The "Windows Mobile" splash is something you can't change on the Black Jack. You will need a ROM Flashing software for that. It just hasn't been created yet.

Bump To Top!

Figure I bump this topic being that there are some new users and there is an update that has the ATT branding.

Somewhere there is a tweak to make phone faster but I can't seem to find it. The other option is to make it a habit to kill the processes in the task manager. You do know that press+hold on the "HOME" button will shortcut you to the built task manager. There you can see the processes and stop them.

You kill the sounds and change the image on startup and shutdown when you follow my Splash Tweaks.

The BlackJack is freakin' cool.

This above link seems to have answered my question.

Seems there is a few work around's posted on the Internet, all involve re-adding the intshrui.exe program

However i would still like to know if this official release does or does not include intshrui.exe.

Yes and no. Cingular attempted to cripple that feature. But not entirely. It still under the Windows folder. You just create a shortcut to it and place the shortcut in the Start Menu folder. I use it as well, it works pretty well.

You could also just stop by a Vodafone dealer and get them to make the changes or call customer support.

OFFICIAL UPDATE

Well, as promised, I am making my official review of the update.

SIDE NOTE: Some of may have noticed that I have been MIA (if y'all cared) and my only excuse is that school is whooping my butt and my BJ has been flawless. However, I don't tweak like I used to. In fact, I haven't really used the BJ to its full potential. It has been used mainly for emails, internet, texting, and basic calling.

Review:
As far as bluetooth, I haven't really noticed any SIGNIFICANT improvement except for the fact that the audio through the head set seems to sound clearer and my callers noticed I am a bit clearer. IE speed is roughly the same on 3G. The text is clearer in my opinion both on the phone and IE. The TeleNav ain't all that bad. It really only gives you step by step directions, just a tad better than the Live Search program. For an extra $10 ($9.99 if you really want to get anal) a month you can use it to its full potential as a GPS navigator. I am contemplating that. The basic homescreens are a great improvement. Texting has some slight changes. For example, instead of clicking the Left Soft Key to reply to a message, you now have to click the Right Soft Key to navigate thru the menu in order to click "Reply". In its old place is now the "delete" option. Icons are cooler. Email through POP3 does seem a bit faster. Battery seems pretty good. I am using the original thin batteries, from 06:00 through 20:00 and it has barely down to three bars. The small OFFICE Package is actually beneficial to me now since I am student. I can edit notes on the fly.

Overall, I like the update. Seems stable, replaces my need to get the BJ-II. If YOU really want to do something different to your BJ, I don't see a problem with this update.

NOW FOR SOME TWEAKS!

So you got that cool ringtone that you love. You know, the one that sings "My milkshake brings all the boys the yard..." You select the song to be used as a ringtone, but the phone won't let you because its OVER 300k.

SOLUTION: With a registry editor go to:

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds
Switch to "Values" view-->Look for "FileSizeLimit"-->Edit "Value Data" to 429467295-->Save-->Soft Reset

The large number is the maximum file size limit. Search for my Splash Screen edit tip to get rid of the ATT splash at startup and shutdown.

Enjoy!

I am downloading it right now. Hopefully I get a better review out of it. If now, oh well...

Does the update make the BJ similar to the BJII or will it still be two completely different phones?

Man, GREAT NEWS! Has anybody actually tried it out yet? I have been debating about switching for the Pantech DUO, but maybe this upgrade will revive my need for the BlackJack.

I am still trying to decide if I want to wait 'til Christmas to get the GSM model. I just can't see myself with Sprint.

Or it will probably be just another plain Black Jack with the only difference being the WM6. You never know, these american carriers like to cripple phones.

one thing i forgot to mention. If you didn't feel a click when "properly" inserting the memory card, then it didn't seat all the the way in. If you did feel/hear a click, then push it in further until you hear it again and that will be the locking mechanism unlocking the card. Once you feel that, let off the finger and the memory card should pop half way out.

I just put my mini sd in. it would not go one way but went the other. Now I cant get it out. I thought all I had to do is push it a second time & it would click & pop out. NO it doesn't. WHY?

With the screen/keyboard of the Blackjack facing you, did you insert the memory with the metal strips facing you?

If you didn't, you might want to find a very fine tweezer and gently take it out. If you can't take out with gentle touch, then a service tech will be needed. BlackJacks are pretty tough, but not that tough. Should've read the manual if you were having trouble the first time.

WAIT! Did you read the last line?

Maintenance Releases to Windows Mobile 6 for existing devices:

BlackJack - Target TA 10/1

8525 - Target TA 10/26

Treo 750 - Target TA mid-Dec.

New Device Launches

Voice First/Email Triage Segment (Windows Mobile Standard Edition aka Smartphone OS):

Dual Slider - Target TA 9/28 ; Target Availability 10/15

Value Priced Messaging Segment (Windows Mobile Standard Edition aka Smartphone OS):

Low Cost EDGE device - Target TA 10/12 ; Target Availability 11/5 (reminder this device launches as WM5 and will be upgradeable to WM6 at a later date that is TBD)

Motorola Q - Target TA 9/21 ; Target Availability 10/8

Does this mean that there is an actual sequel to the BlackJack? I might actually hang around to see that.

It looks like the Sept. 17th date was not legitimate, or at there are further delays... the newest rumored date is Oct. 1. We have another 'reliable' source, again, for this information:

http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/m...ing&page=11

...and still we wait.

Man, I had a feeling it was nothing more than a tease. Oh well.

By the end of the year, if there is no significant change to the Blackjack, I am thinking about getting a HTC S710 as a birthday present to myself.

Don't get offend by this dumb question, but I just gotta ask:

Did you make sure that the adjusted volume is raised up?

Did you check the profile settings to make sure that they're not set to "none"?

If both of these don't seem to be the solution. Do a Hard Reset. AND, if that doesn't work, then you got screwed on eBay.

Not that I know of. If it did then Google Maps should have been able to detect it.

If you really want a program that will at least give you directions, download Windows Live Search for smartphones. It can look up traffic reports, businesses, and display directions.

Bluetooth on the leaked WM6 rom was a total PoS. I didn't care since I only rarely need BT. If the news is correct that the official WM6 has fixed all the problems, you should definitely give it a shot. HTML email in itself was more than enough reason for me to snap up the leaked version. Mobile excel and word have also come in handy, at least for viewing documents. At any rate, I'll let yall know how the new rom works out for me when I get it.

Four more days til September 17th. I am strapping my BJ to the desk getting ready.

I was having some minor issue with the bluetooth on the BlackJack that I had to return it through warranty and get a replacement. i am comfortable with the WM5 for now until i hear better reviews.

I was checking it out and wishing it had all the features it doesn't have now. Such as expanding memory, removable battery, an actual keyboard, and in the color black.

Then I started have chest pain when I saw the price. My Blackjack brand new was nowhere near that price of (i believe) $500 or $600.

I could not get it to work. The installer does not reconize the phone.

Are you sure that the phone is off and the modem driver is installed when you first start. You then start the updater program, connect the phone, press the power+right soft key+right side buttons at the same time. Then it should be dandy from there.

So far the update is working out for me. the only problem is that my Keylock program isn't working so well. I am still testing it.

Hey man, you be careful out there. And if you see my uncle, Gunnery Sgt. Edgar Vargas, tell him his nephew wants another game of 8-ball.

My prayers are with you and all the other soldiers over there. A good portion of my high school classmates are over there somewhere as well.

I am not surprised that Cingular would have anything to do with this. Maybe At&T will change this?

Okay, this has been bugging for a while now. I can't use my Blackjack as a modem when paired with my Dell Axim over bluetooth. it used to do it with the MPx220 and the Cingulat 2125.

any ideas or suggestions? the reason I want to do this is because i like to use the Dells much bigger screen.
