This is a great forum...

I've had a Voq Professional for a little over a year now, and I really think that, for the price, it can't be beat.

However, just recently the screen backlight starting going out sporadically... eventually it went out completely and has never come back on. The number pad lights will come on but no screen. It's really, really hard to read stuff (esp. low contrast) without this, so I'm just limping by for now.

I'd like to know if anyone has successfully hacked or repaired this problem. I don't have money to buy a new one right now, and I rely on this phone for a lot of critical things, so if I have to spring for a new one , I will. But, in the interest of frugality, I would like to repair this one if possible, because the phone is perfectly fine otherwise.

Thanks!

Voq's are going as low as $22 on Ebay. It may be hard to fix it for that amount. I have a Voq for spare parts, you may want to replace yours with an Ebay unit and use yours for parts in the future. Sorry this does not go with your frugal intention. However, the LCD is probably the priciest single part of the phone and if the backlight is out the screen is pretty much dead for practical use. I have not heard of a backlight replacement.

On the other hand maybe a wire is loose in there. The phone comes a part pretty easy with a torx driver.

$22 ??!

Well, heck yes then. I guess I only checked Froogle, where the prices were the same as a year ago when I bought mine - nothing under $120. I agree that for that price there's no point in messing with it.

I'll have to check out eBay then. Thanks for the reply.
