but according to Cingular, its a PDA phone. I asked him then what makes it a PDA phone, he said the QWERTY keyboard. I said BullShit. A PDA has a touch screen, a bigger screen, able to edit MS Office. A smartphone has and does none of that. He then popped up his email on the computer and showed me the company header/handout/notice that Cingular emails to its reps. And there it was, in bold black-and-white. To sum it up, pretty much a Windows phone with a QWERTY keyboard is to be classified as a PDA phone and it is mandatory that it is under the "PDA Connect" service. I was stunned. He said that would save money if I went to the PDA connect service in the long run. I said fine and that I would hold him to it if it didn't.
So, I ended up with a PDA Connect plan for $40. I'll let you know if I hit more *&^%. Maybe I could go back and see if he can give me a copy of it so I can post it on here. But I kid you not, I saw it with my own eyes. Heck, I am trying to help y'all save money too.

I think the way it would save him money in the long run is if this supposed auditor removed the $19.99 unlimited data plan because it isn't supposed to be compatible, and put him on a pay per kb plan. Then he could get a $1000 charge and wouldn't know about it until the bill came. That's just a load of crap though. First off, if they did remove that feature and switch it to a pay per kb plan, they should notify you of changes to your plan. I really don't see how the inclusion of a QWERTY keyboard makes the Blackjack any different than the 3125 though. Same OS, software capability, etc. That's a pretty lame excuse for Cingular to charge you guys more money for the same service.
